He only played 7 mins in the Prem this season and got this assist, you could see him taking up these positions for us - like I said earlier, good final ball

Also, 2 assists against Preston getting really far forward - and a clearence off the line in the EFL Cup earlier in the season.

Watching those it almost felt like Fulham were using him wrong as an out-an-out fulback, it might be why we were so happy to spend so much on him as a wing back/winger. He will get more freedom in that position.
This is why I’ve been saying all along that should Spence have been unavailable then this is the guy we need. Identical players really but used differently. I’d probably still prefer Spence because of the recency bias but I wonder whether Williams is a safer acquisition temperament-wise anyway, and I also wonder whether he might have been first choice all along.

He’s going to be perfect for us. I did wonder whether Mr Biancone might have been lined up for RWB but now I wouldn’t be surprised if Worrall needs to keep one eye over his shoulder and Biancone could soon be a starter (or Williams’ deputy).

Would this leave Biancone as a backup? Can't see Wozza being dropped for him either.
In a bench of eight field players, you need at least two defenders, two midfielders and three forwards. Biancone allows you to add another forward at the bench, since he can easily cover at least RCB and RB. The first choice on the bench for the defence is certainly not a minor role. He will make many appearances, even if he's not a starter.

Looking at the way both Biancone and Nikathe play i could see them filing in at either lwb / rwb
Gives us amazing flexibility across the backline
There might also be times when we're closing out a lead we might drop to a flat back four with it looking a bit like: Biancone-Worrall-McKenna-Niakhate, with the 'full backs' sat really narrow.

How many subs this season? I have an idea we are going to need or at least can use quite a number, so a large roster will be essential to allow fluid interchanging in course of a game.

To be short of the necessary will mean that we will struggle to alter the shape of the team if others make wholesale changes to their tactics.

5 from 9.

I think we should assume that everyone we play would be utilising all 5, and we should be looking to do so as well.

We’ve had that here for a bit and I suddenly became aware how quickly I lost count how many subs had been used.

3 to 5 doesn’t sound a lot but it’s frankly a bit annoying.

Yeah I think the same. And when you look at it right now, assuming we sign Neco and fill 1 CM and CAM spot, we have attacking bench options of:

Surridge, Lolley, Cafu, Mighten, Taylor, Silva, Ojeda...

Outside of Sam, not sure any of these impact a game or would fill me with any confidence.

We certainly have 2 more starters to get in midfield, but not a fair few depth pieces needed.

Realistically we want a bench of: Hennessy, Cook, NEW LB, Biancone, Colback, NEW CM/CAM, NEW LW (versatile attacker), Surridge, NEW ST

Not aimed at you in isolation Trents but I don’t know why fans worry themselves about this kind of thing. It’s a long season and everyone will have game time. If Biancone is better than Worrall he will play, if not he won’t. Same with everyone puzzling over McKenna and Niakhate. The key is having options
