Where will the most loved club in Britain finish in spring 2021?

I'll go against the current and the all-encompassing gloom here and say "playoffs", regardless of who the manager will be.

You tried the overachieving pattern and it ended badly. So this season you'll play the underdog card. Everyone will assume that you are relegation material, until you imperceptibly start to climb the table, and to everyone's surprise find yourselves in the playoffs, with promotion momentum.

12th.

Suspended season due to lockdown. Points per game final positions. 6th by 1 point.

Should the correct answer not be - again - „all over your mum‘s face“?

A dire start, as witnessed already, steadying around November and, to buck recent trends, a strong finish without losing after xmas break to see us climb up to the edge of the playoffs.
Everyone feeling happy and pleased with the slow but eventual progress. LM voted manager of the season.

No idea. I was hoping for somewhere near the playoffs but we look so shit it's hard to see it. The defence should improve, but the attack has looked utterly toothless so far and tbh last season too.

If Sabri pulls his head out his arse or gets replaced we may have a chance. We'd have even more of a chance if we signed a decent wide man.

I dunno, optimist in me says 6th, realist 10-16th with a surge that falls well short.

After a poor start, things start to improve around game 10, and we get some momentum together which sees only 1 defeat for the rest of the calendar year, and us creep up the table to flirt with the playoffs.

Having learned lessons from last Jan, we signed several key additions, and go on our biggest ever winning Championship streak to finish 2nd.

Well that's roughly what happened in Clark's first season, so here's hoping.

I'll be gobsmacked if we even make it to Christmas, before the League is suspended due to the next wave of C-19.

Championship football will pale into insignificance if it hits us hard.

We deserve no more than mid season mediocrity with the signings we have made so far.

Quantity doesn't equal quality.

If Sabri stays I can't see anything other than relegation.

With a decent manager, top 6 is more than possible.

But as other have said, the season will probably be cut short in winter.

It should be top 6. Nobody is gonna look at a team with the players we have and think "they're underdogs" especially if we add someone like Grosicki as well.

Between Christie, Worrall, Dawson, Blackett, Colback, Arter, Freeman, Grosicki, Ameobi, Lolley and Grabban there must be well over 1000 Championship appearances, probably closer to 2000. Fair enough appearances doesn't necessarily mean they're any good but the majority also have Championship promotion on their CV.

I put up a comparison of how many players a bunch of promoted teams added the season they went up and most added double figures, not the "4 or 5 quality additions" that people seems to think is the gold standard. So I don't believe we've added too many, especially given there's at least 6 or 7 quality additions in there anyway. A lot of supporters said we had a weak/midtable squad last season and it seems Sabri felt the same, these additions are what he wanted, he's come out and said it multiple times over the last few weeks.

I will accept with the amount of additions made that they need time to get used to playing with each other and to find a settled best XI. However, they also need to know what exactly the tactic is that they're meant to be playing because so far it's not really been evident what Sabri is trying or what it's eventually supposed to evolve into. There were a couple of very noticeable baffled faces at certain points in the game last Friday night.

Great post Hef.

Gotta say though, it does make me wonder why these threads are started before deadline day. We could still lose the likes of Worral, Silva & Grabban yet.

We could, I posted that expecting Silva to go anyway. If Grabban goes without replacement I'll change my expectations. Worrall I'm not sure, I think this injury (if that is true) could be a blessing for him, looked like he needed a bit more time off. I would say he's way easier replaced than Grabban is.

It's mental that we have lost 3 league games in a row without scoring a goal.

McClaren-like.

This squad should be top 10 and that's where I would expect them to be.

More signings? are you mental?

If Forest are thinking of making more signings this season, they’d better crack on with the rebuild of the Peter Taylor Stand because they’re going to need a bigger changing room.

Hopefully the league will be cancelled before Christmas.

But you wouldn't want us to be in the relegation positions at that stage.

Not even McCleary can beat Covid.
