Team/match day squad during AFCON

Mr RayReardon

Jack Burkitt
Sorry if this has already been posted, but I heard during the Newcastle game that Forest would be the worst hit in terms of player numbers during the AFCON tournament. Am I right in thinking the following will all be unavailable? And for how long? 7 games? I'm presuming that's for countries that make it to the final. Those knocked out early will players be released back to their clubs ? And, finally, am I right in thinking the following fixtures will be affected..

Arsenal H
Bournemouth A
Newcastle H
West 'Am H
Villa A
Liverpool H
Brighton A

That's a significant chunk of fixtures that, at full strength, I'd fancy our chances to pick up points .

So keeper(s) - please January
RB - Montiel/Williams
CB - Worrall/McKenna/Felipe/Murillo
LB - Toffo
MF - Dominguez/Mangala/Yatesy/MGW/Elanga/CHO
CF - Wood

Missing:
Aurier - no great loss
Aina - Toffo will be fine in replacement
Niakhate/Boly - big losses
Sangare - Jury is out, Mangala and Yatesy to continue their run in the side
Kouyate - no great loss
Awoniyi - big loss but Wood has been great stepping up.

Obviously other sides will be hit as well and thankfully we now have a cushion. Am I missing anything??

I think the finalists will play 7 games in the tournament, but the final is 11th Feb. Could (should?) all be back for the West Ham game

Opportunity for Omobamidele to get first taste of action albeit as cover? Canary friend highly rates him too. Not sure the rules work around him and the 25.

He’s exempt from the 25, due to his age when the season started.

Yes, final is 11th Feb and West Ham is 17th. I guess if it's an exhausting, emotional game that goes to penalties they might not be ready for 90 minutes the following weekend, but yeah should only be 4 PL games that are affected.

Depends how far teams like Senegal and Ivory Coast go. I personally think our non AFCON team will be absolutely fine.

CB is the biggest problem, so let's hope it's not a Senegal (Niakhate) v Ivory Coast (Boly) final.

Bar a shock, Sengal (Kouyate, Niakhate), Ivory Coast (Boly, Sangarè, Aurier) and Nigeria (Aina) should all progress to the knock out stages.

That won't effect us much, as it coincides with the winter break. All three have the quality to go all the way. So lets hope it's not a Sengal/ Ivory Coast final.

Get Nino through the door on the 1st give him two and a half weeks to get up to speed and he can play next to Murillo

The Pre-Olympic Tournament(?) is 20th Jan to 11th Feb (depending on progress) so Danilo likely misses the same games.

Why wouldn't/aren't Brazil picking Murillo?

I can't believe that if Murillo and Danillo went to the olympic tournament we could be missing 9 players.

Surely that's grounds for a postponement? Especially given 25 man squad limits.

I'd guess his perceived inexperience against other players who are in the squad?
Danilo had nearly 150 appearance in Brazilian league and cup games before moving here, Murillo had less than 30.

I am concerned with Murillo and Worrall as CBs, this could kill off the Nuno bounce from resulting in any more wins.

They both appear to need a leader playing next to them to get the best out of them.
