This lad is absolutely mustard. Big part of the last decent team Germany had.

Must be in his mid 50s then
I’ve posted before Edward, Germany don’t have a proper centre forward any more since Mario Gomez hung up his boots. That’s what lets them down.

When he was at Atalanta he was a great player. Now, i think we understand why the Italians talk about being "Gasperini'ed". Any player Gasperini sells from his Atalanta team, they diminish (Kessie aside, can't think of too many that got better after leaving him). Remo Freuler ran their midfield, Gosens was an incredible left wing back, Freuler comes to us and looks average, Gosens the same at Inter. To be fair to Gosens, Di Marco has been fantastic for Inter but just putting out the warning flare here...

Last decent forward you lot had was Gerd Muller Yogurt
Der Bomber was indeed a magnificent centre-forward, and still widely praised for his play.

More modern German sides however, have typically depended on a „proper“ centre forward; Germany won Euro 96 with Karl-Heinz Riedle, for example, and in recent seasons, proper old-school „target men“ have been the focus of the attack of the Nationalelf.

Unfortunately, bar Nico Füllkrug, the production line seems to have dried-up a bit.

As I say, Mario Gomez was the last real centre-forward Germany had (I have met him, he is an absolute gentleman as well as being a lethal penalty-area predator) and he‘s hung up his boots, so until they find a decent striker, Germany‘s chances at major tournaments look a bit slim.

I mean, it is friendlies all the way now until Euro 2024, and they yesterday managed to somehow lose to Columbia, 2-0 at home, a team who before now had never taken anything from a game against Germany.

Hans-Dieter Flick was doing a very good job of keeping „incandescent with rage“ under wraps, after the game. He was not impressed, and with Germany hosting the Euros in less than a year now, they - and he - need to buck their ideas up.

Finding someone who can actually stick the ball in the back of the onion bag would be a good start.

They also lost 1-0 to Poland a few days ago.......a team that managed to follow up that 'impressive' win with a 3-2 loss to Moldova last night

Rummenigge & Litbarski were ok by German standards i suppose, never get a game for major football nation like England though

Interesting they're willing to spend as much on a left back as they sold their star striker for 12 months earlier.

Primarily because of the increase in income, due to their highest-ever league finish, and thus qualification for the Champions League (and the extra money that brings with it).

1. FC Union are a club on the up in Germany.

Meanwhile their city neighbours, Hertha Berlin, are in all sorts of trouble. Relegated last season to the 2. Bundesliga, they are in serious financial trouble, and there was even doubt at one point whether they would be granted the necessary license to play in the 2. BuLi next season due to the state of their books.
