I'm sure Greater Manchester Police have better things to do than track down and arrest a kid for stealing a football only to de-arrest him when Citeh have their ball back. I understand the ball had more value than any old football but surely this could have been handled a bit more tactfully by the club.

Thoughts?

It is their property no matter how insignificant.

According to my mate who supports City the lad was arrested and carted off from his place of work. Well over the top by the club in my opinion and a total waste of Police time.

Well at least the young lad in question (17) won't have his potential future blighted by a criminal record for something that can be simply ascribed to youthful exuberance.

If he's been de-arrested, it will be because the club don't want to take things further, so that is something, at least.

Still broke the law though, the misery that City fans have been through to get to this stage I think the least they deserve is a football between them!

What law? there's no law against running on to a football pitch.

It's apparently possible to construe entering the field of play as trespass, which is what random pitch invaders are usually charged with?

True although i'm sure his employer wasn't exactly chuffed when the police turned up and carted him off. Like you say it's youthful exuberance at worst and I think it's a really pathetic move by City. Just shows how ludicrous and out of touch football has got.

Stealing. He stole a football.

Well apart from the stealing, what crime did he really commit..

So if I step on to the pitch while my son is playing in a match (he plays in an FA affiliated league) I'm breaking the law?

I'd say Congo is the man to answer these questions. You could be sent from the premises by the referee if he felt you were causing a nuisance. I don't think steppiong on the pitch during a kids game is quite the same as at a professional game. You can get a banning order for doing so in certain circumstances at professional football I think so it must be an offence.

Firstly, the lad was 17 so I wouldn't say he has been through much misery following the club during his years (plus his support of the club probably started when the new owners came in anyway). Secondly, was he going to share it with all the other fans or keep it at home for himself?

Metro Report it better

http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/oddbal...ear-old-boy-takes-premier-league-winning-ball

In the end the Premier League champions got their ball back and can now put it on display at the Etihad, along with the numerous other ones used during the game...

That's what I think of whenever its reported that a player 'takes home the matchball' ...... no he took the matchball that happened to be in play when the whistle was blown for full time

Although at Forest im sure they try and use the same ball all game? Or am i wrong there? Apart from against Portsmouth where they kept stealing the ball so we had to keep playing with new ones??

He should have knifed the ball

Surely part of the magic of football is that a kid can grab such a thing and make some money from it years down the line? It's kinda like Citeh giving back to the community without even trying :dunno:

Alas, it shows to what depths some aspects of the game has sunk. If the ball was worth that much to Citeh they should have given the kid 1% of 1 players wage for it.

f***ing lowlife c*nts.
