Anyone taking the train to Liverpool will find themselves going through the Williamson Tunnel as they approach the terminus at Lime Street. The Tunnel is hewn out of a Sandstone Escarpment that was pushed up by the Bowland Glacia that shaped the geology of the Mersey basin.

I'm not sure if that happened before or since Forest last won at Anfield* in the league.

Local trains coming through the tunnel typically stop at Edge Hill Station on the way in. But back in time, this was the terminal station for the first intercity line in the UK between Liverpool and Manchester and powered by Stephenson's Rocket Locomotive - when at full power, the steam was said to smell of vinegar and is thought of as the origin of the phrase 'vinegar strokes'. I only raise this fact as "getting off at Edge Hill" is a scouse euphemism for pulling out before climax - something especially pertinent for the Catholic residents of the city. While some Forest fans have metaphorically pulled out already, I'm of the opinion there's still something to play for.

A Loss here is the most probable outcome. Cooper should use it as a pseudo-friendly to prepare for the last 5 games, although the atmosphere between rival fans will be more than hostile.

Liverpool are having a shit season based on their expectations. That does offer a chink of weakness in their armour. Can Cooper find a way to take anything from this game? No one expected we'd beat them at the City Ground yet we did. So maybe there could be some magic here?

* It was 1969, by the way.

Liverpool 2-0 Nottingham Forest

I think we will have a massive 2 shots on target though so an improvement from yesterday.

Not every Scouser is a car thief.
Some are much worse than that.
I think that there is more chance of Liverpool fans being found innocent of Heysel and Hillsborough than forest winning there.
Oh wait... that gives a great chance of taking all 3 points, overhauling Direby's tragic away goals scored record, and putting us right back in the Premier League survivors Club.

More minutes for Awoniyi and McKenna on Sunday, Aurier or Yates back?

Drop the back 5. Go 4 at the back, Neco’s done well recently and Lodi is back. Extra Mangala in Mid, alongside Danilo and Yates/Other.

Same front three, drop MGW deeper or we could also play Lingard, Awoniyi and Brennan.

We need to switch up play style a little, Johnson’s pace is known now.

All that will come together for a 0-1 win!

Hopefully big games for Neco and Awoniyi in the "here's what you could have won" mode.

Toughest test remaining? Has the Arsenal game been cancelled? With the right team we could do these again but without Yates and Kouyate it will be difficult. Also depends on which Liverpool turns up. If it's the team who destroyed United, then we'd be better of just forfeiting the game without turning up.

I think you are underestimating the conquering of Mount Brentford, Mount Brighton, Mount Arsenal, and Mount Chelsea.
And I don't think Mount southampton will be an easy climb either.
Yes,there are no easy games in football,Captain (especially when you are out of form and low on
confidence)-I remember runs in the Championship when we didn’t win and hardly scored for months (Paul
Hart and Steve Cotterill would probably testify to that).

It would be nice to score a goal away from home. To give the travelling fans something to cheer about. I don't expect a win, so a goal for them to cheer is the most we can hope for.

In other news, my get up and go has almost gone. This is such a long season and it hasn't been that much fun.

Do you mean something like the 5-1 hammering the last time we visited Anfield,VP?
I agree that the fun has been sucked out of this season as it’s become increasingly obvious that we can’t
compete at this level of football anymore (the reasons which have been debated on this forum until the
cows come home).

4-0.

Amount of possession: 25% maximum
Shots on goal: 1
Shots on target: 0

It'll be painful watching us chase shadows for 90 minutes and not lay a glove on them.

I'll certainly be skipping this one. The weather is great down in the South West at the moment and I'd rather take my daughter down the beach or to the park than make another excuse on a Saturday afternoon why Dad has to stare angrily at his laptop for a few hours.

Last time we won at Anfield. Even longer than their (now league) winless run at the city ground.

That game was at the City ground. We won 1-0.

According to 11 v 11, the last time we won at Anfield in the league was 15 Feb 1969. We did of course beat them in the League Cup on 22 March 1978.
And in the European Cup, which the whining f***ers have never gotten over.

2-0!

I’m going to this one, first trip to Anfield since a Weds night match in 88. Quite a memorable and eventful trip that was - not for the football we got hammered.
Although we had competed very well with the same opposition in a high quality FA Cup semi-final a few days earlier.
