That was not my point,my point was that Mr Clough and Cooper know far more about football than any f***er on here
Obviously.
Mind you, you’d probably change your opinion if you had seen young Nigel stumble around at centre-half against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park in 1993.

Players from the English league are way too expensive, better value for money elsewhere. Leave it to Dane and the recruitment team to find them.

I think some make the mistake of assuming the rumours, media articles and comments on here accurately or even vaguely indicate the transfer targets and policy of the club.

I'm sure many of the players coming in or targeted are going to surprise most of us. Hopefully they will be good enough to get us out of the bottom three.

Which, if any, of your U23 team can be considered good enough for the Premier (even as squad players)?

Probably none.

Panzo is the only player I see being kept arpund the squad but he's not really an U23 player is he.

Fornah, Ojeda, Harbottle and Back should all find loans. The first two to Championship sides, the latter two probably to L1.

A post with some sense at least. Let's wait and see who is actually brought in until deciding if they are going to good enough for the level we're going to be try and compete at.

And even then I think Stevie Cooper and Dane Murphy have earned trust to what they are doing, this is coming from an idiot (might have been me ) who questioned the Steve Cook signing in January.

Might be better to see them play for 10 games before we cast judgment - but that seldom happens on here!

I'm taking every transfer rumour with a pinch of salt but it's certainly more exciting that waiting to see Worrall and Johnson snapped up with budget replacements!

The few more concrete bits of business we're looking at... MGW, Rothwell etc are all really promising

My simple take (with the major caveat that I have no clear picture of your U23), with the three basic criteria being feasibility, maintaining the core of the current team, especially in defence and midfield, to maintain compactness, and adding quality, especially upfront:

GK: Samba, Horvath, Smith. Smith is probably not good enough, but I don’t believe in too many keepers, and he’s under contract. [Incoming 0, outgoing 0]

RB: Spence (on loan or on a perm), Laryea. Spence is vital to the way you play, and I’m not as sure as most of you are that he will be snatched up by a richer club, because he has not established himself defensively even in the Championship, let alone the Premier. Laryea is probably not good enough, but you’ll need money in other positions. [Incoming 0, outgoing 0, but much more money in order to keep Spence]

LB: New, Colback. You’ll need big money here. Colback’s experience will be needed, in this position and in midfield, but you’ll need a Spence type player who’s also decent defensively. [Incoming 1, outgoing 2 (Lowe, Bong)]

CB: Worrall, new, McKenna / Cook, Mbe Soh, Panzo. A central CB with more speed than Cook (who’s otherwise excellent) and good with the ball at his feet would be nice. But they don’t come cheaply at this level. [Incoming 1, outgoing 1 (Figs)]

Midfield: Garner, new / Yates, Fornah or new, Cafú. I think Garner is Premier material, and this season he has shown that he has the stamina to make it in a season with many matches (often a problem with youngsters). But you’ll need someone with much better quality than Yates (who will certainly play a lot as well) as his partner. I’m keeping Cafú for the dressing rooms. [Incoming 1-2, outgoing 2 (Arter in the dumpster, Ojeda on a Championship loan)]

Front three: Johnson, Davis, new AM / Surridge, new winger, new winger, perhaps new striker. I know you all like Zinckernagel, but you’ll need better in the Premier, especially in the system SC prefers, with the striker on the side. You’ll also need at least one and probably two proper wingers (especially for different formations), since you have none of Premier quality, and perhaps a third striker just in case. [Incoming 4, outgoing 5 (Zinckernagel back to this club, Mighten on a Championship loan, Silva on sale, Lolley on sale, Taylor on sale, Grabban out of contract)].

A friend of mine keeps tabs of players we've been supposedly linked with, according to the press. In the last summer window he counted 170.

That's about £160m worth of transfer fees to stump up...

Or two No Pride Park’s if you will ? Or is it eight ? I can’t keep up with NPP current valuation

We can still loan we don’t need to spend in all areas the world is our oyster.

Yep, there will also be some decent players available on free transfers and low fees as well that we can get to fill out the squad. Not every singing needs to be a big 8 figure transfer fee (though we will likely need to make a few of those too).

We are gonna have to bulk up our squad, we need players like Rothwell and Wallace so we can buy genuine PL quality elsewhere. Every player we target is gonna cost 5m+ now, even squad players. We have to be smart, we are acting fast with the likes of Rothwell so we can fill out the squad.

If we go into the season with only frees as our business you are right we are down before a balls kicked…

But we won’t. EM is notorious for being a tight bastard, isn’t he.

For me...

GK: Samba is erratic but replacing him isn't the priority. Horvath OK as back up.

RB/RWB: at least 2 players needed who can play here, obviously hopefully one is Spence. Laryea is completely untested even at Championship level really.

LB/LWB: If we go in to August with Colback here we're f**ked frankly. I'd sign Lowe providing silly money isn't being asked (max £2m) and I'd hope to bring in another, hopefully better LB.

CB: Worrall and McKenna are both fine. Cook is great in the Championship but at PL level probably lacks a yard. I wouldn't be too upset if he starts the season but I would like to think we'll bring in at least one CB, preferably one with pace. Mbe Soh and Panzo to go on loan, Figgy to leave.

CM: Would love Garner to sign. Yates is OK but technically could be found wanting playing against better players. This is a huge priority for me, PL teams will often have 3 in here and keep the ball for fun if we're not careful. Need 4 signings here I feel. One to be a nasty, ball winner Garner hopefully as a bit of an all-rounder and then a player who can get on the ball and hurt teams, would love Gibbs White. I'm also expecting Rothwell to sign as a squad player. Ojeda to go on loan.

LW/RW: Depends how we set up as sometimes we've gone 3-4-1-2 but I would imagine we'll have Johnson one side and someone else the other. Lolley will leave the club I think. So for me we'll need at least 2 wingers. Ideally one who playa on the left and one who can cover left and right, possibly Wallace? Mighten to go on loan.

ST: Grabban to leave on a free transfer. I would sign Davis but only if the price is right, 4/5m plus add ons is a very price IMO for someone who's goal record is like a defenders and appears a bit injury prone as well. For me we need 2 strikers, so Davis and one other. In the top flight you might only get 2 chances in the fame and you need someone to take one. They don't come cheap though so I would imagine a large chunk of the budget is spent here. Perhaps Piroe from Swansea then have Surridge and Davis on the bench to come on. In my opinion Surridge lacks the touch at the moment for starting games in the PL. We saw at times against Bournemouth and Sheffield Utd that it doesn't stick enough with him to get us up the field, and I would imagine we'll be needing to get up the field regularly next season.

So thats 12 players needed, give or take....

We seem to be linked with every man and his cat. My dream summer would see us sign Rodon, Spence/Neco Williams, Conor Gallagher, Gibbs-White and Davis. Then sign Worrall and Johnson to long term deals. No idea what we would do at LWB, but they are the sort of names I’d love us to go after. It would be a young team but I think it could compete.

That plus a new striker would be great.

Nottingham's dirty secret
General consensus that the team I posted earlier would be relegated by Christmas. That might be so. But we're also not in a position to buy a completely new team. In the first season, and hopefully not our last, Samba, Worrall, McKenna, Cook, Yates, Johnson will be some of the first names on the team sheet.

Then you'd hope we bring in some quality additions or we buy our loans. So add Spence to that list and say we buy MGW (I'd still buy Zincs as a squad player). The trouble is. Those two could cost us £40m. That won't leave a whole lot left. Even add Davis to that list and that might well be our Summer signings done.

Bringing in the likes of Rothwell and Wallace on frees is a good idea. If we do bring them in, Cooper will have every intention that they're good enough for the top flight and can play a part. The £170m touted includes parachute payments. The £90m or so extra we receive will be for Year 1.. can't see us spending more than £60m of it. That's MGW, Spence and possibly a couple more 'Davis quality' additions. Interesting to see the club are still trying to work some loans and that's a good thing.

I fully appreciate the team I posted would be great for the championship. I must say, I'd have half an eye on that anyway. The trouble with getting promoted with so many loans to help us up - they leave an expensive hole. We're going to need team spirit, Cooper magic and a whole lot of luck to stay up. Should we fail. We don't panic. Bounce straight back and built more.

There's no way Yates will be one of the first names on the team sheet. Will always give his all for the cause and will be a great squad player but Dane& Steve aren't daft. They know we'll need better quality in that position if we're to compete

I'm happy to be corrected, but I think it's a more restricted number of loans that can be selected in a matchday squad in the PL?

No, there is no change.

But the limit of loans 2 from the Premier League will be difficult as we are not gonna take Championship players on loan like we did last year.

Assuming Garner comes back that only leaves 1 more Premier League loan (Broja?)
