A thread to keep tabs on where our ex-players have ended up.

2021-22 Squad
Brice Samba - RC Lens - Ligue 1 - France
Djed Spence - Back at Middlesbrough, possibly moving to Spurs.
Gaëtan Bong - Currently available, his agent is literally fielding hundreds of calls a day from clubs proactively letting him know that they don't want him
Tobias Figueiredo - Got homesick for Portugal - moved to Sporting Húll of the Portugese Champiónship
Max Lowe, Philip Zinckernagel and João Carvalho - all currently being kept on ice at Olympiakos, just in case we need to loan them back.
Rodrigo Ely - UD Almería - Segunda División - Spain
Carl Jenkinson - Currently a free agent, hoping for a contract in Australia.
Jordi Osei-Tutu - After a loan spell with Rotherham, became a free agent when his Arsenal contract expired. Has now returned to VFL Bochum of the Bundesliga where he previously had a loan spell in 2019.
Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel - After feeling unappreciated by Chris Hughton, he returned to Blackpool, where after 30 appearances and one goal, they are currently replacing the statue of Jimmy Armfield with their new club legend.
Baba Fernandes - Currently a free agent.
Jayden Richardson - After a loan spell at Notts County, he moved north of the border to Aberdeen, where he is fitting in with his new teammates by eating Haggis and saying how much he hates the English.

2020-21 Squad
Yuri Ribiero - The popular Portugese full-back decided he didn't want to stay after his bestie departed for Olympiacos, but he couldn't get a move there himself. Ended up moving to Birmingham to play for Legia Walsall.

Sammy Ameobi - The king of mesmerizing disco feet joined Middlesbrough when his contract expired, but he has spent his entire stint their in the Physio's room - reversing the usual trend of players coming to Forest for that purpose.

Fouad Bachirou - The Comoros international who came so close to joining an illustrious list of players to join Forest and not chalk up a single appearance, is currently continuing his European tour with a stint in Cyprus, playing for Omonia Nicosia

Luke Freeman - The catering team's favourite loan signing of recent times has just signed with Luton Town, where he hopes to learn from another Forest man, Henri Lansbury, who will be working with him on his swing and putting technique.

Miguel Angel Guerrero - A short lived cult hero, these days he plies his trade for Spanish second tier newcomers UD Ibiza by day, whilst enjoying hard house and waving glow sticks around by night.

Michael Dawson - After two stints at Forest, Michael retired to concentrate on his budding media career. He's hoping to be the new presenter of Question Time within 5 years.

Samba Sow - The Malian midfield behemoth with the muscles of steel and the tendons of glass now plies his trade with French Championnat National 2 side Lens B. When he's fit. Which isn't very often - 5 games in two years to be precise.

Tyler Blackett - The pioneer of the 'holding winger' role, changed sports after leaving Forest and now plays American Football for the Cincinnati Bengals of the NFL

Glenn Murray - The ageing striker retired after spending the last days of his career at Forest, but is considering coming out of retirement, just in case Derby need him.

Tendayi Darikwa - Nottingham's favourite Zimbabwean son has gone on to establish himself as a key player and club captain of rugby league side Wigan Warriors.

Filip Krovinović - The attacking midfielder was seen as a key player during his loan spell, but on returning to Benfica, found out he wasn't wanted. He moved back to his native Croatia where he can been seen playing for Hajduk Split personality.

Anthony Knockaert - Returned to Fulham after his loan spell at Forest and is currently waiting for Chris Hughton to get a job, as he's the only manager that will pick him.

Abdoulaye Diallo - After apparently leaving Forest, he has yet to resurface, despite his family filing a missing person's report.

Congo ought to repeat that exercise for the 2019 - 20 squad
Second thoughts, I'll have a crack.
I will ignore those whom Congo has already named and updated:
Brice Samba: after his semi-final heroics, and keeping a clean sheet at Wembley, Brice decided he was disrespected and underpaid by NFFC, so he has gone back to France on a 5-year deal with Lens;
Janet Muric: still owned by Man city, and still loaned out, last season to Adama Demirspor, so his qualities might be well known now to our Greek members;
Tobias Figuerido: being homesick, when his contract ended at the end of last season he was delighted to be abl to move back to Hull, City of Dreams;
Carl Jenkinson: currently keeping the physio's table warm ar Melbourne city (that's Melbourne australia - Melbourne in Derbyshire simply refused to sign him as they couldn't afford the health insurance on him);
Yohan Benalouane: the man in the mask who scored against the Sheep, is now on contract with Aris (also should be known to our Greek friends);
Michael Hefele: retired and returned to West Yorks to become Club Ambassador and Hospitality man at Udders;
Ben Watson: after a season at Charlton Captain Indestructible is now a free agent. Clubs north of the Thames need not apply;
Jaoa Carvalho: delighting Olympiakos with his mercurial talent;
Matty Cash: last season was voted Aston Villa's Player of the Season - the first time the award has gone to a Polish national;
John Bostock: once the next biggest talent in football, the midfield general now plys his trade in League 1 with Doncaster. Mr consistency - still hasn't scored a league goal.
Alfa Semedo & Tiago Silva: both playing for a Portugese side, Vitoria;
Adama Diakharby: bought by Huddersfield for an alleged £8m to be their major goal scorer, like Bostock he remains conspicuous by his lack of a league goal. He now plays in France for Amiens, where once again he isn't troubling the goal net manufacturers;
Tyler Walker: despite a troubled last season when he couldn't get a game on loan to Pompey, he has been rejuvenated and after scoring 2 great goals against the NFFC U23's in a pre-season friendly in Spain he is now the single hottest triker in Europe. Man city rumoured to be working on a player exchange, Haarland going one way, Walker the other... probably a top slice of cash will change hands as well;
Zach Clough: like Bostock, another best thing to happen to British football whil just out of nappies at Bolton, and like Figuerido he was homesick. So homesick he quit his time at rochdale to join Adelaide F.C. (for the benefit of Liz Truss, Adelaide is a large city in south Australia, not that far from Melbourne (by Australian distance standards)... it is a long way from Bolton.

Just a couple to add that the Cap'n missed that left us during the 2019-20 season

Costel Pantillimon - currently finds himself as one of the biggest free agents after his contract with Denizlispor expired. By biggest, I literally mean tallest, not most in demand.

Alexander Milošević - Currently in his third stint with Swedish club AIK, where he seems to return every time he's not a first choice elsewhere.

Rafa Mir - Ridiculed for his ineptness in front of goal during his stint with the reds, he finally found his shooting boots on a loan spell with Segunda División side SD Huesca - and was snapped up by Sevilla on a 6 year contract.

Luke Steele - The experienced goalkeeper couldn't find himself a league club following his city ground departure, but eventually reinvented himself as a striker for non league sides Peterborough Northern Star and Stamford. He thought he'd got himself back into the league when his hometown club Peterborough United offered him a contract, due to injuries to both their keepers, but the football league blocked the move, as he'd already played for three other clubs in the same season. He was last spotted at Notts County on a short-term contract.

Jack Robinson - currently kicking lumps out of anyone who comes near him and adding to his treasured collection of red cards at Sheffield United.

Claudio Yacob - currently breaking legs and nosed for Argentine Primera División club Roasrio Central. He has recently discovered painting as a way to calm his angry nature away from the pitch. Sounds like a Fast Show character.

Liam Bridcutt - The nomadic midfielder is currently a free agent after two and a half years at Lincoln, his longest stint at any club since he departed Birghton.

Yohane Benalouane - Is anyone spotting a trend for our ex-players ending up as free agents? The French-Tunisian cult hero is another. A Super Greek bloke named Harris was his last employer.

Yassine En-Neyah - The Irish lad, with the very Irish name, who was given a surprise Forest debut in the cup game with Chelsea, returned to Ireland where he now plays drums in a folk band called Waterford and Sons.

Arvin Appiah - The surprise £8m man who was ready to set the football world on fire, but turned out to be a damp squib is still with Almeria - but spells with their B team and a loan spell at a CD shop in Lugo, have both been disappointing.

Jack Armstrong
I forgot about Claudio Yacob. Quite liked him.

2018-19 Squad edition

Hillal Soudani - The well travelled Algerian moved to some club called Olympiacos after Forest, but was deemed surplus to requirements and given a free transfer. He is now in Saudi Arabia playing for (Return of) Damac in the top division. Rumours have it that a glowing review of his abilities from our very own Alf convinced their manager Krešimir Režić to snap him up.

Danny Fox - After departing Forest he spent three seasons representing Wigan, but only managed 23 appearances. He then took the opportunity to sign for Indian Premier League side, East Bengal - I didn't even know he liked cricket. When his contract expired there, he wasn't ready to return to England and now works in a scam call centre.

Adlène Guedioura - Left Forest and spent a couple of years collecting big money from Al-Gharafa of the extravagantly named Qatar Stars League, before returning to England to play for Sheffield United, but had his contract terminated after just 1 appearance. Then suffered a bizarre twist when Mouloudia Club Oranais claimed to have signed him, but the deal fell through for unknown reasons, then igned a short term deal with Burton Albion as an attempt to make the Algerian world cup squad, only for Algeria to fail in their qualification attempt. Gave it up as a bad job and retired completely. Now spends his days tending an absolutely magnificent garden.

Daryl Murphy - The big striker arrived at Forest pretty late in his career, but still found time for stints with Bolton, in the days when they tried to quickly cobble a team together instead of watching their Under 21s get battered 7-0 every game, as well as his hometown club, Waterford. Is now retired and enjoys reading, walks in the country and snorting absolutely insane amounts of cocaine.

Ben Osborn - Youth team graduate who got fed up of being asked to pretend to be a left-back, joined Sheffield United, where he still plays to this day, mostly as a left-back.

Molla Wagué - The Malian international who spent time here on loan from Udinese was last seen playing for RFC Seraing of the Belgian First division A. Had his contract terminated by mutual consent in February on this year, with a press release citing undisclosed personal reasons.

Diogo Gonçalves - Portugese winger who was brought in on loan when the club were trying to go down the Mendes route, but was used sparingly after a harsh sending off. Now firmly established as a regular with parent club Benfica.

Saidy Janko - The Swiss full-back currently plays for Bundesliga side VFL Bochum, on loan from parent club Real Valladolid in Spain. Enjoys travelling all around Europe, not for leisure, but just to get first team football.

Sam Byram - The highly rated right-back endured an injury-hit loan stay at Forest, in a time when we always found the most injury prone players available, managing just 6 games. Moved to Norfolk and Norwich University hospital, where he has averaged 10 games per season for the last 3 years - so at least his average is up.

Pelé - No, not that one. The Guinea-Bissau midfielder is still on the books of Monaco, where he has been since 2018 and where he came to us on loan in 2019. Usually finds himself loaned out though and has recently spent time with Reading and is currently with Rio Ave of Portugal.

Gil Dias - Another Mendes client, who joined us on loan from Monaco, before being loaned to a certain Greek side as well. After flattering to deceive for both clubs, it's perhaps slightly surprising that Benfica shelled out 4million Euros to obtain his services in June 2021. It's perhaps telling that he hasn't really established himself as a regular there, but Mendes is quite happy rolling in the cash.

Léo Bonatini - In common with many of our loan deals in this season, is mainly remembered for making no impact whatsoever. Wolves paid millions for him and he had little impact there after his loan deal was made permanent. They have done pretty well out of loan fees for him though, sending him to Portugese side Vitória de Guimarães and Swiss side Grasshoppers Zurich for two consecutive seasons.

Panagiotis Tachtsidis - Another member of the infamous Forest 'zero appearances' club, arriving from Oly and then departing to Leece initially on Loan, but then permanently, in a move clearly designed to circumvent FFP rules and drive Derby fans into frenzied bleating. Now plies his trade for Saudi team Al-Fayha FC, where he has become a cult hero, not only scoring on his debut, but also netting the winning penalty in the 2022 King Cup final.

Karim Ansarifard - Hard working Iranian striker who initially looked like an Oly offload, but eventually won some fans over after a ridiculously long delay over his work permit, coinciding with a time when we really, really needed a striker. Moved to Al-Sailiya SC of the Qatar Stars League, but didn't stay long, feeling he had unfinished business in Greece, where he now plays for Oly's rivals, AEK Athens.

Gboly Ariyibi - Perhaps Gary Brazil's worst signing - the American failed to impress in loan spells with MK Dons, Northampton and Motherwell, before being moved on to Greek side Panetolikos F.C.. In common with Tachtsidis, never had a bad game for Forest. Now plays for Turkish Süper Lig side MKE Ankaragücü - where as a Black American, he has been welcomed with customary Turkish hospitality.

Apostolos Vellios - The big Greek striker, who for unknown reasons, seemed to be absolutely detested by Mark Warburton, moved back to Greece, signing initially for Atromitos F.C but has since had stints in Italy with Ascoli, Romania with Academica Clinceni, Greece again with Lamia and currently Zwolle of Holland - whilst he's never found somewhere to settle down, he does make a good living off air miles.

Stephen Henderson - Goalkeeper who looked to be completely broken by an injury whilst he was here, but has since extended his career with comfortable stints as third choice keeper with Crystal Palace and Charlton - a role which doesn't require a player to actually play, but just help the first two keepers with warming up, carrying their gear etc.

Jason Cummings - The arch-joker himself was tipped for greatness by Mark Warburton. Unfortunately none of us realised this greatness would include a staggering 1 goal in 14 games for us, failed loan spells with Rangers, Peterborough United (where he famously trashed his own flat in a drink and drug fuelled episode) and Luton, before a truly unremarkable spell at Shrewsbury. Has since moved to the destination of choice for failed UK footballers, Australia where he plays for Central Coast Mariners. He is currently attempting to switch his international affiliation from Scotland to Australia, by drinking enough Castlemaine XXXX to officially qualify.

Jorge Grant - The Nike academy graduate who was given his chance by Stuart Pearce has enjoyed a mixed career, succeeding lower down the leagues with Notts County, Mansfield and Lincoln - but never looking like he could make it in the Championship in a very disappointing stint with Peterborough. Has now moved to Scotland to play for Hearts in what could be a pivotal year in his career. If he doesn't have a good season, he might have to take a look at Australia.

First Team Squad
Some of these are actually quite interesting

Ameobi seemed to have a slight knock, missed the whole season
Samba Sow who was so key for us that season, barely played since
John Bostock, I remember people swearing he looked class when he got the chance and saying he should play more, now can't get in a side regularly two divisions below us.
Knockhaert was a player who many thought would be a good signing (not going to lie, I was one) played only four times last year

So many guys currently unemployed

Youngsters people thought should get a chance have struggled either in the championship or league one

A few players who I completely forgot about, a few I still don't remember. Guys like Vellios who I thought deserved more chances, scored some decent goals, but hasn't done much since though

It all looks even better as a premier league club. Instead of reading it and being sad about just why we've never achieved anything, you can smile and be happy those days are hopefully gone

This thread makes me even more grateful for our current set up. Our transfer strategy (or lack of one) pre-Murphy was shocking.

It does make you wonder how much due diligence we did on our signings back then. Apart from Rafa Mir, pretty much all the players signed have done nothing since leaving us. I'm with you on Knockheart too. I thought he'd be quality (thought the same of Harry Arter) but both were busted flushes.

It's the turn of "Team of 2017-18" to come under the spotlight:
(I will not repeat the ones already mentioned in previous posts, and selections are from the first team squad as per Wikipaedia records).

Dimitar Evtimov (Goalie): "Championship Apprentice of the Year" in 2012, but the CAOTY like a wet rocket on bonfire night, failed to take off at Forest. 3 appearances in the 1st team were the sum total of his success, before spells with more clubs than Lee Westwood has saw him finish up at CSK Sofia, where he was in the Bulgarin Cup winning side in 2021.

Srefanos Kapino (rumoured to be a goalie as well): joined in February 2018, as a free agent, made 1 appearance and left in August 2018. Now plying for Bielefeld in the Bundesliga, and for the Greek national side. Another of the mysterious movers in EM's early days of ownership.

Eric Lichaj (he could play left back... but was a right back): signed a 2-yr deal in 2013, but stayed until 2018, captaining the side and scoring the FA Cup goal of the 3rd Round against Arsenal. Married to a PWILF who had a ladies fashion emporium in Long Eaton, Eric moved to the anonymity of Hull before a return to the big time in Turkey. Currently appears to be a free agent...

Michael Mancienne (centre back/sweeper/not very good): Chelsea and England U21 player, until snapped up by Forest, when he promptly forgot he was a defender, and became a charity worker, giving goals away to the needy on many occasions. Apparently he took a pay cut to stay with Forest, but he left for the US of A to become the highest paid defender in the American leagues history. Returned to England, brimming with dollars, to join Burton Albion. He also discovered a mistake on his birth certificate that prevented him from graduating to full England honours, but fortunately alloed him to play for the footballing might, which is Seychelles.

Jack Hobbs (defender): Jack joined Hull after an injury while keeping wicket for the England Test Team cut short his cricketing career. Hull needed a player to occupy the physio's couch at the time, which Jack did with aplomb. He was so good at laying back and never losing that calm control of the sick room, that when a vacancy for a chronically injured player arose at the City Ground, first on loan, and then when we had satisfied ouselves he was a proper sick note and not simply a malingerer, we signed him on a contract. Having achieved a record breaking number of different injuries, some previously unknown to medical science, Jack was released to go a nd lie-abed at Bolton.

Juan Fuentes (left back): I had difficulty in recalling Juan. He figured once in 2017-18 season, and if my memory serves me well he incurred a nast injury that resulted in him never playing again. Like an early morning heat haze, he has disappeared into the ether.

Barry McKay (whinger): from Scotland he came, to Wales he went, and back to Scotland, via Fleetwood, he returned.

Kieran dowell (midfield): loaned to us by Everton, KD had a similar sort of first season to that enjoyed by Jimmy Garner in more recent times. Sham, he had so little ambition he decided a move to the footballing wilderness of Norwich was the right move. That was after a series of other Loans (including a season with the Sheep) - tells you all you need to know. Still with championship hopefuls, Norwich.

Ashkan Dejagah (Midfield): another one I struggled to recall. After being released by Forest after a very bif spell, TrashKan was signed up to play in Iran.

David Vaughan (midfielder): Welsh international with the good looks of a movie star... is now pulling the strings in midfield at Nantwich Town.

Andreas Bouchalakis (midfield): another of the Greek Mystery Plays. Played regularly for a few games (scored twice on his forest debut), but Karanka when he became manager dropped him like a hot coal. Bouch returned to Olympiakos where he goes from strength to strength.

Lily Tomlin (midfield): provided a solution to the riddle "Who ate all the pies?", but for all of his paunch, Lily was a lovely footballer with the ability to turn a game. Sacked by Cardiff, his parent club, after eating all of their pies. Now lighting up Walsall with his burgeoning belly.

Ben Diaz Brereton (Striker): suspended from primary school for having a full beard, moustache and side-burns at age seven this Chilean international, hailing from the little known Chilean suburb Stoke on Trent, was launched on an unsuspecting Aston Villa by Forest a age 17. Currently playing for Blackburn Rovers after a £7m move from Forest, that helped us avoid FFP troubles, he is about to earn us more dosh as we have a sell-on clause and a£20m move to Everton, Leeds or Chelsea looks to be on the cards.

Some more players from the darkest days of our "transfer policy"

Damien Perquis
Perquis signed a two-year deal with Forest in August 2016, agreed to mutually terminate his contract after a year. He went to play for Ajaccio in the French third tier for two years before retiring. Shares the distinction with Cash of being a Polish international but that's where the similarity ends as Cash is also a good player.

Licá
Must be a Catholic he was in and out so fast, apparently made 5 appearances but I'll be damned if I can remember any, signed from Porto then was loaned to Estoril in 2017 and left for Granada in August. Bumbled around in Portugal for a few more seasons and left Farense in 2021

Mustapha Carayol
The Gambian joined from Boro in 2016 and for around 18 months before departing for Ipswich. Moved abroad to play in Cyprus and Turkey and made a brief return to these shores to play for Gilligham last season. Now a free agent.

Pajtim Kasami
A swiss international midfielder who joined Forest in 2016 and left a year later to join Olympiakos where he stayed for 3 months before moving on to Sion in Switzerland and then Basel for 2 years. Now without a club

João Teixeira
Was on loan at Wolves from Benfica but was hated so much they loaned him to us so he could be as bad for us and earn no appearances.

Hildeberto
Another left winger!!! Signed in 2016 and stayed a year before departing for Benfica B, then Legia Warsaw and then Northampton, who know a thing or two about cobblers as he lasted just 3 months on loan. Returned to Warsaw before ending up at Kunshun in China.

Another left winger!!! Signed in 2016 and stayed a year before departing for Benfica B, then Legia Warsaw and then Northampton, who know a thing or two about cobblers as he lasted just 3 months on loan. Returned to Warsaw before ending up at Kunshun in China.

Some proper shite there, no wonder we nearly went down that year. That said, I have a bit of a soft spot for 'Berto, the lovable crazy bastard.

So clueless was Fawaz he thought he was signing the ex Liverpool youngster João Teixeira rather than version we got. May or may not have been true

That list from the Montanier season does send shivers down my spine

It's the turn of "Team of 2017-18" to come under the spotlight:
(I will not repeat the ones already mentioned in previous posts, and selections are from the first team squad as per Wikipaedia records).
A couple of additions that weren't shown on the squad list in Wiki, but were shown in the appearance and goals table.

Armand Traoré - The dearly loved fan favourite joined Turkish Süper Lig side Çaykur Rizespor when his Forest contract expired, before resurfacing with Cardiff, who realised they'd signed a dud and didn't actually give him a single game. Has been considering retirement since September 2020, but in common with his playing style is still dithering and caught in two minds, despite not having any club willing to give him a contract in 2 years.

Matt Mills - f*** Matt Mills.

Jamie Ward - The Northern Ireland International and ex-Sheepshagger who played the 'Attacking Wind-up Merhcant' role so effectively during his career, but football, not so much, has just signed a contract to play in the Premier League...oh excuse me, Northern Premier League, for Ilkeston Town.

Can I also just say, f*** Matt Mills.
