Currently. Nobody has truly tried to do anything differently.

Clubs like us are now in a similar place to Leeds, Saints, Leicester, Norwich, WBA, QPR, and a whole list of other dross Championship teams who got a little too big for their station and through a few hundred million investments should have them competing with the top 6. It's ill-thought-through and will have us back in the same place as the above-mentioned teams.

We'd have survived with Steve, but I feel our real problems are much deeper in the recruitment / strategic areas of the club.

I think the main issue is lack of depth in the coaching department.

Recruitment I feel is generally good, albeit there’s a bit too much of it.

I asked my Work colleague who's a Home and away Wolves Supporter his opinion on Nuno and he's just sent me this.

Seems i'm happier than most with Nuno coming in. Obviously gutted how it's ended with Coops, but this is a solid appointment in my opinion and I look forward to seeing what he does with the players. A fresh slate for a lot of them.

I really don't get all of this negativity about Nuno

Cooper did brilliant things for us - but his time was up. The results and statistics don't lie. We are lucky there are 3 really poor teams in the Premier league this year - and even that is no guarantee that we would stay up by keeping on the same path.

Nuno averages 1.5 points per game in the premier league - that is 55+ points per season. Wolves finished 7th and qualified form Europe twice - this is the upgrade/next step that everyone on here has been banging on about since we luckily scraped our survival at the end of last season.

Stop f***ing moaning and get behind the team and new manager on Saturday - I know I will.

In fairness I wanted Cooper but I did think Hughton was fecked over by recruitment. So maybe there is a lesson there for todays situation as well.

Yeah, I thought that squad was doomed, it was awful and some of the teams we put out in the early weeks of that season were quite poor. I think Spence and Lowe coming in on deadline day was a bit of a gamechanger even under Hughton, they had an immediate effect in that Cardiff game.

But no debating Cooper still got levels and levels above out of those players than Hughton did.

I agree he looks like a solid choice. Time will tell.

It’s a fair point

Imagine we’d managed to get a decent goalkeeper. I think we’d have about 6 more points.
The small margins are everywhere aren’t they.

Beat Burnley and Luton at home and pick up one more point away somewhere like West Ham and we’re sat in 13th or something looking set to spring on. Its those early season home games results that have now amplified the current situ

I kind of agree with you, don't think he had a great set up and will benefit from walking into to crystal palace who will already have that set up and also think we will benefit from what nuno brings with him.

I think we would have needed to part ways eventually this or next season but I think trying to change the way we played lead to the poor results and forced a premature split

Good solid appointment and realistically probably as good as we could have got (despite some seeming to think we are a massive attraction).

He deserves to be given a chance but he needs to hit the ground running. It's not unreasonable for expectations to be a comfortable mid table finish this season with a top 10 next season, with a more possession based, attack minded football, as that's the criteria many, including it seems the owner, were judging Cooper on. So whilst he gets that chance he is definitely not going to be immune from criticism, probably fairly early in his tenure if things don't start well I'd imagine.

He's helped by having only a few games before he can bring in much needed replacements, the biggest issue being a main striker, I see from reports that he struggled at Wolves when his main man got injured, so obviously he's got a huge challenge in that regard unless Awonyi gets fit quickly, or the new guy flies from day one.

Good luck Nuno, you have a difficult job on your hands.

Yep. Madness. Same with all the claims of “failed recruitment”. A lot of these players have only played a handful of games, some have hardly played at all.

Though I’m not super optimistic about the goalkeeping situation.
