Premier League 11 point watch 2023-4 season

So, a thread to track when clubs manage to catch up with the epic achievements of a certain club last time they were in the PL.

Thread gets bumped when a team gets more than 11 points this season (Equalling doesn't count).

For example
Date: 2/9/23
Team: Man City
Played: 4
Points: 12

We are already half way there.

Brighton, Spurs and WH can get through with a win in the next game

There's enough shit teams at the bottom that will share points between themselves.

Expect at least two clubs not to hit 30 points and then another two barely over it.

If only one of Luton, Sheff Utd, Everton or Burnley were in the league then I'd worry about the 11pts.

Agreed. I think Luton and Sheffield United are two of the weakest teams on paper to have come up in a long time, and Everton and Burnley look massively shit as well. But like you say, with multiple shit teams rather than one de facto whipping boy (like Derby were) that'll probably ensure they'll all make it to at least the 12 point mark.

Could see one or two not managing to crack 20 points though.

I know I post about people I went to university with rather a lot on here, almost to the point of a meme

But! I was at Trent with a lad by the name of Matt Edison and needless to say we sang his name to the tune of Bad Medicine by Bon Jovi

That’s a good point, I never thought of it like that.

To get an 11 pointer basically you need one really really shit team, you can’t have a couple.

Luton are my major Concern. Sheffield United look to have just enough about them to get 11 points (10 now), Everton will scrape by, Wolves looked decent and terrible will be fine, Burnley hard to tell so far they've had a hard start.

So what you are saying is the league was stronger when Kenny Miller was banging them in for fun in 08?

Yes and no, IMO

Logically the situation Maxi shows makes sense in the sense that when there are two shite teams then they will get points off each other.

Of course, when they do play each other, one of them has to pick up points, and 11 points isn't many, which means there's a strong chance that the teams will split the points either by a draw (1 each) or splitting the wins (3 each) which is some way to get 11 without even considering games vs the other sides.

In the sense of this season we have Sheff Utd, Luton, Everton who are expected to struggle along with Burnley who looked stronger last season but are perhaps too open for the PL. You wouldn't expect one of them to literally pick up nothing against the others which is what you'd need.

But there is the possibility you could get it with 2 shit teams when they draw with each other.

In that sense it would be interesting to see how results against the other relegated teams has gone over the season.

Of course that season Derby beat Newcastle and didn't pick up many draws either which probably didn't help.

Because so many of the promoted teams go straight back down then that's how you need to look at the relative strengths really. It's quite rare all 3 stay up, even the odds are stacked against 1 or 2, and even those who do often struggle in the 2nd season. I think Leeds were in their 3rd season last time and Southampton/Leics were established in the PL for many years and that's largely unheard of, when Everton do eventually go then it will be similar to Coventry and Wimbledon doing the same a few years back. They have been in the top flight for many years before it was the PL, I think it's just them, Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs who have been in the PL every year and most of them have long D1 records before then.

So basically a promoted side has to punch above their weight and probably win the play offs, against the squad strength and the odds, then do little to improve the squad after promotion and get whipped every week. The first part was us, but we saw that we needed new players. The whole thing was basically the reason for that 11 point season (and they did improve by adding to the squad but the additions weren't largely PL standard).

It's unlikely to be broken because even the serial yo yo sides like Norwich, West Brom, etc are going to realise they need more strength to stay up and do the last mile on hope but are basically solid enough to get some points when they go up.

So are the current bottom sides, who might shock a few especially Luton at home, and will probably all end up mid-20s points wise.

it might, but I still don't think it will be broken
It's a lot of fun when it takes a while for 11 point day to come around.

The sheepies get all hopeful and then see it all fall apart.

But it's also fun when it's wrapped up by christmas to remind them how amazingly shit they were.

It's just a beautiful thing.
