Summer transfer window changes.

Premier League clubs have voted to close the summer transfer window before the first game of next season.

The 2018 window will close on the Thursday before the first match of the next campaign on August 9, and the new rule applies only to the buying of players.

Premier League clubs will still be able to sell players to other leagues whose transfer windows remain open later into August and September.

The transfer window for the EFL also remains unaffected, with clubs able to sell to lower division sides unless they decide to bring its window in line with the top-flight.

The Premier League transfer window in January remains unaffected by the impending changes.

The decision to make these changes was not unanimous but was reached by a majority of the 20 Premier League clubs.

So they could end up having their best players poached and have no means for replacement.

I agree that the window should be closed before the league starts but I think they're shooting themselves in the foot a bit

This is the issue for me - if, for example, Real Madrid or Barcelona sign a player from a Premier League club, with the window shut, then they cannot replace them until January.

Unless they hope to persuade Europe to follow suit.

Good luck with that.

Wait....this...seems....sensible!!

Lower clubs actually KNOWING where they stand, and having a month to react, after Prem club pinch their best players.

Also gives a month or so to fringe players at Prem clubs to decide whether they want to stay and fight for a place, or chance it in a lower league.

Seems fairly healthy for the most part.

Turkeys voting for Christmas for the Premier League teams. Right decision though.

They'll just complete their business two weeks earlier, which is how it should be.
The lack of disruption to squads outweighs any drawbacks for most clubs.

I think its a good idea.... like Liverpool and Southampton have shown they dont have to sell.... "you want x player, fine but it must be completed by x date so we can source a replacement".... premier league has weight as its mostly their money that pushes the other markets around europe

Oh come on, clubs have very little power at all.

If Liverpool would have done that with Philippe Coutinho and he wanted to go to Barca after the UK window had closed, he'd have gone. F*ck all the scouse bast*rds could have done to stop it.

Im always of the belief that should a player wish to go you sell but liverpool certainly dug their heals in on that one... as did Southampton.

Will courtinho go? Yes but only when scousepool have a replacement. Hes under contract and they dont need to sell.

The scousers know that Coutinho will want to play for them this season while they are in the European Cup. They also know that if he has a decent World Cup next summer they can cash in on him afterwards.

Coutinho out of the Liverpool squad for this weekend. Odd, he was fit for the internationals, wasn't he? Pointless Liverpool hanging on to him if he's not going to play for them.

Coutinho feigned injury and tried to maneuver a move away. Only just signed a contract the twat.

The sooner a club makes an example of one these players the better. Exile them from the squad for the rest of their contract let them rot.

f***ing self entitled *****. You're on £100k+ a week, just qualified for champions league

Not that I care because it's Liverpool

Good. Stupid scouse pricks are the best part of £150m down and have a player who doesn't want to play. It's a win/win.
