Why can't you question integrity?

Refs make more than 40K if they ref in the top level. I think it varies between 100K to 250K. Which, considering what the players and managers make, and the intense scrutiny and pressure referees are always under, is peanuts.
The pressure is brought on themselves or via the PGMOL.

Crazy to think that an employee looks after themselves / shafts you every week.

Ah…actually, sounds like 90% of places I’ve worked at.

Probably been mentioned, but it is corrupt Mark Halsey confirmed it, and Mike Deane admitted to doing it.

Deane stated he didn't send Anthony Taylor to the screen when Cucurella had his hair pulled (violent conduct and a red) because Taylor had a rough game and it would embarrass him.....that corruption..

Halsey stated that the PGMOL told him how many cards to give, what to say after games if he "missed incidents" so they could retro ban etc.

Man City have taken a ref on holiday...

The fact Collymore and other are blind to the fact that in every walk of life there will be corrupt people is mind boggling.
I think what we tend to forget is that Collymore, Neville etc are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. People really should not give their opinions the time of day.

Not always true. To say that every time fans boo or spew venom etc at a referee is justified is nonsense. When I started refereeing I quickly realized I was a conduit to receive abuse which was sometimes justified, sometimes not justified at all. I accept there is a certain level of abuse involved in doing what I do. About 40 or 50 percent of first year referees stop doing it because of this. I am on 25 years now. By and large I get minimal abuse because of how I approach coaches and players, and that I understand the game reasonably well (ie I don't mkae a lot of strange decisions). Believe me, some of the referees around here would leave you scratching your head every five minutes. The pay is ok and I stay fit and active, and I stay actively in touch with the game I love. I can't play any longer (my knee might blow up if I take a bad tackle) but, in retrospect, I probably would have rather gotten into coaching, to be honest. Local coaches are actually paid ok money now if they are good (or can offer the illusion that they are good by crossing their arms and looking thoughtful etc). A few local guys make over 6 figures coaching amateur football, and that is pretty good for such a low pressure gig (aside from having their players they have developed poached by other clubs etc). Anyhow, referees have a fairly thankless job and in opinion should be paid far more to ref in the Premier league. The game doesn't work without the referees, plain and simple.

Halsey claimed a few years back that the tweet where he talked about PGMOL corruption wasn't posted by him.

Great point.

However, you go home and sound proud of what you have achieved, without the assistance of VAR and without the influence of PGMOL.

The EPL referees / VAR have VAR to assist them.

Not quite apples and oranges, but definitely oranges and satsumas.

I wouldn't say proud. Content when things go well. I am comfortable with that.

When VAR was implemented I opined that it would ruin referees and ARs. MLS was one of the first leagues to utilize it and I watched my friend (a FIFA ref) and his decision making begin to crumble because VAR became his crutch.

In a time when the great institution of the Post Office is being revealed to be a disgraceful hornet's net of corruption, why is it so outlandish to even suggest that the billion pound football industry might not be whiter than white?
When Nuno asked why it was OK to suggest that corruption was possible in those sneaky foreign countries, but not in dear 'Old Blighty,' he hit the nail on the head as to why so many people, get away with so much here.
This country is corrupt as feck from top to bottom, but where money is involved it reaches new levels.

I don't even think the first tweet was as bad as some made out, merely pointing out that it wouldn't be a good look if something untoward occurred, (It did.)

The hypocrisy of Neville at al is astounding but not surprising.

In short, there’s alot of pussies other there who love to “both sides” an argument. Be serious for once and pick a side.

Can’t stand anyone in the bottom half of this league not on our side on this, bootlicking arsemunchers.

what would you say is the worst mistake you can make as a referee...probably a penalty .
obviously var is meant to help referees. when its difficult to assess the situation....ive got nothing against it in. principle, although. in cases of handball its not much use...but the handball rule now is a real mess.
just wondering how the referee in the Everton match really felt about his colleagues...he looked a real idiot as. it was accepted he got 3 penalties wrong...any rivalry there...of course not...perish the thought
