Nuno Albertino Varela Tavares

Nuno's having a good look at folk as you'd expect - as well giving Tavares time (assume that's to decide whether he wants to activate that deal before the windows end) he's done four different CB partnerships in six games and even managed to have a quick look at McKenna.

I'm not sure Tavares will have done as much as we'd like to activate that deal - I think he'll go to OM.

I think he'll have one last chance to prove himself in the cup on Friday, then we'll send him back (unless he plays an absolute blinder). I assume he wouldn't be eligible to play against Arsenal on the 30th anyway.

I think he'll go too though wouldn't be against a stay if the coaching staff think they can develop his game - he's come in rusty, is still young and probably has more to his game than I expected: whipped in a couple of quality dead balls along with the rest of his contribution and is decent in the air.

Given it looks like we'll be playing in a four we may well look elsewhere - I'm still not convinced Toffolo is the answer moving forward, though would be happy with him as backup until we can make the call on Richards.

Would be interesting to see what kind of fee is involved with OM - if it's our buy clause it may well be worth keeping him on, seeing how much we can get out of him safe in the knowledge there will likely be interest from France given his positive run there.

Tldr might be worth a punt assuming we could recoup a decent percentage of his agreed fee if it doesn't work out.

Toffolo must be wondering what he has to do here to convince managers he doesn't need replacing. Started last season well and then Lodi takes his place. Started this season well and now both Aina and Tavares have started in front of him.

Personally I don't rate Tavares. Think he's a weak link defensively and doesn't contribute enough going forward to compensate. Might be better as a wing back in a five but if we're not going to play that then I'd be sending him back and having Montiel and Williams as RB options and Aina and Toffolo as LB ones. Don't need anyone else then.

Hadn't realised how little Toffs had featured since the Brighton game - expect that's more to do with wanting to run the rule on the other options (ie before AFCON for Aina and before Jan 31st for Nuno), though I suppose we'll know more about plans for him once the window has shut.

(To hang my own hat he's backup at best for me, though I accept he's has a decent impact this year in his minutes.)

In an ideal world Toffolo is also a backup for me, but with our current options then I think he should be ahead of Tavares and at least competing for first choice with Aina if not ahead of him.

I think he probably is, it's just that Nuno is having a good look before making his mind up on Tavares.

Imagine being good enough to pick the ball up from your defence, surge past two or three players and carry the ball thirty yards but not good enough to then pass it to a team mate or trap a five yard pass.

Get rid. We’ve spent a lot time and wages on full backs in the last two seasons and our best fullbacks are still two free transfers and Toffolo.

I've seen it.

Wished I hadn't.

This is turning out to be the wildest January in history for this club.

You literally couldn't make it up. Eye bleach required.

Send him back ASAP he's not one of ours.

It was a video posted in 2021 right? https://tribuna.com/en/news/2021-01-28-1611829095/

Still, you'd think a football club would have enough people who would be checking this type of thing before signing someone.

Brian Clough alone used to have the nous to find out about the character of a player before the days where everything was posted on the internet.

Assuming I have seen the same thing, and there's not another part where he's getting them to lick peanut butter off his wanger: it's weird, not something I would let a dog do but is it actually sexually motivated as people seem to be implying?
