The Relegation Dogfight 23/24

Perhaps, but we saw it last season that teams who suddenly have nothing to play for (Brghton, Arsenal) end up playing like they have nothing to play for.

Brentford, Wolves and Fulham have nothing to play for. Two of those games are at home. They might not win all of them, but they will almost certainly win at least one, if not two. Everton may also be safe by then if they beat us next week.

I don't think it's far fetched to think Luton could end up on 31 or 32 points, and I say that as someone who's been pretty vocal throughout the season suggesting they won't top 30.

Forest can't rely on only picking up three more points. It will not be enough, even with a point back from our FFP appeal. We win two though and we're more likely safe than not.

Our route to survival is:
1) Do not lose to Everton.
2) Beat Sheff Utd
3) Beat Burnley

If you don't want brown-trouser time final game of season then a win against Chelsea would probably mean we're already safe ahead of final game, presuming we've successfully completed first two tasks above.
It's hard to argue with any of that, because every scenario seems plausible at the minute.

Next weekend is where things get real. Good results for Forest mean that the Man City game is a free hit, but if things go south it could have a snowball effect.

You know what, it's probably coming down to the last day of the season, isn't it. You can feel it from here.

If you want my pessimistic but, in my view, realistic take:

I think we get four points from the remaining five. Four draws, and a loss against City. I think we'll lead at some point in all five as well, but you know the drill. We are simply not disciplined enough or aggressive enough in our defensive third to win games at this level, which is why we have only won twice since January. It's highly unlikely this changes at this late stage. Our only hope is Boly being fit and pumped full of spinach and weetabix.

Luton will win two of their last five games, losing the rest, with all six points being gained after 85 minutes. No one wants to admit it but we're deceiving ourselves if we don't think they're capable of that. It is absolutely within their gift.

We'll drop by one (Premier League's worst nightmare) and all hell will break loose. Marinakis will take the Premier League to court (you think I'm joking - I'm being deadly serious we all know he's brazen enough) and he'll have a legal swing for PGMOL too (which I'd love to see, about time someone called the bluff of those corrupt, unscrupulous bastards).

Happy Sunday!
EM may well take the Premier League to court if we drop due to a points deduction.
However,it won’t change the final league table-I’m afraid EM must take his fair share of
blame and responsibility if we are cast back into the wilderness due to poor decision making
and control at the club.

Another bad weekend for us.

Brentford and Palace safe. Everton with two games in hand. As we probably knew it’s between us and Luton for that third spot. Grim.

Forest - Everton (A), City (H), Sheff U (A), Chelsea (H), Burnley (A).

Luton - Brentford (H), Wolves (A), Everton (H), Weat Ham (A), Fulham (H).

I just can’t see how we stay up. Luton have five beatable teams with three at home, and their final game at home. Brentford, Wolves, West Ham and Fulham on the beach now. Coupled with our defence and away form I don’t see another win for us, and think Luton could pick two up.

I see, best case:

Forest: L, L, D, D, D.
Luton: L, D, D, D, W.

Relegating us on the final day, very Forest.

My prediction for Forest’s games are-

Everton-lose
Manchester City-lose
Sheffield United-win
Chelsea-draw

This will leave us on 30 points probably needing a win on the final day at Burnley to survive.
I think it’s going to the wire.

Let's face it lads, if we finish below Luton we don't deserve to stay up. I personally think we will do just about enough. I think Luton will take 5 or 6 points from their remaining games and we will take at least 6. We will beat Sheffield United and get 3 draws.

Let's just wait and see. Those saying Brentford are now safe are wrong. No-one will have expected Palace to win today, there will be twists and turns to come.

Agree. No-one’s safe until they’re safe. If Brentford just rock up to every fixture thinking they’re over the line they could well find themselves losing every time. Then they might well not be safe anymore.

Which is why anyone claiming they have nothing to play for next week is mistaken.

On the other hand Brentford also aren’t very good, however hard they are trying, so could well lose the next couple anyway 😱😜

I think Brentford will be stern opposition for Luton next week-a win for them virtually guarantees
safety.

Exactly. And if they do win people will claim they’ll have ‘nothing to play for’ the week after at Everton. Except they will, winning (or drawing probably) that would cement it mathematically.

Then they’d have nothing to play for 😜.
