As a break from our current transfer speculation.

What are the targets we've been heavily linked with in recent years and missed out on, only for them to flop and show we were lucky to miss out on them!

David Goodwillie

During the 10-11 season he scored 17 in 38 league games for Dundee and was one of the heavily linked strikers that summer.

We missed out on him to Blackburn who paid £2.8m for his services.

He has gone on to score two in 28 for Blackburn, 2 in 16 on his Dundee (loan) return with 0 in 1 for Palace (loan) in between (league games).

4 goals since 2011, alleged attitude problems and Notts County now interested in taking him on loan... lucky escape!

When Davies first came in, he was desperate to sign rob Jones and lee croft and had a mini breakdown when we did didn't. :facepalm:

Verhoek's near miss was such a clusterfuck. From "we've signed a 2m dutch winger and are showing him round tge ground" to "the riots have scared him off, and we can't buy any more players because of FFP" in next to no time at all.

Can any still find that vid of McClaren being scared by a phantom presence? Coz I cant now

The Verhoek one was ridiculous, 'homesick' he said. It was just a really unusual transfer too, we announced we had agreed terms for his transfer, which we have never done before, then his Facebook page had all the photos of his grand tour, then he buggered off home!

His career has gone off the edge of a cliff since so maybe a decent near miss.

Djebbour, half way through the medical and refuses to complete any more of it, could have been a decent player but now plying his trade in turkey on their bench or something.

Rob Jones and Lee Croft I don't know why we didn't get those two but have to say I'm pleased Billy lost that one.

on that note some were gutted that we didnt make a move for Russell either....again Scotish players just seem to flop - mainly due to the fact most lack almost all the attributes to be good at football.

They obviously scared us into a 2m FFP u-turn too.
