Our transfer dealings this summer

Have been pretty excellent, lets have a look:

Outgoings:

Britt Assombalonga - 15 million (approx. 2 mil going to P'boro) - noone wants to lose your top striker/arguably best player, but we held out for his release clause, got his wages off the books and have used his fee wisely
Fryatt/Pinillos/Stojkovic/Perquis - 0 - Injury Prone and/or not good enough, taking up wages, bar pinillos werent going to play, hopefully Lica is going to join them

Incomings:

Jason Cummings - 1 million - young and hungry Striker/Wide player, the only signing we havent seen too much of, but has done well in limited showings
Barry McKay - 525k - Absolute steal, replaced the hole in the squad selling Burke made
Darryl Murphy - 2 mil - I think most of us were dubious, but he has settled in well, scoring some crucial goals and displaying his worth to the team even when not scoring with his hold up and build up play
Tendayi Darikwa - 2 mil - Another surprising signing, given Lichaj won POTS, but as an attacking FB, has demonstrated why Warbs decided to bring him in, very quick and decent in his defensive duties
Andreas Bouchalakis - Free - A very fine present our new owner gave us, has settled in well and shown both a fine eye for goal and for a good pass, pace is his only real defecit
Keiron Dowell - Loan - Everton have themselves a gem of a player here, silky on the ball and i dont think we've seen the best of him yet
Liam Bridcutt -- 1 mil (barring a last minute ****h) - replacing Cohen and Vaughan long term for 1 million pounds combined is astounding business

So we've used about half of the money we've had from Britt to bring in 6 new starters (one albeit only here for 1 year in all likelyhood) and a young player filling up a squad place, with maybe some more to spend on a new keeper, that is how to go about Squad Building.

Disappointed we lost Pinillos still, but understand why he was let go. Not convinced about Murphy (lack of sell on options basically) and Cummings (lack of quality on first viewings) either.

If this Bridcutt deal goes through then it's been our best transfer window for at least a decade. I just hope and pray that we have owners who can see past a few bad results, which there are bound to be, and stand by their manager. If they can do that then we're golden.

Since we've been out of the top flight I would say Pearce's summer is the only one that can come close & it's not even near but his recruitment of Britt certainly helped now.

It's remarkable we still in the green even with possibly more wages and having to pay off Stojkovic and Perquis.

The relatively low fees is what stands out the most. Time will tell but it looks like a good clutch of excellent value for money signings.

Cummings was signed for much less than £1 million according to Warburton. He hasn't had much of a chance to impress as of yet, but I'm sure he'll come good eventually.

Still early days yet and I'm sure players like McKay will have fluctuations in form, and the likes of Murphy will hit dry spells - that's just football.

But there's no doubt that for what we've sold, what we've re-invested, and what profit we've made it's been superb.

I just hope that Marinakis keeps entrusting & backing Warbs & McP so they can keep doing it. It's an approach that will eventually turn us into a Prem outfit as you can't keep making money & bringing in players that improve the squad without inevitably getting better.

Probably the most key element will be only selling players when it suits Warbs + McP, and when they have potentially better or as good replacements lined up. Not just selling players coz they're worth a lot or there's a half decent offer, like Marthur used to.

I think Warburton, McParland and to a certain extent Weir are like a transfer acquisition panel but one that actually makes signings and on the face of it bloody good ones at that.

Yeah the players still have to do the talking on the pitch but just sitting back and looking at the finances and the potential. Nothing can touch it.

Platt, Hart, Kinnear, Megson, Calderwood, Davies, McClaren, O'Driscoll, Davies, Pearce, Freedman, Montanier, Doughty, Arthur, Pleat, Al Hasawi, Jarman etc

Well done Marinakis, Vrentzos, McParland, Warburton, Weir

Assuming the Bridcutt deals goes ahead just fine, this has been an absolutely superb transfer window. The midfield options in particular now look lightyears ahead of last season's shambles.

I'd still like to see us bring in a left back, but otherwise I'm delighted with how this summer has panned out. Warburton and McParland have done a truly outstanding job.

You're right of course, it's far too early to call but there's more potential in the group of players we've acquired this summer than any other for a long time. Whether they end up fulfilling that potential is another matter but you can't sign players in hindsight can you.

To be honest it's just nice to have a transfer policy that makes sense, rather than the scattergun approach we had under Fawaz, and at times it has to be said, Doughty.

First impressions indicate that they haven't signed a single dud so far. Noice. Sourcing Dowell as a potential loanee was truly inspired - I doubt that he was on many radars.

Perhaps the more spectacular aspect of this summer's transfer business for you is precisely the fact that most newcomers are starters or, at least, starting material. Six new starters is a major restructuring.

In terms of money and management, I would expect some sort of explanation of the financial status of the club after the end of the transfer window.

If you can get 2 good seasons out of Murphy it doesn't matter if you can sell him on or not... Birmingham have just signed Sam Gallagher on loan for a reported 2mil for the season.

Just because Birmingham have been silly doesn't mean we can as well.

It's only money well spent if we get promoted with him playing. Players like McKay, Darikwa, Bouchy - even if we don't go up we can profit on them if we need to raise some capital. We can't with Murphy.
