The other huge difference is this is a loan, for an 18 year old, who is probably on 500 Euro’s a week.

Maybe we see what he’s like first?
Problem is what if the obligation to buy is triggered by us "seeing what he is like"? Then we have another £10m being wasted.
As we know Forest do not have the best track record when it comes with obligation to buy clauses, I think Woods was to just make the squad 3 times.

Wood’s was all about ensuring the transfer happened after the season ended. It wasn’t a try before you buy scenario.

Yesterday all I read was moaning about what a waste Origi is and that we would like a younger player who can develop.

We look to get someone in and it’s back to moaning that he hasn’t played and it’s a waste.

…any good young striker who is currently playing is either going to cost a fortune or is being courted by the top clubs (just like in the summer when we missed out to Spurs and Chelsea). Add to that there is two days left in the window and we have no money.

Expectations are so f***ing off it’s wild.

Jesus Christ, some people already writing this off as some mendes meddling. Give the lad a chance to play for us before labelling him. Also what actual evidence is there that he's a mendes client?

Or, and this might sound mental... Just... don't sign anybody?

'It is a move that has involved super-agent Jorge Mendes.

Forest see him as a recruit for the future and should everything go according to plan, he will fly to Nottingham soon and undergo a medical ahead of the proposed move.'

He's evidently a client of an agency called PCR, which appears to represent a dozen-or-so players, primarily Portuguese. There's no recorded connection to Jorge Mendez, which quite possibly suggests that there isn't one?

It might even be that Nuno is favourable towards sanctioning this signing?

Edit: I posted this before seeing Erik's post above. I'm minded to stand by my second paragraph though.

Of course it's a favour to Mendes.

We simply don't learn. Either on or off the pitch.

Twatter talk i know, but a number of Benfica fans (who wouldn't be great lovers of Sporting Lisbon) are saying he is easily the most promising player at Sporting.

Given the friendship between Nuno and Mendes, i think its flashbacks to a time when we did not have the luxury or power that we do now that is lending to this "Mendes favours" narrative. Its a completely different ball game now being in the PL and more importantly having Nuno as our manager.

Nottingham's dirty secret
Does not look like anything special from his YouTube highlights. He has barely made any professional appearances, not sure how he comes here and gets mins in the Prem?
£10m option to buy sounds like a LOT. I would rather invest some of that into a hungry talent who is making a name for themselves in the lower leagues in England.
Just seems like we are doing Mendes a favour.
Looks to be skillful on the ball & have a decent pass & finish from the clips I've seen.

This signing is on a totally different level to Origi tbf. Origi has had his day, this kid is still to have his.

These imports are always more of a punt than homegrown talent, as there's no telling how they'll adapt to the British leagues, Joao Carvalho the perfect example, but from the bits and bobs on-line he at least looks well-rounded and pretty good in the air too. So we shouldn't be getting another Dennis hopefully, who's not going to fit into our setup.

A lot of our signings I'm left thinking "WTF?!? where exactly are we coming from here?", but this one I can t least see where it might work should everything fall right and the kid be up to the British leagues. Especially if we're using him in the Champ rather than Prem next year too.

18 year olds that are PL ready are about as rare as a Turner clean sheet. Bringing in players at this age is generally a low risk gamble on their potential combined with your ability to develop them, which is something we need to be doing considering our own youth ranks are pretty dry

If people are expecting him to come and play an important role this season then you're probably going to be disappointed, a loan with an option to buy gives the coaches a few months to work with him and see if he's worth our time or not with barely any financial downsides

Mr B I empathise and feel your pain. We’ve had a shocking few weeks on and off the pitch but there’s light at the end of the tunnel. We’re close to having a full squad to choose from, more winnable fixtures, potential cup run. I think if we can find a reliable keeper in the next 24 hours it could transform our outlook.
