New Signings?

add this to another thread if needed.

I was thinking about any potential new signings and realised that aside from Henderson who was here before the end of January, we haven't signed anyone since Boydgate.

Could our reputation be affected due to this? Would players/clubs/ and agents think twice before discussing terms and rejecting other offers only for the medical to throw up unexpected results.

It was weird not signing Boyd, and stranger still trying to agree a loan deal. however where does this leave Forest in terms of trying to attract decent names to join our club?.

What do you think our reputation is like inside the game? from the outside some quarters have tried to make this club look a joke at times, over the top stories eg. credit card declining etc..

Maybe this thread is pointless, as i think we will sign players, just thought about how much Boydgate may have cost us in terms of what we could achieve player wise.

i don't think other would give a f*** about the Boyd incident as our money is as good as anyone elses, we haven't signed anyone since the Boyd incident as the transfer window has been closed.

On the subject Boyd, my optician (and a fellow red) who I've used for the last 20 years or so, informed me during my last visit to him that he knew the optician who discovered GB's degenerative condition. He added that this bloke is one of top eye specialists in the city (his practice is on Friar Lane, near the castle) and had evidently concluded that there was a genuine cause for concern in Boyd's case.

I suspect it's not my optician's place to casually mention such things in a brief discussion about football to a patient, but he did so all the same.

The Boyd fiasco was on the very final day of the January transfer window, and apart from the loan window (in which we signed Jara and extended Ward's contract) there hasn't been a chance to sign anyone as the window has been closed. I'm not quite sure what your point is?

The loan window was open until the end of March. I know we had the full match day allowance, but if it improved the squad we could have looked for a right sided winger.

My point was one of reputation within the game, although there hasn't been much time to sign players on a perm basis, has our reputation been affected?

Sometimes maybe there can be too much info.
If we assume Boyd was worth at least a few points to Hull, then it isn't a stretch to suggest he'd have been worth points to Forest too and it could have been enough for promotion (either automatically or at least through the play-offs; a mere 2 points difference would have cost Hull automatic promotion and put Forest at least into the play-offs anyway).

There wasn't going to be much long-term risk if we took him on loan or didn't pay £10 million for him. His eye sight is currently good enough to play football successfully.

I wouldn't worry too much yet, we always do the same every year then all of a sudden, players come swarming in :)

I don't think so no, like others have said we are a club with a decent amount of money, a rich history and large attendances (for the championship).

I think the lack of signings is more to do with the lack of an Adidas kit (and Fawaz is broke..(ish) )

I heard the GB deal fell through as Fawaz was in talks with BD already and he said he didnt want him!

I heard it from a few people who are not ITK but know people ITK if that makes sense and they never stated if it was one of the ITK people that told them

but it did seem very logical and likely

It's all about mid-table...
We need half a dozen players. Wheels need to start turning.

Agents will always direct their "clients' to where the most money is. This is the reason why our new owners are going to come under close scrutiny imo.

Kenny Burns column in the NEP made interesting reading this morning (about lack of transfer activity).
Things will all fall into place in the next couple of weeks - you'll see.
MacLaren bought Miller, Derbyshire and Greening in a hurry and a look what those 3 delivered in terms of Value fir Money.

This and the fact he'd obviously realised Mcleish was a ginger Scottish twat. Being from the middle east it perhaps took him longer to realise this. ;)

they're taking their time to try and identify signings rather than rushing in like other teams.

How much timing do they need? The season ended well over a month ago. So many good free transfers we could be missing out on because they're taking their time. For the club to increase my season ticket Im really expecting them to justify the rise!!

I think you're right there - maybe you should let everyone know who both of them are so they can avoid someone who doesn't respect patient confidentiality

In Boyd's case, I did wonder what condition could be so acute that it was likely to deteriorate sufficiently over the course of a three year contract to make the signing risky for the club? The fact that Hull then signed him did make me think that the club were looking for an excuse not to go through with it, for whatever reason.
