Thornhil vs Brum!

When I was on my way home from the game today I was listening to BBC Radio Nottingham and they were playing some of the Forest fans phone calls from after the game!

One of the callers called Forest excellent(which we were) but he said CC was silly to keep Thornhill on and also said that Thornhill had an absolute shocking game. I dont agree with thi person i thought Thornhill had a fantastic game tracking back and getting involved up top.

What does everyone else think about this?

I really dont rate Thornhill I think he's far too lightweight.

Yet today I thought he had a decent game and got into some excellent positions. Hope it continues

At first I didn't rate him at all, he is indeed lightweight and isn't the quickest of players. But he is very intelligent and impressive on the ball. Also shown he can score albeit not as regular as he could.

Good game from the youngster, definetly should retain his place against City on Saturday.

He did a decent enough job today. He wasn't one of our better players but he didn't let us down either.

It was pretty bad that radio nott'm decided to air this type of comment whether it was Matt or any other player today. The whole team performance was strong in all departments, so to sum up it was poor comment selection by radio nott'm from a poor so called fan. By the way Matt some times reminds me of John Mc Govern in his running, and he, took some stick from time to time, however the BOSS at the thought he was quality!

I think Matt Thornhill does have good potential, this is still his first season in senior football. He is a lightweight, beef him up a bit he will be a good midfielder..He will improve a lot, He seems to control the midfield quite well.

I think the more he plays the better he will become, remember how James Perch used to be in his early days as a 1st team player, he has come on leaps and bounds since then, Calderwood is pretty astute and he sees good in players and i doubt he would let him play if he didnt see anything in him...give him time, thats all he needs.

One of our strengths is that we have a well balanced squad and we are good at bringing in fresh and enthusiastic young players through the academy and the reserves.

To get a place in the first team is a privilege to be earned and Matt has achieved this and shown already just what he has to offer in terms of maturity, skill and energy.

Although we shouldn't make allowances for his youth and lack of experience I think it's fair to give him credit for the good contribution he has already made in light that there is still better to come.

I agree with what people said. I heard the caller on the radio and totally disagree. I've been critical of Thornhill before, but today he put in a very good, all round central midfield performance.

You have these callers.

After the Cardiff game a guy rang in claiming the players had lost confidence in CC and were using their performances to get him sacked.

That says it all for me.

Thornhill had a great game as did Heath who impressed me immensely I hope he stays in the side for a more sustained period of time then when he is needed again those nerves he clearly had will decrease.

I thought he had a good game, should've done better when he'd worked so hard to get on the end of Tyson's cross though; but them's the breaks.. it would've been an awesome performance if he'd buried that!

Thornhil was outstanding. I just assumed the guy on the radio was somone who disliked Thornhill at school or something similar as no one in their right mind could have thought he played anything but well today.

I think he's not your 'stock' central midfielder, like Fletch for example, in physique, presence and the rest of it, runs a bit funny, but he has other qualities, getting in good positions to score goals, movement, passing etc. With a bit more beef he could become a good player in a few years, as he wont lose that football intelligence which is naturally inside anyway

I thought Heath had a good game too. Deserves to be played again. Sure he was nervous but who can blame him?

His foward movement is excellent and him and Cohen in particular worked really well.

Considering that we had 2 youngsters against a pretty much fully fit Birmingham City Premiership side shows the potential that we had.

Apart from the first 20 minutes, Heath did not look out of place and in the 2nd half Thornhill enabled us to begin attacking through the middle - and considering he was up against Carsley, I think he did very, very well.

Thornhill did a good job yesterday he will be a good player with more experience, Joe Heath did well also.
If we can hold and nearly beat Brum with a htreadbare squad I can see light at the end of the tunnell.
The idiot on Radio Nottingham that called Thornhill is an idiot full stop. No one in that side could be critisized yesterday
