Rome wasn’t built in a day, but I wasn’t on that job.

Don’t be confused, don’t be in any doubt, this is the greatest ever Storytime with Uncle Congo!

It was on a dreary night of April and Dr. Marinakistein paused to behold the accomplishment of his toils. With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, he collected his thoughts and called to mind the knowledge of ownership that had worked in the past, that he might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless club that lay all around him.

It was already one in the morning; the rain pattered dismally against the panes of his penthouse, and his scented candles had nearly burnt out, when, by the glimmer of the half-extinguished light, he saw the dull red eye of his manager open; it breathed hard, and a convulsive motion agitated its limbs.

How could he describe his emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care he had endeavoured to form? The squad had been assembled with balance and the manager who now kneeled before him presided over players selected to be able to play the game beautifully. Beautifully! Great God! The new contract scarcely covered the cracks in the squad and the injuries that had beset them; the International and Premier League experience was countless but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with the dismal football that seemed more akin to a relegation haunted team that must desperately grind out results.

For a moment, Marinakistein saw just how ugly a squad could become when the temptation to make further changes resulted in a hotch-potch that was somehow less than the sum of it’s parts, but that was a fleeting moment and he knew he would now have to change something else.

Right, that’s enough of that nonsense, Leeds would write a better story anyway.

The last game before the international break saw an ill-disciplined Wolves side grab a point and Daniel Podence break the world record for expectorate velocity by hoiking a loogie so quick it couldn’t even be caught on camera.

And now, it’s time once again for the moment you’ve all been waiting for – it’s Congo’s Match FACTS! A recurring series which hasn't run nearly as long as one over on the Leeds United Forum.

Leeds are the longest standing club in the football league, being founded before the birth of Jesus Christ. They have spent their entire existence in the Premier League, as the only member before it was even founded.

Leeds United’s club nickname is “The Absolute and Undisputed greatest of all Time” in honour of the fact that nobody has ever done anything better than them. FACT.

Leeds United’s home ground is Elland Road, the oldest known football stadium, which currently has the largest capacity of any stadium anywhere in the world, with comfiest seats and best views.

Leeds United traditionally play in all white. A nod to their immaculate conception as footballing gods.

Leeds United have won more trophies, titles and even games than any other club. Ever.

Leeds Untied are owned by God himself – who simultaneously invests more money in the club than any other owner whilst also running the club better than any other owner.

Leeds United’s mascot is ‘Kop Kat’, a snow leopard that was named by the fans in a 2005 competition. Thankfully this was long before the relatively recent convention of polls getting flooded with joke entries, as Katty McKatface would simply be unbecoming of the greatest mascot ever invented.

Obviously, they would be the greatest beer ever invented. It is stronger and tastier than any other beer ever invented. Lasts longer and is both a stronger percentage than any other beer but at the same time doesn’t get you drunk.

Must not lose

Think we've gone beyond that point now. If we only draw we need 3 more wins still and only really have Southampton at home as a game you think obvious three points. We'd still need six points from Brighton at home, Palace away, Chelsea away, Man Utd at home....

Play to win.

Navas
Aurier? Felipe Niakhate Lodi
Freuler
Mangala Danilo
MGW
Johnson Awoniyi
Would also be tempted with Mangala holding that midfield with Kouyate and Yates ahead if they're available.

Harsh on Toff who was excellent vs Wolves but... no room for sentiment at the moment, we just need points.

Honestly, I'm not sure Maxi. Ultimately, we just have to keep in the fight. A draw is less than ideal but it would keep us alive and no more vulnerable than Leeds, Wolves etc.

Same team that started on Saturday.

Thought that vs Everton Ray: Not a bad result, keeps us in the fight, but means needing to win a game in which we're not favourites (or even close to being favourites).

We've ran out of room to accept draws now in these types of games after the Wolves result. We're 4 points worse off than we should have been and so need to make those up in the slightly-tougher-but-still-winnable-games like tomorrow, unless folk are comfortable needing to win games vs Man Utd or Chelsea away. Personally I'm not, I'd rather we went for the win here, even if it meant we lost the game.

Agreed, but I'm trying to take a less severe viewpoint. If we pick up a point today and a point away at Villa then all is not lost.. a win would be fantastic and put us right in the mix but a draw and I'll hold judgment for a few weeks longer, at least.

For the record, I do actually think we will drop. I think us and Soton could be down before Palace. Still.. we have to believe!

Doesn’t appear to be on the tellybox sadly, despite the original fixture being scheduled for coverage.

A draw would be acceptable but if we could sneak a win…

We need a couple of surprise results. Would be nice if it's Leeds away but I don't think it absolutely has to be. Definitely need to avoid defeat though. First clean sheet since we last played Leeds would do me, even if we didn't score.

They absolutely threw the Arsenal game and rested players with this in mind. They are going to chuck everything at us. If we hold out and frustrate them, Elland Road is one of those places that can get toxic and turn on their own players very fast.

I expect us to approach the same way as West Ham, but of course without the short implosion. Hopefully the regular full backs are fit. I assume Lodi will be.

Leeds buzz about so we need a midfield that moves about, too. So the group from Saturday would do nicely, not the Shelvey inspired traffic cones.

Our front three move well, also, so I think we're covered in that department. The defence is beginning to knit better since old Boly departed the ranks (I mean, it was poor after that, not that his going was a good thing), so the team is beginning to pick up again.

Will some of the injured reappear for this, strengthening the ranks even more? I hope so, I'm sure we have the nucleus of a decent bunch in the squad if they can all manage to appear at the same time.

More unexpected points here, the crystal ball tells me.

Draw would put us on 28 points. Fixtures remaining would be (home in bold):

Villa
Man Utd
Liverpool

Brighton
Brentford
Southampton

Chelsea
Arsenal
Palace

I've grouped into three lots of three because I think they represent where your points are coming from. The first group of three we'll be lucky to get 1pt from all three. That would put us on 29 points with 6 games left, and almost certainly put is in the bottom three going into those final six games.

From there, at very minimum we're going to need 35 points to stay up, so from those remaining six it means winning two. It's the group of three where I think we can realistically get our points needed: Southampton the obvious one, Brighton probably the next obvious one - not exactly a banker though. Even if you manage that, it might not be enough, you'd still probably want another couple of draws to take you to 37 to be sure of it so you're talking having to hold Brentford and then go into the last day of the season against Palace potentially needing to get a point to avoid the drop.

Win vs Leeds means we only need a single win vs either Brentford, Brighton or Palance (assuming we beat Soton) and therefore potentially avoids needing a result on the last day entirely also. It also keeps us out of the relegation zone entering the final 6 games of season.

I know there's still 9 games after tomorrow night, but you've got to be realistic with potential wins and where they might come from. We've played 28 games this season and won 6. We're not going to beat Man Utd and Arsenal and if we end up relying on those results we will go down.

They're a poor mans Newcastle, but still move it around more than quick enough to give us all the shit we can handle. We've got enough to trouble them offensively with MGW & Johnson, defensively, I aint convinced we're sharp enough. I knew Podence would give us trouble, so expect players like Summerville & Harrison to do exactly the same. To, that end, this feels like a step too far for Danillo & Freuler.

Navas
Williams Felipe Niakhete Lodi
Yates Mangala Kouyate
Johnson MGW Taiwo

Yates situation becomes key here for me, his spoiling ability is the key to any kind of result.

Play like we did on Saturday and we have a great chance.

Play like we've done 99% of the time outside of Nottingham and we're f**ked.

I'd probably take a point.

After seeing us play well in the weekend and only losing 2 points due to a lucky deflection being g well shot, I really believe we are finally going to get those desired 3 away points against Leeds.

It won't be easy by any means but I think we will come out on top after a hard fought match. Ok, I should say that is if we don't put Shelvey back in for this one.

We’re 100% good enough to go to Leeds and win we just have to go at them like we did Wolves.

If we set up scared like we usually do away then they’ll turn us over, they seem to be taking more chances than previously as well which doesn’t help us.

Navas kept us in the game at the WFCG, if we gift them the same opportunity’s it’s gonna be a long old evening.

It’s another opportunity for points.

Energy, focus, accurate passing and use of subs are key for me. On Saturday we kept a good shape, closed down in numbers, and countered well.
BUT
we need to take our chances.

Our support is also essential - we must back the team LOUDLY

I‘m looking forward to it.

Since Gracia too over, Leeds have adopted a certain style, and that is to come at you hard and fast from the KO and to try and get an early goal.

We must be prepared for that. They move the ball quickly but their defence is suspect at times.

This could be a war of attrition, or a breathless 3-3!!

Most not lose obviously but have to target a win.

Need to be clinical in front of goal and need to score 2 at least. Keeping a clean sheet isn't going to happen away from home.

I think if Cooper goes back to Shelvey for 'experience' and we put in the same limp, gutless away performance we've seen all season then he's gone. Time for the players to step up and show some spine.

Don't know why but I have a feeling this could be an epic game.

Traditional fixture
Old ground
Good atmosphere under the lights
Both teams shit at defending
Both teams targeting the game as must win

Can see it being a goal-fest but unfortunately, despite the improved performance on Saturday, I just don't have confidence in us away from home of winning.

3-2

Not disheartened after the weekend, we played about as good as I've seen this season.
Play again like we did and we should be able to put this to bed.
I'd take a draw, but we desperately need 3pts either tomorrow or Saturday.
