RIP Nigel Doughty

Me too, not apt.

Tributes from the fans, the club, and the players are very apt, though.

i wasnt referring to you directly with the "faux grief", i have no idea about your opinions of doughty before his sad demise. he may have been one of the more influential figures at the club in the last 12 years, but considering that the last 12 years have been some of the worst many modern age forest fans have experienced, thats not really something to shout about.

Yes, he saved us from admin and put a lot of money into the club, as well as being very dignified and trying to put the nottingham back into nottingham forest and he deserves a lot of credit for the that, you are right in saying a lot of people took his money for granted, but if he takes the credit for that, surely he also deserves the blame for the bad things he did whilst at the club? like appointing and sticking by arthur, the repeated failures of the majority of the managers he appointed, not backing the few successful managers at key points in the season, repeated PR disasters ( "We're serious about promotion, are you?", pratley/whittingham fiasco etc. )

Im not trying to flame doughty here, he deserves recognition, i have no problem with people donating to a charity he held dear, but lets just keep things in proportion

Faux grief?

A man has died, a father, son, and husband. In times like this Nottingham Forest really isnt that important. I have been a big fan of ND's publicly on here, ive also recently slated him for a some bad decisions (like many others). Jesus, ive made some terrible decisions in my life, but im still a good person, and I think this is why people are so upset because his heart was always in the right place. People are grieving for the work the man has done at our club and all the good things he has done in the community.

I agree though, naming the ground is a bit much, but there should be some sort of permanant memorial at the ground and / or the acadamy.

Also regarding names on shirts, I hope / think that players will be wearing t-shirts with Doughty's name to show their own support for the man who pays their wages. Hopefully when we score & win everyone can see these tributes

Yup just stick with naming the academy after him. Works for me, most see it as the most logical.

Nice touch from QPR.... Really glad the football community have come out in such force to show their support.... Really goes to show what respect he held in the game....

I think a good tribute would be if the team changed their sponsor for one match to a charity he supported, like Childline, and wore that instead of Victor Chandler.

One would hope Victor Chandler would be in favour.

If the match is featured, the change in sponsor would be explained by commentators, drawing attention to the charity.

Good lord, Do we really need these off the wall ideas for showing respect to Doughty? Let us all remember him in our own way rather than these wacky ideas....

Each idea put forward is getting more and more extreme, Just let people grieve...

Just got back from the ground, took my Dad down to put a scarf down for him. Owners never get the praise or the gratitude and Nigel must have only done what he did for the pure unselfish love of NFFC. Only just realised there was a book of condolences open as well.

Despite his mistakes we were lucky to have been owned by a fan rather than a far eastern billionaire laundering with questionable motives.

Wow. just reading the Evening Post article about some of the generosity that Nigel exhibited away from football - funding an endoscopy centre at Newark hospital, investing £3m in a Centre of Corporate Responsibility at Cranfield University.

Because of his media-shy nature, these weren't things that were much discussed, but his generosity was clearly as big as the man himself.

Saw this on the local news last. His mum was a nurse there apparently. A very generous and thoughtful man.

Many of these things were covered in the news at the time - certainly I knew of his support of Childline and funding at Newark Hospital - that said, it was the local media so those further afield or who (with some justification) don't absorb our local media quite so much might not have spotted it.

its only just dawning on me just how much he did. whilst i wont back down from my footballing views of decisions he made, i wish id have know about this before his passing so i could have at least give him more credit for it

Unquestionably a very generous man and as Butterball has said that he didn't know about his various acts of genourosity. But that will be down to his own wishes for not taking credit.
A credit to Nottingham and a credit to humanity.
Nigel Doughty RIP.

#SWFC players will wear black armbands tonight as a tribute to late #NFFC chairman Nigel Doughty

Seems odd, doesn't it? Would Forest wear them when Ken Bates dies?!
