Player Similarities

Was discussing Guy Moussi with the chap I sit next to at matchday's. We were on the subject of Guy Moussi and what "sort" of player was he?

My fellow ST holder friend argued he was an (incredibly) poor man's Yaya Toure. I was leaning more towards a John Obi Mikel type. Both play the same position but have different attributes.

Now, Moussi is far inferior to any of those regardless of what "type" of player he actually is but I raised this with my mates in the pub afterwards and we discussed all players and who they are similar to in the footballing world.

I came up with the following....

Jara - Rafael
Ward - Per Mertesacker
Cohen - (May get a ribbing for this) Steven Gerrard
McGugan - Adel Taarabt
Blackstock - Bobby Zamora
Henderson - Andy Carroll

I used to say Joe Garner was a poor man's Wayne Rooney, thought he had that petulant streak in him but could do something others couldn't

Bit of a pointless but fun thread, just fancied seeing other views...

Moussi is more a poor-man's Claude Makalele; Yaya is a more forward-thinking player.

I've always thought Cox was a bit like Rooney due to his drive and work rate. Sharp reminds me a bit of RVP due to his finishing ability.

Cox is a poor man's Rooney I guess, I can't stand Wayne Rooney though.

I said to a mate a week or so back that Moose reminded me of Yaya. If he had a run in the side, he would regain his first touch, positional sense etc. He has potential but not really this season now.

Moose - Fellaini
Pep - Vieira
Stan Collymore - Ronaldo (Luis)
Matt Derbyshire - Barry Norman

Incidentally, I was looking at a list of players of the year and saw that SVC never won this accolade... who was better than him at the time? Dave Phillips won it in 94...

I was making this comparison in the pub on Saturday evening. Uncanny.

Cox - Rooney is a good one. Similar type players who are both capable of scoring stunning goals.
