A sad day for English football as another 1966 hero is subbed-off.

RIP George.

That day in 1966 is one of the few days in my life I know exactly where I was and what I was doing.

One of the team that was not often remarked about, but who did a sterling job for the team.

Thoughts are with his family. I'm roughly the same age as George, so I reckon he had a good innings, but his family will be hurting like heck.

Try A Little Tenderness
I saw him play for Fulham against us a few times during the '60s, when he always stood out as a good player in a struggling side.

It should also be acknowledged that he had some tough competition for his World Cup place in '66, notably from Jimmy Armfield and Keith Newton, but his strong, steady performances clearly demonstrated that Sir Alf made the right decision. RIP George.

Senior Mass Debater
His family left the tribe but even so, Baruch dayan ha'emet George, and also RIP.
