Sir Bobby Charlton RIP

To think how he recovered from seeing his friends and team mates die at a young age, and then achieve so much in the game. R.I.P.

Just heard it on Radio Notts. Very sad news indeed. Bobby was the man with the golden boot. He could smash a football as well as the best of them and that at a time when the ball would be carrying extra weight in the rain. Few could bang 'em like Bobby!

RIP Sir Bobby. Thanks for the memories.

That's really sad. A great footballer and ambassador for the game.
RIP Bobby

Was wondering to myself whether he was Englands greatest footballer earlier
Probably the most respected outside this country.

A true legend for England and Manchester United.
A ‘gentleman’ of the game-I’m really pleased I heard Bobby show his human side by giving
Paddy Crerand a volley of abuse for playing a ‘hospital pass’ on a rain soaked night
at the City Ground in 1969 (a game where another great (George Best) scored the winner).
R.I.P. Bobby.

Imagine how well he’d be able to hit a modern ball, with a modern boot on a golf green of a pitch 👌

I'm sure Bobby played in a cup tie less than a month after the Munich crash which was, rarely for TV in those days, televised because Man U played with players involved in the crash and a patchwork of others drafted in for the emergency. It was a very emotive time.

A fine bloke, very quiet and seemingly shy, who was so expressive on the pitch. He never seemed fitted for anything except playing football, so Man U made him an ambassador, a role which suited him admirably.

He made his mark in football and, certainly for my generation, became an idol to many; a real footballing great.
