"The media are there to ask the questions that we, the fans, want answered. They’re there to represent us and ensure we’re not taken for a ride by people to whom we give our support. The media blackout prevented that, and it’s my firm belief that East Midlands Today enabled it to happen by giving (Billy) the platform for his one-sided take on things."

Agree 100% with this.

Spot on. The EMT behaved dreadfully throughout this mess. Dreadfully staged fluff pieces really did not help. It was just bloody embarrassing in fact for all concerned.

All bob on. It was a real farce. I can't take Jackson serious anymore. She's lost all credibility to me.

Good article, I enjoyed reading that.

However, in Natalie's and EMT's defence I would say that if someone promises to give you exclusive access to them and their organistaion then, as a journalist, you're probably not going to turn that down. It's not an opportunity that comes around very often I wouldn't think. If she/EMT had turned it down I think Billy would have found another journalist/organistaion just as willing to take the "exclusive" story.

I am not saying it's right or wrong but just offering a possible reason why she/they did what they did.

Totally see your point. Guess the issue is that she compromised any journalistic integrity by never actually trying to get a story but rather just asking questions the club sanctioned.

Nothing wrong, per se, other than she is supposed to represent the viewership rather than the club. What she produced was the sort of stuff that could have been produced in house. She was never impartial, and became a vessel for Billy that enabled him to use the BBCs name for his own propaganda.

Had EMT said they wouldn't do that, the blackout wouldn't have gone on for the whole duration. He shouldn't have been able to pick and choose how he used the media. It's a trade off - for every happy clappy piece there should have been a serious piece.

really good article, I especially like the bit about football being more than about the games these days - very very true!
