Marinakis language going into the season was pretty clear. Coopers been given 150million to be "competitive" in this league, not to be relegated. We should probably stop imagining a scenario where Cooper takes us down & keeps his job.

We're a much bigger draw as a Premier league, particularly one thats still very much in the hunt to remain there. My guess is the contract situation reflects the feelings of both manager & owner on where we are. If things dont improve, rightly or wrongly I dont see this partnership continuing.

With all that said, having listened to Steve Cooper intently, he's a guy who has all the bases covered & more, attention to detail unquestionnable. If theres a way, I think only he can find it.

Id stick unconditionally, but then its not my money & status on the line.
And thats the issue.
Two things-money spent equals increased pressure, its inevitable and understandable and I'm not sure it "matters" who is bringing the players in, fact is the big man has gone through serious brass. But perhaps even more importantly Coops has looked a bit at sea in the Prem. I'm not sure hes shown the tactical nous we need-his systems have looked extremely vulnerable to good teams, his substitutions have been frankly rubbish and I'm not sure he know who his best 11 is.
Both these things make him vulnerable and he needs to get a couple of wins on the board sharpish or things will Strat to look difficult.

Without doubt there is pressure - probably most from himself. As supporters we can have have a view but it’s an assumption - we don’t know for certain the view of the owners.

One issue you raise is knowing ‘his best team’ - I believe the modern game is much more about the match day squad for each game, and making in game changes of formation and/or substitutes. The size of the bench makes this much more important.

I do agree though that SC is still developing his thoughts on best combinations - this is always an on-going exercise but much more difficult given the volume of new signings, the late arrival of many, and the impact of injuries.

Time is a precious commodity in football - in the Championship there have been eight managerial changes already this season before the end of September.

I retain my trust in SC and hope he will be supported long-term by the owner. It’s my view that is in the long-term interest of the Club.

Nottingham's dirty secret
Every time he speaks he reinforces just how much of a top man & top manager we have.

He's made a few strange calls recently, dropping O'Brien being the main one, but in 12 months I think that and dropping Zinc for Luton are his only mistakes. 99.9% of times he makes the right call at the right time.

We won't get better than this man. Not even if we wait another 23 years.

I dont find the dropping of O'Brien* but quite as strange as others - he'd played almost every minute so was probably too fatigued to play 3 games in 6 days, and then Coops has tried to bed Frueler in, who, on paper at least, offers a lot of experience.

Agree that O'Brien's response when brough on v Fulham should have him first name on the teamsheet for Monday night though - really good impact.

Edit: * id call it a rotation rather than a dropping to be fair.

The one thing we’ve learned about Cooper is that he won’t put someone in the team unless he thinks they are ready for the role - including being fit enough and understanding what they have to do. That’s why having time to work with the squad in between games is crucial. Don’t be surprised to see those new players that have been away on international duty and not had time to train, to be on the bench or not in the squad.

Let’s hope that Mangala and Niakhate are both match fit - as they have both proven themselves to fit with Coopers way and are (imho) Premier League quality

Putting Lodi straight in v Man City suggests otherwise. But I get your general point.

Perhaps Lodi was already playing in a similar set up in his previous club?

Somewhat controversially distance has given me a different perspective over the past few days... at the very mention that Coops was under threat I initially had quite an emotional response of NO WAY.... however having pondered it I've now come more to the position that there's little room for sentiment in football.

Coops has to prove he's up to the task and at the moment I fear he's been found wanting... admittedly injury has possibly not helped to the likes of Mangala and Niakhate but team selection, set-up and if I'm honest general preparedness for the PL has been suspect and its a case of adapt, and adapt quickly, or die. I'm not saying I want him to go, of course not, he's brought us the impossible, something we've could hardly dream of over the past 23 years. However in this day and age you are only as good as your league position and unless this changes fast I can see the big man thinking along the same kind of lines and if he brought in a manager who can get us up the league then we'd be idiots not to consider it.

I recognise that's a very big IF and that ideally we would give the man time and maybe even go down to come back up - but we don't live in that world and we don't have that kind of owner. So while I'm backing SC to turn this all around if it happened I'd be sad but the club is the most important thing.
The guy has an almost entirely new squad, many of them new to this country. The only thing Cooper has been found wanting in is the amount of time to gel them together as a unit.

I saw a tweet yesterday that read:

"A year ago we needed Cooper. A year later he needs us."

I completely agree. The man can have all the time for me. He lead us to glory and is now having to try and do it with a brand new set of players. And he ain't doing too bad considering.

100% agreed. We were always going to be up against it for first few months whilst everyone beds in. Long way to go and Coopers the man for us

From an outside perspective, imo you need to keep Cooper and give him a chance to bring you back up if the worst happens.

Again, from an outside perspective, this is a manager who has taken you from Championship obscurity, to good/exciting Championship football and your first return to the big time in roughly 25 years in his first attempt.

If you can even keep hold of 75% of your squad for next year (if you did get relegated), you should be in a really strong and stable position to come right back up and continue to build.

Personally, i would not be so quick to eject a man who has done so much for a club, and brought your club together again after so long drifting, honestly i think he deserves a chance to bring you back if the worst happens.

Just my opinion, for what its worth (not a lot lol) ;)

We’re getting worse every single week even though we’ve basically had a month off we still look poorly coached.

We all love Cooper and always will but IMO he’s out of his depth.

Get someone in to build from the back and back us hard to beat.
