Steve Cooper will always be the MAN!

It’s simple. Which side of the fence are you on?

That's clearly your wrong interpretation of it and not what I'm saying.
Hardly. You were basically saying Cooper should've been given longer as there is a possibility he could start getting results. Surely that possibility is there for all managers? So in effect you're saying don't sack anyone in case they turn things around, whether that takes weeks, months or years. Complete nonsense.

That’s patently not what he meant, or more importantly, said. Take any long or short term form out the equation and the fact is (based on results) we’re 27 places higher than when Cooper originally took charge.

It was quite obvious actually.

And it made sense regardless of how you rate Cooper or Marinakis.

Sacking Cooper was entirely too early imo. Last place in Championship to Premier League, keeps us up through a tricky first season, continue to be plagued with key injury issues during season 2,

I've no idea what is happening within the dressing room, but if that's played a part then the tail wagging the dog is a huge risk.

It might be because we're in our little forest bubble but I can't remember any time a manager was fired and had such an outpour of affection not only from fans but from his players.

I've seen serge, Taiwo, Elanga, Neco and Turner myself, and there's probably more.

Love Steve Cooper and wish him all the success in the world.
I do remember years ago hearing one of the Liverpool glory years old boys (Hansen maybe? Souness?) saying something along the lines of “If a handful of players like you, that’s good, but if all the players like you, you have a problem”.

It stuck with me because it always seemed like dinosaur club wisdom bollocks, but I’ve been thinking about it quite a bit over the last couple of days.

I was looking at a Crystal Palace forum and someone was talking about Cooper potentially building a very exciting setup down in London with emerging youth talent alongside a targeted transfer policy. They think he could be the man to finally push Palace away from mid table mediocrity and into Europe.

I’m going to get behind Nuno but I can’t help but think we’ve made a massive mistake and implemented a system based on spend, spend, spend, which was never going to work with Cooper (or any manager).

You wouldn't blame him if he did, would you?

Everyone has to realise that football is not a game of honour. And it's highly unlikely that one party is solely to blame for any situation.
My point was exactly that.
I don’t want to be branded anti-Steve, but I do wonder how much of Steve’s avowed deep love of Forest and the City of Nottingham was brilliant PR and how much was genuine.
It will be interesting to see if he falls passionately in love with Crystal Palace should he be appointed.
He has made a Rod for his own back whether the Forest love was genuine or PR.

Whether it be a player or manager, you always have to say the right things when you move to another club, look at Johnson at Spurs. I can’t believe that it was all an act with Steve - he didn’t have to get involved in the community, he didn’t have to meet up with ex-players etc.

His stock was incredibly high in the Summer, so I wouldn’t blame him if he interviewed for other jobs, especially given that the relationship with Marinakis was already strained.

Well I've kept off the media over the last couple of days but I feel I've been left out of the loop.
There's loads of people who know exactly what happened over the last 2 years They know when the events took place and exactly who was involved.
I suppose they were sworn to secrecy at the time.

Mate of mine is a West Ham fan. Said one of their big podcasts yesterday calling for Cooper to replace Moyes.

I saw an interview when he was at Swansea and he was very much the same there. Doesn’t necessarily make it artificial though - he maybe just goes all in when he gets a job.

Maybe he truly loved Swansea, Forest, and will love Palace too if they treat him well there? I'd say, obviously not knowing for sure, that he's the kind of person to put his whole heart into everything he does and fully invest at all levels, rather than think it involves any deception.

behind a pay wall?..
Thought you could access at least one article without a subscription, a quick summary as follows:

- Cooper made supporters "fall in love" with Forest again;
-He was the ‘Pontypridd Pep’ who understood the club’s history and taught supporters how to dream again; but
- Relationship with Marinakis broke down some time ago, was close to the push a few times last season;
- Cooper lasted much longer than some at the club thought he would given results;
- Fear of a backlash from fans allowed Cooper to stay on for this long;
- Marinakis's view is I've given you the players, you need to deliver;
- No discernible style of play, what style we have falls apart without Taiwo;
- Random/weird team selections and substitutions, unrest in the playing squad;
- fanbase has become divided (not sure about that), and Cooper did not deserve the situation turning toxic;
- Over the summer, Copper lost even more control over signings, as Forest were unhappy with some players he had previously recommended. Backroom staff added who were club appointments;
- Copper frustrated at number of players coming in on deadline day rendering assimilation challenging;
- McKenna exiled as he won't be offered a new contract, joined by Worrall following a bust-up with Cooper when told he wasn't in the squad for the Villa game. Further "confrontation" a few days later in training confirming his (Worrall's) exclusion from the squad;
- Randall, a supporter of Cooper and other senior figures marginalised, no indication why.

Time will tell if it was a massive mistake to sack Steve and, obviously, you're only passing-on something you've seen, but the referred-to Crystal Palace model couldn't apply here for the simple reason that there's currently insufficient quality in our academy, and we're potentially years away from having that advantage, despite EM's efforts to improve our talent pool by delivering what was required to achieve Cat 1. Until Marinakis arrived, it had been allowed to decline too much after Paul Hart and Nick Marshall left.

Yeah, I think that's probably correct. His mental approach is to give more for something he loves, so he has to love the club to give it his all.
