Snatchday 1: Nottingham Forest Vs the PGMOL

Funny. So either, the VAR sat there impassively in silence while what looked all ends up at least potentially a penalty incident occured with the on-field referee some distance away, and did nothing. Or they are lying.

It'll probably turn out he'd gone for a shit at halftime and not come back yet.
A wank rather than a shit, I would have thought.

Even after a few days I still believe that statement was ill advised and will do more harm (to us) than good. We could and possibly should be talking about a recent win, 4 points cushion from 18th and an appeal to look forward to.

Clatternburgs appointment has either ruffled some feathers at the PGMOL as he knows the dirty little secrets or they simply think he's a tart. Either way it's pissed off alot of people.
The dodgy decisions were occurring before his appointment.

The Fulham game showed how refereeing should be done.

PGMOL have agreed to release the VAR discussion from the three incidents on Sunday.

Just been announced that there is no audio for the third goal - the one where Taylor indicated Young got the ball. Apparently it said on the big screen it had been reviewed by VAR! From my disabled seat on the lower tier back row I had no view of the screen ( interestingly not a restricted view seat).

Of course it’s all above board!!

Actually do think, Forest should then ask for the match to be replayed!
Bordering between incompetence & corrupt then!

Nicholas Randall, and the big man be having a busy next couple of months by the looks and sounds of it...

To be honest a replay is one outcome I could live without .
Never going to happen anyway of course.

To think that football was a simple game-before it was ruined by money,a**eholes and useless suits.
It was a simple game. Referees always made the odd mistake, (the crowds didn't question who his father was for no reason) but technology has highlighted these errors and made it more obvious that an error was made and how bad that error was. The multiple camera angles used in highlights shows have proven how bad a referees decision might be. Back in the seventies fewer games were recorded so if a ref made an error you was lucky to see it otherwise it was just a few fans looking in the right directiion at the right time in the right place who would know for sure that there was a problem with the refs call. Many would react to the calls of others when a player went down but would have near absolute convictition that they were right about a foul.

VAR allowing a remote refereeing official was supposed to catch referee errors, but it seems clear and obvious to me that the clear and obvious error proviso in the VAR remit doesn't work. If a referree misses someone kicking the back of a foot hard enough that the kicked foot moves the ball it has to be a foul doesn't it? Moreso surely, than when a player swings and kicks a ball and an opposition moves across from his blindside and is caught by the follow through of the kick.

If the VAR technology doesn't catch the errors the onfield refs make perhaps we should ban the cameras completely and go back to days when the errors were only seen by those in the grounds. :)

You just know we'll get a decision go our way on Saturday "Looks lads, everyones watching us now, if we give them a decision it wont look as bad, but ffs dont give them their 2nd penalty of the season, they might end up taking 2 points away from Man City"

Even though it will be a cricket score.
Of course we'll get something on Saturday as the game is on Sunday. 🤣

I was in the upper tier of the Bullen Rd stand and I did not see the VAR CHECK message on any of the incidents.

Anyone else remember a frustrated Graham Souness, when Blackburn manager, saying in post match interviews ‘Blackburn Rovers don’t get awarded penalties’ ? I wonder what he was implying because on Monday he was clear there’s no corruption in our game. Was it once corrupt Graham and now gone?

Some sports, for example Cricket and Tennis, are better suited to technology because of the
natural breaks in play.
It’s clear to me that VAR doesn’t really work in football due to the often lengthy stoppages in
what is supposed to be a continually flowing game.
For me,goal line technology is a bonus but I’m afraid VAR needs removing (especially if
it can’t identify obvious errors as was the case in Sunday).
I’m sure 90% of fans would like to see it gone.

Varoufakis does a great talk on corruption in southern European countries compared to the north. Yes in Greece you can pay a doctor to jump the queue, yes you can avoid a police fine if your cousin is a police officer. Loads of stuff like this goes on all the time.
Corruption in the UK is on a far grander scale as we've seen with PPE and similar things recently. And that's only the ones that come to light.
I think we get away with it here with the image of , we're British old chap we don't do things like that.

Absolutely. You could argue that as long as everyone knows the rules, much of people using wealth and power to access preferential treatment and services is just capitalism without a formally published price list, and is simply cultural. I literally cannot get an NHS GP appointment ATM and I have a serious chronic medical condition, but I can pay £60 to go private and get one straight away.

(Some would strongly disagree with the comparison, but having links to the eastern med and middle east has made me more pragmatic).

Where it is used to obsfucate serious criminality, or by those in control of the law to misuse public funds, pervert the mechanisms of democracy etc, it absolutely has to be stamped out. It's this higher level that I agree is the UK's Great Hypocrisy, and it's sad how little interest both the media and the electorate seems to have in that these days.

Anyway that's probably a convo for different thread.

f*** the Howard Webb and the EPL.

Has anyone got a source for the 'no audio for the 3rd incident' claim?

It wouldn't surprise me - but I'd like to see some proof.

White, Jordan and Murphy were unaware of that until it was raised by a caller, "Forest fan, John", that the Sky commentator (who can evidently hear the officials' conversation in real time) said that Taylor's decision had been cleared by the VAR. At which point, Murphy remarked that if that is the case it's possibly a cause for some concern.
