The Relegation Dogfight 23/24

Burnley and Sheffield United are more or less gone, the way it's actually shaping up, we might actually be able to relegate Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, that'd be nice. An injury to Barkley would be helpful as well.

That said, there's always a team that picks up a bit of form and always a team that hits the rocks in the final third. Last year, we picked up form and Leeds hit the rocks. Don't see Palace and Brentford being out of the mixer yet either. Bournemouth have Sheffield and Burnley in their next two, win both of them and thats them about safe.

For us, it'd be really nice now if we could get all our hard work done in March and April, then not really have to worry about winning in May.
Actually think Chris Wood might have a real role to play when he's fully back from injury.

Like I have been saying since Luton got that draw against us - It will go down to us and them.

Hate to be wrong but 100% they will give us just enough points deduction for Luton to stay up

IMO I think it’ll be them and Everton, isn’t there one more deduction coming their way?

If we set aside for a moment the points deduction and refereeing decisions saga, the important thing football-wise is that you don't look like a relegation candidate. You play better football than last season, with better players. And I think that's what made EM (who has a short fuse anyway) flip more than the referee. It's as if the big boys don't want you to play with them, although you're good enough.

We need points and soon, we are deep in trouble, but my overall feeling is that we will be fine. I am strangely calm. Though as we all know, it'll come down to points deducted, if any.

Yes of course. I used to go in there regular with my mum when I was a kid. I also took the Geordie in there when she first moved down here.
I think they still have a shop in Stabbo.
The shop in Stabbo is the brother of the guy who ran the LE shop. I don't think the window display changed for at least 35 years!

Given that there seems to be a minimum PSR penalty of 6, and assuming the commission take the safe route and just give us what Everton got, no doubt this will be appealed. We have to try and fight our way to only a 3 point deduction.

I don't know about you lot but I would absolutely bite your hand off for a draw at Luton. I know we should be able to beat them, but losing would be so incredibly damaging (and eminently possible - it'll likely be a high-scoring game) that I would do anything to avoid that.

A draw at Luton?

I want to smash them back in to the Championship.

Of course. But we could easily lose, and that would likely mean us back in the Championship. If someone offered me a 'match cancelled - result: draw' now I'd take it.

I have never felt we would be relegated, under Cooper, certainly under Nuno and even with a points deduction. Currently our football is great. We are scoring and scoring well with some very good goals, less the last 2 games, plus our defence is becoming very good.

Nor did I expect to pick up points against Liverpool or win in the cup. But in both those games we could and arguably should have at least taken a draw, possibly more. Top 6 or other teams will not see us as a 3 points gift from our recent form.

I am down after yesterday's debacle, but that is because I feel so sad for the players. They gave their all with a great performance, cheated by a ref and a poor decision 15 seconds in added added on time, but I will not blame the players. I can't really blame Liverpool either, their player did what Yates has done many times - we need to be careful and also look at ourselves.

All this said, the weight of decisions against us over the last 4 to 6 weeks is unbelievable in a condensed period of time. It does make me feel the God's are trying to gather against us.

It seems that yesterday's post match scenes and reporting are over exaggerated. But I only hope this does not create any form of conscious bias in the PSR enquiry. We need to remember the 2nd order effects of our actions.

Keep it clean Forest, get your head up (which will be hard after yesterday), fight like warriors, but don't become like Leeds with your actions.

Sounds like something the PGMOL would come up with when Forest are winning 2-0 with a minute to go.

Tom Lockyer head injury, even if he's watching from the stands.

My instinct is that from the remaining 11 games, we need to win a min of 4 and draw 2. That would take us to 38pts. If we were to be deducted 3 or 4pts, we'd still finish above Luton, in my humble estimation.

That's just, and I mean just, be doable.

In a dog fight it is all about the fight in the dog, not the dog in the fight.
Do we have sufficient fight in our dog?
That is the question.

So I'm guessing we want Bournemouth to beat Burnley today... keep 'em at arms length?
The other way around for me

Burnley to win. It's unlikely to be the first win in a streak that nets them 20pts from 12 games (6 w and 2 d or 5 w and 5 d).

But it would keep Bournemouth within the relegation mix.

Head says yes. Heart says no, Bournemouth emphatically do not deserve to be seven points above us. I want them to lose to both Burnley and Sheff Utd. Bring on the chaos!

I don’t think they will though. They’ll stroll to an event free win like the charmed bastards they are.

We support any team in a match that involves a team above Brentford playing Brentford or any team below, because the reality is there is only Brentford, Everton, Forest, Luton, Burnley, and Sheffield United who are realistically going to be bottom 3 contenders now.
And when SUFC or Burnley are playing either Brentford, Everton or Luton we support SUFC or Burnley, because, realistically both of them are not going to avoid the drop.

Under normal circumstances I would definitely agree, but with the points deduction hanging over us and Everton, I can't see Bournemouth being dragged into it.
