Id play Yates over Freuler currently, but expect that to change assuming Freulers flatlining performances are him "finding his feet". ball retention is great, but if it's taking you precisely nowhere, I dont get the benefits.

I just find a Yates/Kouyate/Freuler combination to lack anything tangible going forward. The knock on effect up the pitch isnt rocket science.

Dream combo for me is a firing Freuler as the screen, with Mangala & Obrien the slightly more proactive link to the front lads. Yates at the screen doesnt phase me that much though, as long as there is more dynamism alongside him.

We do pass it sideways or backwards way too often even when we do have options ahead of us. No point keeping the ball in your own half and even that doesn't guarantee you're not just going to give it back to the opposition somewhere more dangerous anyway. Best to take the chance and lose it in their half anyway.

I'd rather see him alongside Yates and Mangala. I personally don't think Freuler offers enough currently and we need scrappers in the trenches currently. Those 3 can all get forward as well as protect the back centre backs.
I don't think your wording was meant in the same context, so I'm certainly not having a pop at you - or Yates for that matter - as we'll need fighters to a degree, but I do struggle to buy into the "who I'd want beside me in the trenches" type of rhetoric, because courage on the ball is more important for me. Players who will show for, and take the ball anywhere on the pitch, irrespective of in-play circumstances. That's why players like John McGovern and Scott Gemmill were held in such high esteem by Cloughie despite being on the end of continual criticism from a certain element of the fanbase. Only time will tell if Freuler and O'Brien are able to to display that type courage on a regular basis.

I’d stick with Freuler, Keep yates and bin off kouyate for Mangala as it stands.

Agree with the eventual dream combo though.

My favouroite three with balance would be mangala, obrien and frueller. I expect Frueller to be more advanced out of the three. That is mobility and most crucial of all technique. Yates's strength is running and tackling to me and his height.

I understand the argument of people who want to play yates and thats fair enough. It's just how I see it.

Great second half last night, I think an ice Bath might be in order, love the smiling and laughing at the opposition after been kicked about or the other way round it appears to unnerve them..a bit like the Shining ..."Here's Ryan"

Part of the solution to progressing: Tough, leader, gets stuck in, wins the ball
Part of the problem holding us back: poor skill on the ball and offers nothing creatively

We all love a stat & Im pretty sure Freuler rated higher in the game & his performance was pretty lifeless.

Yates put a shift in & there has to be a Ryan Yates in our current starting line up, particularly with Mangala the next to step up & put his hand down for the next game. Whats heartbreaking is the celebration of absolute mediocrity in a performance where a player runs around alot, spoils, breaks up the game but ultimately produces no moment of quality in the game of any note.

This is where were at as a club & he's the poster boy.

Im happy for the kid, but more a little demoralised with what we're currently having to resort to.

He played well last night. Really out shone Freuler (only knew he was the pitch due to him giving away an unnecessary free kick in the c.80th minute to put the defence under pressure).

Yates is good.

It's all about mid-table...
Think some folks are being pretty disingenuous towards RY. I'm sure it's a mindset thing from the start, but you will have to come around sooner or later,

When/if he does move on to further his career, NFFC better have somebody of the same stature to replace him or we'll be in danger of slipping down divisions.

He's carrying the team at the moment with a good dose of Hendo thrown in.

The amount of "babysitting" he does for his team mates is staggering, covering all the inadequacies all over the team and pitch. There's not many, if any has to do this in the 1st division, because they can rely on their team mates to do their own jobs, whereas we have a bunch of misfits/mercenaries, whom either 'hide' or are simply not good enough.
