Iz a Taffy, forgive him.Sad to learn of his death.
I remember him preparing to take a corner-kick when he noticed a frog beside the ball.
He did no more than stamp on it before taking the kick.
Decent player whilst he was here. In fact, I remember seeing Ronnie have a terrific game for us when he replaced the injured Ian Storey Moore when we last beat Liverpool at Anfield. RIP.R.I.P. Ronnie.
Just 9 goals - seemed like far more…
I’m surprised at such a low total - I remember one season ( possibly our relegation season) when we had 3 joint top scorers with 7 goals each - Ronnie, Dave Hilley and Barry Lyons.R.I.P. Ronnie.

Definitely not our relegation season (71/72),Virgo-Hilley had left by then.I’m surprised at such a low total - I remember one season ( possibly our relegation season) when we had 3 joint top scorers with 7 goals each - Ronnie, Dave Hilley and Barry Lyons.
It might just be my poor memory though . It was a long time ago
I knew you’d knowDefinitely not our relegation season (71/72),Virgo-Hilley had left by then.
I think you are referring to 69/70-although Ian Storey-Moore topped our scoring chart before
injury. You rightly say that Rees,Hilley and Lyons were amongst the goals that season.
I’ve just had a quick look at Ian Storey-Moore’s goalscoring record at Forest.I knew you’d know
Having thought about it a bit more - did Ian Moore score 11 (?) in his injury season, and were the 3 I mentioned joint runners up with 7?I’ve just had a quick look at Ian Storey-Moore’s goalscoring record at Forest.
He was top league scorer every season from 66/67 until 71/72 (with the exception of 67/68-
when Joe Baker topped our charts).
Even in our great season of 66/67 he outscored ‘King Joe’ by 5 league goals.
A fabulous player who seemed to keep us in the 1st Division single-handedly for a while when
the slump really set in from 1969.
If you purchase a copy of "Give it to Moore - He will Score!" it has all his exploits and goalscoring records , plus it is really well written and the 2 authors spent a long time with the man himself. Thoroughly recommended!Having thought about it a bit more - did Ian Moore score 11 (?) in his injury season, and were the 3 I mentioned joint runners up with 7?
I’ve just got some distant memory of those three players scoring 7 each .
God, I’m getting old!

We quote Ian talking about that Coventry game. Basically, he should never have played, but I bet the young Cloughie1975 was very glad he did!A pretty good attempt,Virgo!
ISM did score 11 league goals that season.
Rees and Hilley both scored 8 with Lyons on 5 (plus 2 cup goals).
Interestingly,Henry Newton found the net 7 times that season.
Talking of ISM-he also got injured the previous year (68/69) but came back to score a vital goal
at Coventry late in the season as we drew 1-1 and finished 18th in the table and stayed up.
As a 10 year old desperately trying to find the score from Highfield Road,I remember buying
a ‘Football Post’ and seeing the headline ‘Ian answers the call’.
Great childhood memories!
Re childhood memories and the Football post - I remember if we had dawdled a bit up Arkwright Street, or had a bit of a wait at the chippy we could sometimes get an early copy of the FP at Mount Street bus station for us to peruse on the way home on the bus.A pretty good attempt,Virgo!

ISM, Robbo and Birtles? Why, thank you! That means a lot.
While I’m here, a reminder that Ian will be signing copies in the club megastore ahead of the Villa game on Sunday and I understand messrs Robertson and Birtles will be there. It’s from 10 until 12, at the club’s insistence, so apologies if that’s a bit early for some.
