Trevor Francis, RIP

So many memories. Munich will live with me for ever as one of the ever decreasing fans who can say 'I was there' that header seemed to take an age from leaving his head to crossing the line and hitting the roof of the net. The incredulity of us signing the million pound player, unbelievable.
Trevor the legend go gently now.
Would it be a good idea for the club to retire the No.7 shirt for this season?
I saw it from a stand-seat in the stadium at the time 'Bama, so amongst all of the celebrations it didn't occur to me, but with every replay I've seen since, I'm aways amazed that Trevor didn't cause himself some serious damage when he landed on the shot-put circle.

Two biggest memories.
First is being at the front in the Butlins TV room at Skeg when that header went in. A room with cinema seats and an oversize TV at the front where kids sat on the floor and loads of adults crammed in down the sides The room exploded when that header went in.
The second was the first game of the season in 81 sat in the Lower Exec with my mum and dad watching Trev scoring twice as we beat Southampton 2-1. He was brilliant that day but a few days later he'd gone to City, I was absolutely gutted.

RIP Trev, thanks for the memories
As you accurately describe FP, moving Trevor on after the way he returned from that lengthy injury did seem bizarre at the time. Apparently it was Peter Taylor who persuaded Cloughie to sanction the decision, and on reflection, it was probably the right one as Trev had lost some of that ultra-rapid pace which helped him to become the elite player he'd been before his achilles snapped.

Although he was still an extremely good player,Otis.
As FP states above-he was superb in the opening day victory over Southampton in 1981 and played well
in his final game for Forest 2 days later (a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford).I was gutted when he left.
I think Francis leaving spelt the end of the Clough/Taylor glory era at Forest (indeed,Taylor left by the end of the season).

Rest in peace Mr Francis. Thank you for all the wonderful memories you've given me as a Forest supporter. Not only were you a fantastic footballer but also very nice and kind person.

I've just spent an hour alone in my garden reliving all those cherished memories of you in a Nottingham Forest shirt.

Thank you Trevor, rest in peace.

Was listening to Bomber on the Garibaldi podcast today.

He mentioned TF a few times, as they were manager and asst at at Brum.

It was incredible when we signed him. The furore surrounding the £1m fee but also he had a great season leading up to that.

Was a brilliant player for us.

Immortal Legend.

We haven’t had many genuine superstars at Forest but Trev was definitely one. I remember the feeling of pride as a kid at having someone that good at the club, Such a shame about his injury and that he wasn’t with us longer. But he certainly made his mark. The way he reacted so sharply and moved so quickly around the pitch, wonderful wonderful player.

That's a nice tribute Gary.

I think that next year on this date, Forest should play Wednesday in a friendly.

It would be a great way to celebrate the impact he had at both of our clubs.

I used to love it when Atkinson brought him on in the last 20 minutes or so. He didn’t have the pace at that point obviously, but more often than not he provided the ammunition for David Hirst to pop one in the net.

I think he actually started the game when we beat Bristol City to seal promotion back to the First Division in 1991.

I'm not against John Robertson getting a stand named after him but Trevor Francis has a stand, in his native Birmingham which is far more fitting
Trevor actually came from Plymouth-although he made his name at Birmingham.
I agree that naming a stand after him in this instance is not necessarily appropriate-his name will live forever at Nottingham Forest anyway.

I'll never forget Cloughie putting him on the bench when he first signed to keep his feet on the ground. The electricity in the ground when he came off the bench to start his warm up on the touchline was unbelievable. Great player, he'll be sadly missed.

RIP Trevor, a boyhood hero.
My son and i always always share the joy in the pre-match video, of mimicking "...and there's Francis ! " in an ever increasing pitch. I saw it on TV at the time and we share that moment with a smile every home game.
Never to be forgotten.
