Premiership Vs Championship

Personally I think that watching us beat Liverpool is better than watching us beat Rotherham.

Losing 4-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday is worse for me than losing 3-0 away to Manchester United.

Elite sport is about testing yourself against the best; that’s what we’re doing for the first time in a generation and not without success.

Accepting survival in the top league in world sport is a massive improvement on being in the Championship, whether you get to win games against the likes of Rotherham or not.
@Eddie Yates has being saying as much for years ⬆️😉, in fact I’d go a step further and say he’s one of a select few who has always championed the Premier League……

Yeah, but you can see where its going, can’t you?

You might be in a situation in a few years, where - because of the overbalanced wealth in the Premier League - the PL wants to turn itself into a closed shop, with no relegation, like in American Sports (as that is their „model“ here) and to justify that, they‘ll use the excuse that the teams coming up from the Championship are rubbish, get murdered every week then get relegated.

This 100% ⬆️ sooner or later I can see 15 or so super wealthy clubs who’ll just bludgeon their way to safety each season …..the other 5 teams will scratch around for two places …. Then the American type model will be pushed for sadly 😕

Irs funny, since promotion including all summer the example I gave people when discussing premier league results was "I'd rather watch us lose 5-0 to man City than lose 1-0 at blackpool"

Then we drew Blackpool in the cup

Then we didn't lose 1-0...we got hammered 4-1 lol

You'd think that result would remind people that we're much better off where we are now, rather than seeing some "lesser" players lose to a crap championship team

Last season was great, but so many seasons in the Championship were utterly turgid.

I'd rather watch us get beat 10-0 by an "elite" side than ever watch us play route-one wankfest football like we did under Cotterill, McLeish, Hughton etc, and I really hated watching us against Man City, Arsenal and Man Utd this season, hated it.
This is the truth, in 20 season tickets I've had,
02-03 Paul Harts po semi final
06-07 L1 Semi Final
07-08 Promotion from L1
09-10 Billy's 1st Semi (fantastic season)
10-11 Billy's 2nd Semi
19-20 Sabris almost year
21-22 Cooper Magic.

6 seasons of marginal joy, the rest were mid table or relegation threatened or relegated.

The only reason the championship is better is, the fans of other clubs actually understand football unlike 99% of Premier League fans as they've never been to a football match but think they're experts, and Sky doesn't move every game so you can plan for 75% of the season well in advance.

Perhaps, but they’d be shooting themselves in the foot.

Part of the attraction at the moment is that nearly every game matters for one reason or another. Without that they lose atmosphere, crowds, sponsors, TV and MONEY.

American football has roughly one team per state. So it’s more like watching England than a club side within our one state.

Not to say it won’t happen, but there are cons even for the elite.

That’s the thing. There were some good days out: for example City in the cup, Radi at Charlton, 3-0 at Palace, and all the Derby wins; but overall it was shite apart from the second half of last season.

Never again please!

Yeah beating Arsenal twice was good fun too

Yes it's painful but preferable watching Forest get spanked compared to watching Forest eeek out a living in the championship ..and I'm saying that even though I can't get a ticket this season..

Fingers crossed I'll be able to get season tickets when the new stand is finally built..but even then a 38 40k stadium still may not cut it..that's the difference between the leagues really. Forest could speculate with a new mega stadium but have Wisley decided to scale up . Instead I have to watch every game through "authorised channels" lol

One thing which has shocked me is just how divided the Prem is with it's own inner divisions.

The gap between bottom 8 and top 8 has always been something we've all been aware of, but flippingheck it really is like a whole other set of divisions inside itself.
United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool... they have near enough two full teams of international players and they can cherry pick off the other clubs as well. We've spent £150m but those teams are spending that on just 2-3 players. Teams just behind like West Ham, Wolves, Leicester have spent quite a lot trying to compete for those Europa spaces but a few ineffective buys and it can go very wrong.

Yeah beating Arsenal twice was good fun too

Not as enjoyable as beating the good teams in the league.

Beating Liverpool was far more enjoyable than both Arsenal games and the Man City win. The latter were wins against teams who weren't taking us seriously, the former was something that said: "I'm here."

Yeah, exactly mate. For us to stay relevant at this level, we really have to make every signing count, and even then ride our luck a bit. As you say, a few duds and it can all go south.
