Nigel Clough (sponsored by Carlos)

It's all about mid-table...
The closest I want Nigel Clough to get to the managers chair at Forest is when he's in the away dugout.

It would completely break me to see some of the 'experts' on here who are not fit to even clean his shoes as manager, coach or human being dissecting every performance and telling us all what he's doing wrong, supporting the campaign to get rid of him after 4 months and then slating him when he's gone.

Stay away Nigel. Be our number 9 forever, not another failure destroyed by the Forest 'faithful'

I'd love him here ONLY with a sensible level headed owner though (Yes I know there aren't any).

f*** what the idiots think, they don't know what's good for them and never have done, let them keep being brainwashed to the skysports zombieland.

It's a bit of a myth that mate, yes it was defensive and organised at his firefighting jobs, very attack focused when at Burton. The style is adapted to each opponent. Certainly from what I saw personally with 3 up top in most games.

Aye. From what I saw of him at Derby & Sheff U he was attritional, but that said both were holing up & cutting costs at the time, and in a situation like Burton & Stags where owners will actually back him, it wouldn't surprise me to see him play better, more attacking stuff.

Yeah but look how things improved when we sacked Pearce. 3 seasons trying to avoid relegation under Dougie, Monty, Warbs & AK was FAR better than ACTUALLY being relegated in 12th

Well...Billy Davies (Alf flare)...(without even mentioning BC)

Something which I never get, is why folk don't embrace an ex Derby connection. It's often the perfect opportunity for said manager.player to prove a point, as Sir Clough did.

Some of the hype & bollocks which has been spouted on here about managers like McClaren & Monty has been laughable. People really have been brainwashed/conditioned into thinking lower league British managers are rubbish. It's crackers.

I don't think he's a very good manager and we should really be appointing better for where we are. He could have helped and would have been a much better appointment than some though but then, with Fawaz as owner he would have been hamstrung and as Eric points out would have got the same treatment as Pearce.

If you ask Hughton or Clough then I think only those that are blinded by his name and playing career would pick him.

Alternatively, I'd have much rather had him than Cotterill, Freedman, Brolly etc etc.

I expect him to do well at Mansfield and with the right owners could see them being a solid league one side.

If it wasn't for his name or playing career many would have wanted him plenty of times like they have any manager doing a phenomenal job in the league below and then the same league.

I don't see any phenomenal jobs?

I never saw him play and never saw Brian manage, I don't think a name should entitle, nor bar you from any job.
I have immense respect for the family but I don't see anything other than being ok at firefighting. It took 10/11 years to get Burton out the division he joined them in.

For the promotion to league one he wasn't there but does take plaudits for taking over half way through the next promotion season.

He's had a few good cup runs but also been embarrassed by Crawley.

I think it's just best to put it down as both parties were never in the right place at the right time. It may come, he may help us get promotion or fight relegation in the future but at the minute we, in my opinion have a much better, more proven manager.

Where's me hammer?
I think if we ever end up with him as manager it means we've really f**ked it up at some point.

Houghton to Clough Jr is a massive step down that I don't want to see

I don't think Clough would be a good fit for this ownership at all, simply because of how the MON scenario panned out. Clough's too strong minded for them. Hughton's his own man, but Clough is likely to walk like Keane did if he gets restricted as MON + Keane did too.

But there's nowt to say this ownership will be around forever. So if that changes who knows.

I think he's better at lower levels, his approach, while successful, doesn't suit what we need.

At least we can’t get drawn against Peterborough, thanks to them putting in a stinker on Saturday. On current form, I reckon Mrs. C would have had bragging rights.

Thanks to StantonRed for posting in the Hughton thread.........

Really is great to see some local success, and the run of 5 wins on the trot is SO refreshing.

We don't want to see that though.

We want to see clean sheets. That's what wins you games.

Never thought I'd think, let alone admit it but I'm kind of coming around to the idea he might be the bloke we need. Come in like he did at Derby, knock a few down a peg or two, clear the chaff and create a forest side from local, hard working lads. That will only get us so far and he'll be sacked way before he clears the chaff but I think, if Hughton doesn't start to get us at least mid table we're running out of options.

I knew everyone would come around to my way of thinking eventually. Patience is a difficult thing to have when I’m so far ahead of my time.

It's your natural pessimism, I tried holding out for hope, then tried not caring but even the apathy is running out.
