Stats don't exactly scream quality..... certainly not £3 million worth...

21 year old, 6'1, Croatian striker currently playing for Dinamo Zagreb.

Article says we've bid 3m euros, Barnsley were interested last season so could be one of Murphy's choices.

I like this one. Young striker that has played at almost every level with the Croatian National team. He's started to pick goals up and would potentially improve further on those stats.

He's 21, they're not going to. If they were mad stats he wouldn't be within our scope. Forest are valuing Johnson at £8-£10M and this lad has done it at a higher level.

Blimey, 45-minutes-or-so and the Post-online is still to lift it from here. Ms Clapson won't be happy with her underlings.

And here in a nutshell is the issue with Barnsley moneyball approach…
We are still taking a gamble, just a different sort of gamble than with the older players we used to sign.
Not against it by the way but there will be those that don’t develop tge way we hope. Rather than a bomb squad we might need a bomb crèche…

A striker who isn't 400 years old and looking for a last payday? Surely not?

I find it hard to believe we have anything like €3m to spend on a single player unless we make a big sale or two.

Most signings are a gamble and the few that aren't are between £50-£130M. At least with this approach it won't be bleeding the club dry on fees and wages with players at the end of their careers. Scattered with experienced pros in key areas I think this is very much the way forward.

3m does seem a bit high, given he wasn't a first team regular even. Still young though, I know.

Brennan is a good comparable actually. He's risen through the youth ranks too (actually has a couple full caps). Not sure how the croatian league compares. No idea of the strength of the croatian league though.

Edit: good point Rzarecteh, his advanced stats good be pointing to a nice little big player. It's a big discussion point in hockey, when advanced stats suggest one thing but the old boys 'eye test' is what's used to make decisions.

Based on what mate? It is all about wages, the players we are targeted will all have reasonable wages. You can spread the transfer fee over several years, a £3m signing spread over 5 years that's on 10k a week will cost us just over a million quid a year. We have probably saved that x5 on the wages of deadwood getting released.

It’s Friday Otis, they’ll all be in the pub for a liquid lunch, stretching their expense budget to one pint of shandy and half a dozen straws.

There isn’t much pointing of making assessments on players we’re linked too as I doubt any of us will know how good they are, similar to managers Murphy brought in at Barnsley, nobody had heard of them but they were mostly good.

I know it’s hard considering our history in the market but we have to trust the club know what they’re doing.

The obligatory YouTube clips should be banned. Sure he looks half decent but most of the matches look like they were played at Beeston town youth set up...

No problem with the signing by the way-this is clearly one that Murphy has watched for some time so we can't complain the homework hasn't been done assuming he's not going to be upset by the food or weather it hopefully will be a good one
