McGugan.

We've done a lot better in the games he's been fit for.

I was going to say the same thing - our hopes of survival really do rest on the naive but precociously gifted shoulders of Lews McGugan, I feel. He hasn't been our best player, but when he has featured he has offered the team so much more. We'll feel his absence in the next three matches.

For unexpected ability though, I'd have to say Perchy. I've always been a fan of Perch, but I'm still surprised. Other names deserving of a mention; Chris Cohen, Garath McCleary and even Ian Breckin. The one-year contract isn't looking quite so ridiculous now.

Ooh, so many contenders........

I would have to say Earnie, just because because of his pre-injury goals. When he was out, we really noticed it!

In terms of overall contribution to the season so far, we're talking Cohen, with an honourable mention to Perch.

As has been said, McGugan is a key factor in our best performances. When he came back in against QPR he looked like the only player that didn't have the stench of defeat soaked into them. If he is fit for the majority of the season then we'll stay up.

Cohen from day one but has dropped of a little recently, only recently though. Perch and Breckin have both been unsung heroes, while Lee Camp will now be drawing all the plaudits.

But McCleary for me has been the most improved. I doubted his ability at the start of the season and even though there still areas that are very raw, he's looking like a real player.

How has Cohen dropped off?

He was excellent at Crystal Palace last Tuesday night. He won every ball and saved Chambers' bacon on more than one occassion, tracking back and turning into a right back.

I'd go with him, too.

Last two games, though, Breckin has easily been our best player.

Just not as influential as he has been is what I meant. I've found myself applauding his efforts on numerous occasions thie season but have done fewer recently is all I meant.

Its captain marvel, Ian 'the brick' Breckin and when i say that, i say it like im announcing him as they do boxers in boxing matches, I think the stadium announcer should also do this, to whip us all into a pre-kick off frenzy!

I'd go for Cohen, with mentions for Perch, Earnie and McCleary...still plenty of time for others to get their name in the frame though, others have shown plenty of potential.

Player of the first 3 months has to be Perch or Cohen simply because no one has stayed in the team as long as they have in order to have a chance.

I would say Perch. Cohen has been immense but I think there have been occassions where he has been found out on a bad day quite clearly but only because he has been the only creative spark in the side for long spells.

i dont agree cohen's been the player of the season. I think he wastes possession a lot, he might run himself into the ground, but he needs to start doing more productively, scoring more goals, creating more chances, and improving his first touch. His tackling is so-so. I would like to see him doing a lot more what he did v palace, it was from his abll through that we got the second goal.

I'm not sure if anyone has been 'player of the season' so far.

I think Perchy has been the best so far, Wes has played well most of the time, But if its the last couple of games, then Breckin has been by far the best player on the pitch, especially noted for his game against Derby in my opinion :)
