Being a sports journalist in Turkey must be the easiest job ever, you literally just make shut up, never get anything correct and make a living somehow.

They'd make good politicians here.

Hopefully just regurgitating the Turkish "journalist" links. Really don't want us to be signing dross like Saiss.
I think he's a good player personally and obviously a big leader too. I was surprised by how good he still was at the World Cup, only real worry for me is the fact we already have a couple of older defenders in the side and we need to be looking at who comes next.

He may have been good a few years ago, but signing an aging defender from the Turkish leagues feels like a bad idea. IMO it'd be bringing in another body for the sake of it like Ayew was, rather than a player we actually need.

I think about the Boly move with this one - while it's not the type I'd want as first choice, as a fall back option I think he'd probably surprise a few with how good he still is. Like Boly has.

The concern for me is the low level of football he has been playing at since leaving Wolves and the fact that we already have a number of centre backs the wrong side of 30. Even if he isn't ready for knackers yard, I don't see what he offers that our current crop of experienced centre backs don't already give us. Just feels like a waste of money and a squad place to me (even more so given that he will be missing at AFCON on top of all that). If we are bringing in another centre back this summer, it needs to be someone younger IMO.

I was just thinking the same - parallels with the Boly signing. Was very underwhelmed signing Boly, really didn't understand the point. Completely proven wrong though, Boly is immense

I had hoped we'd be aiming higher than targetting players to come in & 'do a Boly'.

Especially as we still have Boly.

Agree with most of the above - I hope he isn't anywhere near first choice as I'm sure there's better/younger/more forward thinking options out there.

Imagine if the apparent interest is correct that he'll be done way down the list of options, but as said before, that if he did end up here he's quite probably better than we all think.

I only ever visit this thread in the hope he has finally singed somewhere else.

Nail on the head with the comparisons with Boly. He is clearly still a decent player but we have already got players to do the experienced leader role.

Don't think his remit will be to 'do a Boly' - in you go son, now go and do a Boly...

Just the comparison that probably most of us including myself would be a bit underwhelmed with this signing, until he comes in mid season due to our massive injury list (I really hope we're sorting the physio situation) and we realise that he's actually an excellent player that we've signed for a nominal fee
