His finishing is decent. The initial chance yesterday was unlucky, great touch to hit the post, then as it rebounded a nice little touch to divert it back in. Easy to snatch at them. Even his Leicester miss he did nearly everything right.

I’m pleased with him. I think the recruitment team (if still there) will be proved right on this one.

He smiles when he misses, im sure its like a permanent grin, like he smiled one day and the wind changed direction.

Anyway, if thats the only fault you can pick with him then I'm sure he'd be delighted :ROFLMAO:
I enjoyed that weak shot straight at Alisson in the first half.

He sort of stopped, smiled and then convered his mouth. You could see his inner monologue: 'Haha that was an awful effort'

We are so used to players looking angry/upset over failure, one smiling just seems odd and wrong. But it's just who he is, and more power to him.

There is absolutely no reason for me why this guy shouldn't be one of the first names on the team sheet.

He scores goals. He stretches defences with his willingness as an outlet. He gets into places our "false nine" system never will. He holds the ball up and brings others into play.

Aside from possibly Sam Surridge, none of the players in our squad can do this. Even Dennis is more of a winger/advanced forward type like Johnson is.

You could see on Sat when he came off that none of the front players filled the position he was taking up.

If we set up so obviously with a parked bus, teams will perceive no threat in response, and just go for us, which is what's been happening.

People have formed opinions of him way too early. His conversion rate for the number of chances he’s had must be up there with anyone in the league. We need to give him a run now and hopefully there’s a lot more to come.

Think all the best strikers miss chances, but he gets himself in those positions to get the chances and seems to have the knack of the ball falling to him in the box

His movement is very good, he's physical and contrary to some of the early opinions on here (based on that Twitter post imho) holds it up well. Hits the target often too - I thought the Leicester miss (post) was very unlucky after doing brilliantly in carving out the strike... one of those did everything right bar half an inch on the finish.

Anyhow, I can see us rotating things up front for a spell in a horses for courses approach, but I'm delighted to have Taiwo as an option.

Didnt think he'd shown enough to get the call Saturday, but fair play to Cooper & the player for making it work. One thing is for sure, we needed that focal point up top to hold the ball for supporting players, thats been evident for some time, pennys dropped & Taiwo looks in the box seat for a run now so let's hope he can do it consistently.

Definitely bought a different dimension out of MGW & Lingard.

It's the whole players v clubs who let them go thing - appreciate it doesn't always go well, but Taiwo and Williams wont have needed any motivation for sat, and both had excellent games.

He impressed me with his workrate from the first game he started, and his runs snd movement are only getting better

I said on Saturday but if Lingard can start getting the simple things right, which I'm hoping comes eith more confidence, and MGW realises not everything needs to be a clever flick and starts to keep it simple at times, those three will be hard work for any team

Not saying they're a top 10 package, but as long as we keep tight at the back they have enough about them to trouble anyone, as seen by Gomez at the weekend

And Gomez is by no means a poor defender.

I've said it for a while. Individually these players we have bought are clearly good enough. It's turning them into a team that's the challenge.

We’ve definitely got the core of a good squad for this league, I’m glad we finally saw a bit of that on Saturday.

I really think we can get at Arsenal on Sunday too, I’m not saying we will beat them but we can cause them problems.

Yep, after Liverpool vs Man City everyone was saying Gomez was back to his best

I must admit I was a bit shocked at how bad he looked when I first saw him. Maybe not "bad" but didn't look like a Prem footballer. Looked technically clumsy & unorthadox. Hence my "didn't pass the eye test" comments in pre-season.

But once you get over that he is very effective at what he does isn't he. Just a real handful and seems to get chances through finding space (Union fans mentioned that).

I am imagine it's the same for the manager watching him, think it's obvious Cooper hasn't fully trusted him yet - maybe because of his style. But he has a knack of causing trouble and scoring goals which is what we want from a striker isn't it? Somebody mentioned that Gomez looked relieved when we took him off.

Thought he brought some KD9 levels of physicality and ball winning for the first time this season on Saturday. Must’ve been working on it in training. But now he’s set a great benchmark for all of his future performances, I want to see that level of intensity every week now.

Exactly and because it took time to gel we are looking very likely to go down buts imperative we keep cooper and the core of this side together because we would boss the championship and be even stronger on our return.

I forget which game it was now, but there was one earlier on the season (Everton maybe?) where he held the ball up brilliantly and didn't put a foot wrong until he tired during the latter stages prior to being subbed- I expected to see some in game/post match plaudits on the thread, but it was the usual 'can't control/hold it' of folk who'd made up their minds far too early... some did in preseason, based on what exactly I've no idea.

With regards to Taiwo smiling after he's missed/made an error, people deal with pressure in different ways. I've got an Aunty that laughs hysterically when she receives traumatic news such as a bereavement. It's bizarre/shocking to those who aren't aware of it but it's her coping mechanism for some reason.

I suspect that Taiwo tries to deal with frustration in a way that is more calming.
