Takes many decades to change mindsets.

Mi Dad wa in Africa fer 8 years in the fifties, he towd me it'll tek 2000 yrs or more for them to come up to speed.

I was in Blackpool for a year not so long ago and thought the same.

Our country might be thought to have gone to the dogs, but just try living in some of these countries without the benefit of a million pounds a week and then report back.

You'll either starve (as in Africa) or end up in prison for saying or doing the wrong thing (as in most of the Middle East).

We still have our corrupt or incompetent politicians, but you can be sure your vote will count, you can say pretty much what you wish about said politicians and most of us have a decent standard of living.

... which is why so many migrants want to risk everything to come here.
You can't blame them, be they attempting to migrate for humanitarian reasons or ecoomic reasons.
However, just because the UK is not as bad as those Middle Eastern/African shit-holes, the great british public should not be complacent.
The ruling classes will do whatever they can to maintain their position at the top of the tree.
Witness: the public disorder and protest legislation.

The Saudis and Napoli deserve each other.

I saw a snippet on skysports where they said a fee of £24m has been agreed for Mane but that his offered wages per year dwarf that (£34m) - FFS

An interesting bit of background reading to give a bit of colour to this thread:
It isn't just sports, and it is nothing to do with "sportswashing", but Saudi has a plan to diverse totally away from oil.

When I did an Open University course in the late '70s, the Club of Rome report told us that oil would run out at the turn of the century.

Onto a winner there, they were. Obviously the Saudis weren't listening.

Huh?

Gross violations of human rights have not halted the march of top-tier sports stars to the kingdom. The last year has seen what one observer called a “tsunami of soft power”.
Football has been another site of expansion with the Saudi acquisition of Newcastle United in 2021, and the Saudi Professional League now competes with China and the US as the place where footballers spend the final years of their careers. Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and many others have recently moved to the Gulf.
Dramatic events – such as the Saudi bid to host a world fair called Expo 2030 – and the “sportswashing” around major competitions, such as the 2029 Asian Winter Games at Neom, are eye-catching.

I didn’t t say anything about whether the Saudi intent was good.
I was highlighting the fact that the Saudis had a plan for world domination through capitalism without democracy.

The world will bend the knee in the end.
Where does China feature in this fantasy?

SA, a country with highly questionable cultural legacies and treatment of its own peoples, is planning to build an empire through expansion into, and exploitation of the resources of other countires.

And, the people of the UK, a country built on a system designed specifically to supress its peoples and to protect the power inherent in wealth, is not happy.

Can anyone actually name more than one or two clubs, and has anyone got a clue about who will be playing for who?

When their window is shut they will go back to being irrelevant.
