Tim Cahill

NFFC reportedto have Offered Tim Cahill a contract. He’s 38. Hope this isn’t the sort of level we are only going to get this window.

Putting the obvious, 'errr he's 38 will this be another Jonathan Greening moment' aside

doesn't anyone think he could do a great job for us, even if it's until the end of the season?

(If his legs and engine are still there?)

Kevin Phillips did ok till he was about 40, not a high energy player like Cahill but as an impact sub/coach I reckon Tim might have something to offer.

As has also been suggested on another thread, my initial suspicion is that this story is entirely agent-led, despite the Post predictably jumping all over it in order to fill space.

Nothing I've read since has convinced me otherwise.

Taylor confirms he was offered a contract; he expects him to go to Millwall to secure playing time, since he still hopes to make it to the Australian National Team this summer.

I wonder if you'd be as critical if he had.

Yes because signing a 38 year old who hasn't played at a decent level for 6 years doesn't raise any questions, especially in the light that the last manager was meant to have been told his targets weren't good enough for promotion.

It's all down to me being over critical

Alf, just out of interest who would you like us to sign? You've not been pleased with anyone we've been linked with this Jan.

Not overly, just selectively.

I thought you didn't believe anything the media says, anyway?

I have, Clayton.

As I've said many times, I just don't want us to operate like we did last Jan - signing, or gambling, on players who aren't suited to this league.

Someone who hasn't played at a decent level for 6 years may fall into that bracket.

Not overly, just selectively.

I'm debating the theory behind it, which is thereto be discussed regardless of whether or not it is true or false.

It's all speculative at this stage and I only made a throwaway joke about Warbs transfers.

Love his winning attitude and has reached a higher level probably than he should have done based on hard work and desire alone.

However he's 38 and it doesn't sit well with me that my team might be the one he'll use for 4 months to give him one last World Cup hurrah.

Yeah I too am of the mindset that I wouldn’t be overly thrilled if he came here. His wages will be one of the highest at the club, and at 38 I don’t think he’d suit the high pressing, physically demanding way that this Karanka team looks to be playing.

Have I missed the high pressing stuff? 😩😢

Yours is the first animated GIF avatar I've seen on here. And I like it.

If Tim Cahill rocks up here it'll be a f***ing joke.
Imagine if Fawaz had signed him even 4 years ago. Hopefully this is a complete bullshit rumour

Haha thanks! I’ve had it for years but I don’t think I’ve logged in to the forum for over two years!!

I was about to say you've been here as long as me!

You're all making assumptions that he's been offered a contract as a player, Marinade is just reserving his next manager

I doubt he’d offer much as a player other than maybe a few cameo appearances, but he is the kind of presence we could do with in the dressing room.
