Violence on the Field

Oh I suppose I will risk alienating myself a a bit more from y'all about Maddison and his girly punch to Yates. What the f***. First of all, that punch wouldn't knock over a 14 year old. Yates is a f***ing pansy. He should be thoroughly embarrassed with himself. Having said that, I do think it is a sending off offence. Maddison struck Yates with a closed fist. However lame Yates reaction is, it qualifies as VC and Maddison should have gone. VAR once again a shambles. But jesus christ, Yates is such a f***ing pussy for his reaction. Any number of bad tackles (including Moder's tackle that was only deemed a caution) are way worse than that girly punch. Anybody who supports Yates behaviour should NEVER complain about diving ever again.
Whilst I agree, in principle, Yates' behaviour is just a manifestation of what players are learning to do within the parameters of the game they find themselves playing now. Players are constantly learning that, if you don't go down and make a meal of every contact, then the ref probably isn't going to look at it, if you do, the ref is probably going to take action and either way, there will be very little action taken against a player over-reacting.
This is the 'modern football' the powers that be have created and it's an abomination.

Yates does the stuff he does to get a reaction.

Against Burnley it got him a chop to the neck from Lyle Foster, who got a red card and a 3 game ban.

Maddison's reaction was part of the 'drama' that him and Yates were involved in.

It's still a pansy punch and no violence was intended.

I've seen more violence in a creche.

Well, aren’t you Liverpool-way?

Violent crèches are par-for-the-course up there! It’s how scousers get their start in life!

I remember Paul Davis putting a crack in Glenn Cockerill's jaw with a punch. 1989, possibly?

Larry Lloyd got 'butted by a Man City player in his Liverpool days and got a red card to go with his red nose. There's a happy ending, though: Lloyd got his sending-off overturned when the authorities had a look at Match of the Day footage, becoming the first player to benefit from TV evidence in a disciplinary case.
Larry got done again at City while at Forest, he was incensed afterwards and chased Futcher down the tunnel at half time after some retribution

I found the video of Sammy getting sent off against Leeds for an off the ball incident with Mick Jones. No actual footage of the incident but I remember my dad telling me he'd hit him.

I was at that game in the Trent End and whatever happened between Chapman and Jones I didn't see it. Every single player in that Leeds side knew how to dish it out Jones, Clarke and Giles in particular loved leaving a foot in. In the press afterwards Jones said Chapman had trampled all over him. Yeah rite

This I agree with. It's just kind of sad when a player like Yates (who is a borderline hardman--do hardmen even exist any more?) does this.

Proves the point, that dirty Leeds side could dish it out but couldn't handle a taste of their own medicine.

From what I remember our old friend Colin Wanker obviously defended his man and I believe he said Hume 'ran into his elbow'.
Yeah, I remember that, an absolutely shocking bit of thuggish behaviour, and old Wanker did not come out of that well, trying to shrug it off.

It was a clear and blatant assault, and if the same move were performed in a public street, you would be looking at a serious stretch behind bars.

2018 apparently. Didn't think it was that long ago. Time flies when you're enjoying yourself

I was speaking to a Greek guy the other day who says that PAOK fans felt that he didn't do anything wrong when he stormed the pitch, and that it was the fault of the league and everyone else that 'corruption' was rife and needed sorting.

In that case, I'm waiting for Marinakis to bring a minigun on the pitch.

Hume is a pretty decent fella too. I bumped into outside Commonwealth stadium once. I think he was playing for Tranmere when that happened.

Ye: the player that Gentleman Jim lamped was going in to barge Peter Grummitt.
Jim had realised Grummitt had broken his arm, and merely took asppropriate action to prevent Grummitt being further injured.
i can't remember who it was he thumped though.

Grummitt's injury occured shortly after the start of the second part below. The Baxter incident is around 3:50. A penalty was given for Baxter blocking Greenoff getting to Grummitt, but even now it doesn't seem enough to warrant a penalty.

It was Jimmy Greenhoff. Brian came through a bit later at Man Utd, where Jimmy also played later in his career.

That very much reminded me of the Peter Cech incident which I thought ,although didn't mean to cause an injury to that extent, was always done on purpose by hunt.

I've said it before getting a dig in the solar plexus when you aren't expecting puts you on your arse 9 times out of 10. Just because it wasn't a big wild swing means nothing.
