Next seasons midfield

If we do sign the Dutch lad today, it looks like we will be playing two up front. What the hell midfield are we going to play behind? We have:

Reid
Lansbury
Vaughan
Paterson
Abdoun
Mackie
Osborn
Majewski
Cohen?

The first four being your obvious first choices, but Reid hasn't been a winger for a long time and has the most influence on games sat in the middle behind a striker. I don't want to see that narrow diamond again either, it was horrible under Davies.

We will still be drastically lacking pace I that is our midfield plus the two forwards, but we shall see who else he brings in.

Maybe sign another winger with pace to change with Reid when he needs a rest etc, unless Abdoun is going to be the player we all hoped he would be in which case may not need to. Kind of assuming as well if we've signed Fox to be first choice left back with Harding as back up that Cohen will be reverting back to challenge for a place in centre midfield now which gives us extra options in there as well, and assuming he's fit. And with Majewski, Osborn, and if we sign Peltier that gives us enough back up in there too.

Can see Lansbury being the attacking midfielder, with Vaughan being the holding midfielder. I suppose it all depends on who we are playing to see how the rest of the midfield shapes up but Pyscho did play under Cloughie who was loathe to tinker about too much.

We are looking a bit slow. Time to sign a couple of Rumbelows Sprint Challenge contenders.

Will Andy Reid be able to reproduce the form of last season is a big question mark for me. At the age he is and the injuries he suffered at the back end of last season you might not get the same consistency from him and may need to be used more in bursts and then rested for a bit.

One plus is we've got players like Lansbury, Cohen, Paterson, Mackie that can do his running for him.

I wouldn't play Pato and Reid as full blown wingers, I'd have them a bit more infield. Let the wing backs do a lot of overlapping. Those four seem like the obvious choice though

Gto a feeling he'll move Reidy into the QB role that Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard played in the older days, which will be a shame.

No, but would imagine we would sign someone who would displace those four midfielders?

Those four are undroppable when 100% fit, so it's going to be hard. I suppose we really could've done with a rapid striker but hey ho

I like the idea here.

However, I'd be incline to find a replacement for Lichaj, Vaugahn, Lars and Fryatt.

But Darlow, that back 3 with Cohen and Lansbury and Reid have real potential, in my opinion.

I have been advocating a back 3 for quite some time. I like the look of that team. I think it would work well and would suit the personnel we have.

I'd stick with the 4-5-1/4-3-3.

- - - - Vaughan
- -Lansbury - - Reid
Mackie - - - - - Paterson
- - - - - Fryatt

Sign a younger alternative for Vaughan and another wide man.

would think we are going to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation in some shape or form, dont see why this dutch signing indicates otherwise
