Steve Anthony Cook

Only conceded 2 goals with Worrall/McKenna/Cook all in the side.

1. A penalty after that rash challenge by Cook himself.
2. When Brice decided he wanted to play in midfield against Leicester.

He is improving each game , Tonight was a real test for our 3 CBs it was physical non stop with pace and skill , We coped brilliantly, None of our back 3 are particularly quick and Blackburn tried to exploit this, Worth noting The full backs coped better due to their speed , He just needs to watch his speed on the ball , Get rid quickly, I am sure Coops knows this and it's the reason Wozza always pulls wide right , little details I know but hopefully we can one day have a pacey CB that can complement the other 2 .
I don't think many teams will put us under as much pressure as Rovers did with 10 men but they were shit or bust and we eventually got the second goal.

Worrall didn’t play vs Derby

They did more than try - they managed on at least one very noticeable occasion to get the ball and two attackers in behind our defenders, but somehow managed to not score. One that would be punished more often than not, so something we still need to be wary of.

Thought he stood up well last night to a Blackburn side that didnt give you much respite.

If your getting too forensic, he aint the quickest at getting the ball out, he's been charged down more than once which aint ideal when you lack pace.

Been solid though & our concession rate with him in stands up to the closest of scrutiny. Always a tough watch watching that high line with three Cbs that lack pace.

I don't know why you constantly focus on the negatives with him MASE.

We won't get better than the 3 we have and they all compliment each other. None of them have pace and we have been playing this way since Cooper has come in, you can count the goals we have conceded due to a high line on one hand with fingers to spare.

For me since Cook has started playing McKenna & Worrall have got better too, McKenna especially it feels like he's free to attack defenders and he's suddenly winning every header he goes up for. It helps massively because Cook is so dominant in the air he normally picks up the target man and let's others win easier duels.

Ive done about 3 posts on the player, all of which have been underpinned by the fact he's been solid. Its been largely positive outside his lack of pace, his error against Cardiff & dwelling on the ball coming out.

Its a decent three, do they compliment each other? They all lack pace to be fair. Its all about improving for me, so if there is a CB in the ranks who improves our mobility out from the back & our recovery, then Im open to it. Cooks main problem is McKenna & Worrall have been largely word perfect.

This is the thing, even when your shit hot, you should still look at getting better.

With him being caught in possession. It isn't ideal & until we pay the price let us hope we get away with it but what I do like about it, is that he is being brave on the ball and waiting for the right pass through the lines to start our build-up. Certainly not taking easy options.

Cook was never going to be the man you would back to win many sprint race challenges.
What he is though is an excellent reader of the game, and he takes up positions early to keep himself out of trouble.
In that respect he is a bit like Coback.
Experience like Cook (and Colback) has is vital when there are so many younger players in the squad.
Worrall and McKenna have both looked a lot better with Cook in the central position, compared to when Figs has played there.

He was sharp tonight , Saved us a couple of times and was unlucky not to score , Probably his best game for us.

Him Worrall & McKenna must be so difficult to play against.

They all win most of their headers and block everything

I really like him. A proper old-school centre back. Big and bustling and makes crucial blocks as we saw this evening.

A great signing IMO.

This trio is as good as we are going to get short of promotion and several 10’s of millions spent.

The only thing that beats them is pace and trickery, but that’s true of just about everybody CB team unless you go back to Des in his prime…

Deserves a mention, he didn't put a foot wrong all night and could see his game management head come on with 10 mins left.

Although he resisted the stretcher, it definitely looked a concern, and certainly flattened the atmosphere, understandably.

Yes a big loss but we've got a manager who can resolve issues and the players to step up. I've never felt more confident in a setup since Clough was here. You can keep your BD, he's not fit to tie Cooper's bootlaces.

We won't know until it's been scanned (if it's bad enough). He walked off (aided), which is encouraging, but so did Cohen when he did one of his ACLs.

Hopefully it's one of those that looked worse than it is, but with QPR on Weds, which is a relatively key game, and Liverpool on Sunday, which we don't really have a great chance in but would be nice to think we do, before a weekend off it would be something even if it's not too bad we could do without.

We do have other CBs of course but they're all young and none of them have the promotion and PL experience Cook has, which no doubt helps the others too.

Yes its bloody frustrating because he was getting better and better with each game. Hes a quality player-no doubt. Apart from the fact hes a good technical defender, winning tackles and headers nearly all the time, his positioning is excellent and I am more and more impressed with his passing the more I see of him-he got great feet. His weight of pass and accuracy is really excellent.
Lets hope hes not done something bad-at his age soft tissue injuries can take a long time...

Nottingham's dirty secret
Great player but fortunately we've got figgy, Panzo and Soh to step in.

We're very fortunate.

I have a sneaking suspicion Soh or Panzo are going to run away with the jersey.
