You keep stating what he was brought in to do and not do. As if you're In The Know.

You don't have a clue. Certainly no more than the rest of us do. He may have been brought in because the owner decided the other guy was taking us down. But then that wouldn't suit your narrative.

The constant barrage of Cooper at risk of being sacked because we're underperforming leaked media stories and the 'The best is yet to come' stuff after beating Man Utd doesn't make any sense if the target was to simply battle to avoid relegation.

I'm sorry but I'm not the one with the narrative here. There's an awful lot of goalposts being changed by those who wanted the previous guy out and who after that Man Utd were very loud about progressing to mid table. Deep down I think you all know this even if you won't admit it.

Thing is, I do agree Nuno has been hamstrung by poor refereeing decisions and the impact of the points deduction, and I also never thought our squad had the quality or depth to get to the levels others expected. I don't deny he's had his challenges, my problem with him is we've gone from a team that can grind out results to a team that are powderpuff. We play nice neat football then give a soft goal away. We should have lost yesterday to a side that have conceded the most goals in PL history. We're only not going down this season because of the three teams below us being the worst bottom three in living memory.

Next year will be harder as the three teams coming up are going to be better than the three going down. We start next season as odds on to be relegated in my opinion so unless we change something: either the playing squad or the manager, then we'll likely go down, and I think the former is unlikely as we probably don't have the money available to do so.

That's it. No narrative, nothing against Nuno he seems nice enough, I just don't think he's capable of getting enough out of the team to push us on enough next season. Just how I see it and would love to be wrong.

He hasn’t been perfect but I’d continue with him, even if we go down.

The main area where we need improvement this summer is behind the scenes:

- Stop the RIDICULOUS levels of player churn. It wastes loads of money and demoralises everyone. We need a couple of key additions - a striker that isn’t injury prone and probably a replacement for
Murillo. But next year’s squad should be 80-90pc made up of this year’s players

- Don’t break PSR

- Keep an excel sheet of how many players are on loan

- Compromise on season ticket prices

- Get a decent set-piece coach - we’re a disgrace at this

- get the CG redevelopment moving

I don't think it's the case that there are fans who are unhappy with Nuno because he's not Steve Cooper, I think its the fact that they haven't seen sufficient improvement in the teams fortunes since Cooper left. Even without the points deduction, we've been in a precarious position for the majority of the season.

I've been unsure on Nuno for a while, however I think we should stick with him*. There are an awful lot of issues at the club that have made this season difficult for any manager:
  • An over-bloated squad
  • A scatter gun approach to recruitment
  • Breaching FFP
  • AFCON disruption
  • Horrific VAR decisions
This is just a quick fire list, I could delve deeper into some of the 'off' field issues.

I think the owner and some fans need to have realistic expectations of what we should be aiming for. Everybody has been banging on about this season being horrific and whilst it has been challenging, in the context of supporting forest in the 21st Century, it's likely to be our second best finish in 24 years.

Given the turmoil of this season, I just want us to build on the existing squad that we've got, accept that Murillo might go, hopefully keep MGW and just strengthen where necessary. Let's be sensible with our spending and aim for 13th/14th place, then build on from that. Let's see what Nuno can do when managing this team with a bit more calmness behind the scenes.

The problem there is that there are plenty who simply were not polarised, and we're happy for Cooper to get time as they are now for Nuno to do the same.

Liking Cooper and liking Nuno are not mutually exclusive, and what the club does isn't on the back of forum posters.

As for should have lost, well lol.

I wouldn't mind Nuno having more time if I thought we were progressing under him. I don't think we are and so therefore I'm apathetic about his future. It has nothing to do with Steve Cooper.

As for should have lost:
[Brentfordfanmode]
They had higher xG than us [/Brentfordfanmode] and should have put the game to bed before HT finished. Archer scores his two gilt edge chances and we go into the break at 3-1 down and probably don't recover from it.

You can't resort to being a Brentford fan, that's low.

(And fair enough on the first point, I just get tired of fans bearing the brunt of the club's decisions)

If Archer gets his, Wood should get his two and we go in 3-3!

I think we require a bit of stability going in to next season, so letting Nuno start a season from scratch and see what happens would be wise. I think a number of individual players---Neco, Danilo, Murillo being prime examples---have progressed well under Nuno. Aina has shone, Wood has suddenly turned into a good player (bearing in mind his recent profligacy is a normal part of strikers blowing hot and cold) and obtaining Sels was an excellent idea. I think a few are at a crossroads. MGW is up and down like a yo yo and he may end up being coveted by clubs higher up the table, and the money offered may be impossible to turn down. Elanga is a pace merchant but I am uncertain the rest of his game is up to snuff. Dominguez has waned in recent months. Awoniyi is perpetually crocked, but has also been coveted by plenty of sides. I think a few will leave this summer. Certainly the Greek keeper (what's his name again?) , probably Worrall and maybe MGW and Awoniyi. WE certainly won't be buying many, but if Nuno can add the right couple of pieces we should be able to move up to a lower mid table side. Though that is where we were hoping to be this season. The struggle will continue, I suppose. And I, for one, am glad we will continue to struggle in the top flight.

Let's not rewrite history.

He was brought in to get us towards midtable. Absolutely no one was talking about 30 points and avoiding relegation by the skin of our teeth when he came in.
I thought he was brought in to stop us sleepwalking into the relegation zone?

Has Nuno set the world alight? No. But there are more mitigating circumstances than you can shake a stick at. He's essentially had 2 hands tied behind his back. He hasn't been given a chance really.

If we're still in the Premier League and around Christmas time we're still having this conversation then perhaps then a change needs to be made but for me he at least needs a pre-season and transfer window. He also needs to assess his full squad, there will be quite a few players that are contracted to the club that Nuno has never seen.

Popular opinion among the pundits is that Nuno got the starting formation wrong; failed to hook Montiel on 30 minutes; delayed changing the shape and personnel too long.
Doing all that wrong, it is amazing his team actually won the game!

Don't think that's unreasonable.

Montiel perhaps could have been hooked at half time, would have been justified, and the subtle change in central midfield shape at half time was welcome but delay in changing it almost cost us the game had Sheff Utd taken the chances they created by being able to play straight through central areas.

We won the game precisely because of that latter change. It completely changed the match from one of a end to end ding dong to one that Forest controlled at their pace.

Hooking Montiel would have been tough, so early, imho. He won't be back next year and we can focus on finding another right back to play behind Neco. Montiel has been a huge disappointment, without a doubt.

Pretty much agree with all of this.

Some of the Cooper outers have seemingly reset their expectations with regards to what is now deemed acceptable for this team - if the owner has also done the same then I think this can only be a good thing for the long term future of the club.

So often we hear the refrain that the manager hasn't had a transfer window to pick his own team. Give Nuno the July window, then give him 10/15 games to see if it's better.

Then sack him.

It all depends whose available this summer for me, no love lost if we sack Nuno, but it has to be an improvement or at least with a direction/style of play to suit the players.

My only fear with sacking Nuno is we end up going for someone that's a name and nothing more.

I think it’s pretty simple really, if after being backed in summer (we all know the club will spend a fortune again) we’re still fannying around at the arse end of the table around Christmas he will be sacked just like Cooper.

He’s shown more than enough during his career to suggest that after a pre season we will improve and push up the table, we may even get a few decisions from the refs who knows.

I don't think its that simple. I think with 2 or 3 players only signed he will have have what he needs to have us seriously competing in the league.

A complete circus with players coming in from all directions will make his job harder and could derail that.
