We're very strong at our core!

To cut apart the sea of negativity and downbeatitude here, I just wanted to say that when fully fit our options through the middle of the pitch are as good as I can remember for some time now.

Hamer, DDV and Evtimov is a strong selection of goalies, my Fosse mate raves about Hamer in particular.

Hobbs, Mancienne, Mills and Wilson are an excellent top 4 and with Riera behind them we've got real strength in depth.

Lansbury, Osborn, Tesche, Vaughan, Reid, Cohen and Grant are a solid bunch, fitness being a big question mark with half though.

Assombalonga, Fryatt, Walker and Blackstock is a solid set too, although they probably need an extra body until February when Britt ought to be back and firing.

Shame about left back though....

Cohen at left back. Antonio left wing and Lichaj and Burke on the right are good too. I don't get why everyone is so down. This squad can get promoted.

if we can sign up this Pinillos lad and Maynard and ship out McLaughlin i think that would be a pretty decent squad, signing Taylor and shipping out someone else too would be a bonus

Maybe Williams on loan too and we would have a tidy squad. Dougie's doing a decent job under the circumstances.

Not sure about that. If we stay fully fit all season maybe, but I'd settle for a play-off battle right now.

Wont be falling into the trap of assuming a good list of names means anything.

Its how Freedman brings them together that counts. If the Swansea game is any marker, then we'll hold our own next season. However until we can start to get a real foothold in central midfield & carve out some chances for Maynard we aint gonna trouble the top six.

I am very optimistic for the coming season if we can ship out Abdoun,Radi and a couple of others and replace with Williams,Maynard and the Spanish lad at left back.
I actually think we are stronger than last season with the dealings Duggy has managed to do up to yet

Swansea didn't get up to top speed today, but to a man they're pretty well organised so we can't really compare Swansea to the normal Championship opposition.

One thing we really lack that would be nice is that someone with a bit of electric pace. Someone like Tyson who would chase everything down and cause all sorts of problems or someone like McCleary who would can beat players easily. It's a shame Paterson isn't a little bit quicker really.

Antonio not fast enough for you? :D

Yeah but he's knackered after 5 minutes. As we saw last season, Antonio gets double and triple marked so if we had another guy on the other side, it would free Antonio up a little bit and make us less one dimensional.

Oliver Burke could be what you are looking for. The lad has electric pace , would need to slowly introduce him into the team this upcoming season. With pacy players . they always suffer hamstring injuries like Tyson did.

According to many posters on this forum we have had a very strong (top two) squad for several years now despite overwhelming evidence (like the league tables) that we are actually a mid table squad.

I hope, in Freedman, that we have a manager who can somehow make the collective be worth more than the sum of the parts.

If we manage to sign Taylor and Maynard, we will have quite a lot of pace, plus lots of nippy players. Assombalonga, Antonio, Oliver Burke and Maynard are all pacy, while Osborn, Chris Burke, Taylor, Paterson and Ward are all nippy, with a low centre of gravity, and quick on the turn. Tesche is no slouch either, or Vaughan when he is fit. That's without even considering Cohen, if he comes back (at all, or the same). Obviously we can't play them all at once, but a decent combination of those players really ought to be able to press any opposition to some effect. The only things that are missing from a theoretically good squad is a decent left back, and someone 'tough' in central midfield.

Two things....
the players have to want it badly
the fans have to get behind them

I find it unbelievable that some of our fans (especially at home), can get on the back of a player who is wearing our colours, who has been picked by the manager. Perhaps getting on his back will make him play better. I hadn't thought of that.

It's all about mid-table...

This is it, we keep spouting we are the bees knees (not everybody) but the years do not lie and trends do get set.

We overrate ourselves in many folks mindsets, we've been second best in most games I've seen for a long long time now.

If only the pitches were these forum pages - we'd be European Champions.
