The ‘I have something to say about Forest that doesn’t warrant its own thread’ Thread

Never had 'em back in 1966. 🏆
didn't have squads of 25+ players, with over half from Africa and Latin America either

International Breaks recognise the globalised nature of football today.

It actually shows that football is not entirely dominated by the elite leagues.

International breaks are even more boring when you don't really give a fcuk about the national side.

I'm much more interested in seeing how our Internationals get on than watching this England side. I tried to watch it yesterday, turned it off after 5 minutes through boredom.

Thats hugely dissapointing. Even Omar manages 15 minutes of Forest before smashing his tv off the wall.

I don't watch England friendlies or qualifiers, and haven't done so for a very long time. I'd rather watch paint dry, bread rise, or 90 minutes of a Forest match from the Chris Hughton era than watch a qualifier or friendly involving England.

I watch England in tournaments and want them to win of course, but I'd be lying if I said that they excite me in any way. In recent tournaments (minus Qatar, that I didn't watch any of on principle) I got more enjoyment from watching games that didn't involve England.

Roll on next weekend.

Aye Ash, I agree... I didn't even bother with the world cup last time.

When I was in Spain in June, England were on the TV in the bars, I kept well away.

I'm just a miserable old git, so I am. 😁 🤣

I don't blame you to be honest, sometimes folk just want to enjoy a nice cold refreshing pint without England ruining it! :ROFLMAO:

Back in the day my love of England was very very strong, it came off the back off 12 year old tears when the Germans beat us in 90, it was my first heartbreak I guess. Even more so than in 86 when I was a bit too young to be emotionally involved. By the time the Euros came around in 96 I was 18 and full of it. If you had asked me at that point if I would have prefered Forest to win the prem or England to have won a Major I would have been hard pushed to answer. Up until the early 2000's EVERY single player wanted that shirt.

Then the shit hit the fan, 20k per week started being the norm, the desire from the players died a bit with each tournement and the simple fact was were were MILES behind in terms of game management (or cheating as we used to call it). We tried to be honest, English spitit and all that shite, but we werent good enough. Players were less interested in the shirt, refs were more interested making it about themselves and the outcome was were were miles behind in the diving stakes. It became annoying seeing players that didnt share the same passion as fans did. I think today we all complain if Forest dont get a free kick for a foul, but back then you just got annoyed that the Argies or whoever were cheating. Still makes my piss boil, but Ive tried to move on 🤣

I'll always be proud to be English and I'll never miss a game, but the simple and quite frankly sad fact is that the international game is simply a backdrop to the domestic game, the players dont have the same desire, and never will again. Not watching or supporting England to me will never ever exist, the games just changed so dramatically, Im just glad I got to be part of the England 90's scene.

Anyway...............Mist's rolling in from the Trent.

I'd be able to get behind England if they had a proper go at it, shown a cracking pair of massive bollocks but they just don't from the top of the FA down including the manager.

Keep hearing we have a brilliant team, but I doubt we will ever see it.

You would rather that they have a proper go, instead of playing it safe all the time.

Playing cloggers like Maguire instead of more progressive defenders like John Stones, and shunting Jude Bellingham to the left wing to accommodate Jordan Henderson?

What the f*** is that all about?

I've always hated all this "oh we lost on penalties again aren't we unlucky" bollocks. We were neve good enough, showing massive naivety in the process.

Now we have Southgate who under his tenure we had Croatia where we wanted them in the world Cup semi final and we had Italy where we wanted them in the Euros and he fluffed both of them gamed because he had no bollocks to go for the throat.

Ive fully supported Southgate since he started. I thought it was a good move because he had worked with all this talent at U21 level and he has done well to make A semi and a final in the the last 2 competitions so its definately progress.

That was until the latest squad announcement, which suggests he's reverting back to type of previous England managers and just picking his favourites, thats the begining of the end and I think we will see the back of him after the next one.

How he can justify Phillips in the squad is beyond comprehension, he's also actively looking to get Henderson in the side to prove a point. The simple fact is, and forget about ethics, Henderson is now playing in a farmers league. The whole thing stinks to me.

I agree with Redders. I have this theory that all managers have their favourites and when things are going well it's not so noticeable, but when things start to get a bit sticky, it shows up like a sore thumb.

Reading that wording again, I wonder if the T-shirt was manufactured in recognition of Joe's return visit to the city in the early-90s, which was arranged and largely funded by a fanzine group at the time (The Mighty Brian?). He toured a number of city pubs over a weekend and quite rightly received a hugely warm reception everywhere, and not just from those lucky enough to see him play. I had the privilege of having a conversation with him in The Falcon at Canning Circus, and a more humble bloke you could never meet.

Must have been then Otis, the more I think about it the more I'm sure it came from the fanzine. I think it deserves a wash and iron.
Suppose I'd better try it on first. There's been a few dinners since it was last worn.
