The Death and Rebirth of Bolton Wanderers

The Mrs is a Bolton lass, so I take a slight interest in the goings on with BWFC.
17 times this season they have been up before the Beak facing winding up petitions (more than we were under Fawaz - not good enough for Nottingham Forest).
Their players are striking because of repeated non-payment of wages, and there was the threat of them being unable to complete their fixtures by the end of this season.
This would have resulted in us not having a game on the final day of the season, and the loss of 3 away points as all fixtures, goals for and against, and points won would be expunged from the season.
Fortunately a white knight has appeared and the HMRC have agreed to give them until 8th May (season ends 5th May).
So, if the players' wages can be sorted we should have that end of season finale.
But it yet again begs the question as to how long before another football club folds?

It’s not the players wages as much, the players went on a 48 hour strike because the club staff have not been paid.

Players on hundreds of thousands of pounds a year can possibly cope with a late payment of salaries (although that is bang out of order too) but non-playing staff on low wages quite clearly cannot, and nor should they.

Years of living beyond their means has caught up with them.

Slightly better news for Bolton is that their prospective buyer is Laurence Bassini, who owned Watford in 2012, taking £1.5 million out of the club in loans which has never been repaid. He's been bankrupted a mere twice in his lifetime, but apparently has proof of funds for the purchase.

Warburton was also said to be behind a consortium to buy Bolton a while back, and considering Bassini was the Watford owner when MW was given his first roles in football I would say that's a big possibility.

Bassini's tenure at Watford will forever be remembered by Watford fans as a period of clown-like incompetence and financial impropriety [5] culminating in the comical 'Safegate' scandal when just prior to the sale of the club in June 2012 Bassini called the police after an employee refused to hand him the keys to the club safe.[6] He'll also be remembered for always wearing a ridiculous red builders helmet whenever he gave an interview to the local paper.[7][8]

A section from the blokes wiki page makes good reading

Weren't Bolton involved in a plan trying to eliminate relegation from the Premier League thus ensuring they would always have their noses in the trough and denying all those behind them the opportunity?

f*** 'em.

Same as Stoke.

I've got a soft spot for the old Bolton, the days of Burnden Park. Proper Ground that was and they had a passionate sizeable following considering their proximity to Manchester.
But the Horwich Bolton Wanderers seemed false from day one.

I hope they survive and no doubt they will.

Approx 5 years ago, someone hacked into the Tesco clubcard site, nicked my vouchers and spent them at that Tesco next to Horwich Bolton.

Tesco did refund me though.
