My Forest Story

Mr RayReardon

Jack Burkitt
Has anyone been watching the series on the OS? It seems to be the one of the only PR activities the club are doing well at the moment. I've seen all of them to date, but just watched the Steve Hodge episode, absolutely fantastic.

Hodge speaks really well about some tough times in the 80s including Hillsborough and the Anderlecht saga in 84. Really interesting, heart felt and littered footage of Cloughie's second great team. Being too young to experience the European triumphs the late 80's team was my first exposure to Forest. Great players, great memories and really well narrated by Hodge. Always been impressed with him commentating, nice to hear his story for the reds when playing and supporting Nottingham Forest really meant something.

Can't watch anything on the OS, because there's an unstoppable advert video playlist thing in the top right corner which autoplays sound louder than the video I've gone to the site to watch, whilst leaving the video portion blank, so I can't click it off (which is the bare minimum one should have to do). I have adblock installed and have tried blocking the specific element but that just removes the visual part and the audio keeps playing, so while I'd love to watch the 'my forest story' stuff I simply can't, due to the contempt Forest once again display towards their fans in the online realm. Even disabling all my plugins doesn't solve the problem.

The only people who have autoplaying videos on their websites are arseholes, it's really that simple.

Can't you just pause it?

Also, if you go direct to the Player site, there's no auto-play video?

The series has been excellent. Although I'd have like to have heard more from past players (pre- Clough, etc) rather than Bennett or Earnshaw, who are a bit recent.

Not seen the videos as I don't have player.

But that was a great era in the clubs history, I was 18 years old in 1989, so to see Forest have a period of success whilst being a young adult going into the world was great. Very happy times for me on the whole :)
The likes of Pearce, Walker, Clough, Hodge and Webb were heroes and it felt like they were one of us, normal blokes you could relate to that shared our loyalty and love for NFFC.

I imagine the older guys feel the same about the Walker and Carey sides, or the late 70's Clough team.
I did catch the back end of the other great team in 1980 but was just a nipper, so didn't really fully appreciate or experience what was going on.

No, as stated, the video portion is blank. and I'm not a Forest Player subscriber because they can't provide a stable commentary stream. I'm not looking for workarounds on this, I'm looking for Forest to stop having autoplay stuff on their websites as if it was something they knocked up on geocities in 1998.

Re: the above two posts:

Yes, here is the Hodge one on that channel (I haven't watched yet, but did like the Clough/Stone/Sutton etc ones):

I subscribed too, and the Birmingham game highlights have at least delayed any idea to cancel as yet as the team put together enough for a nice highlights package (3 goals is always going to help though)! Carayol seems to be dividing opinion, but he seems elusive enough to open things up if players around him are ready to be played in to me. Nice assist from Bendtner.

I'm not sure what's happening here as I normally bring past players/teams into present Forest discussion and now I'm doing the opposite. But yeah it's not perfect Forest Player, but with the interviews with Philippe etc too it's worth the subscription at the moment.

I'm having a listen to that now though, and maybe I should get over my possibly weird aversion to having two left footers in central midfield (like Vaughan and Cohen!) since I'm reminded how Hodge was in there with Bowyer at the start of his career! Both were ok enough with their right at times though I think.

I can't remember if I've seen his diving header vs Anderlecht now. Can't see the home leg goals on Youtube though. I think I'd have seen them on Central News or something as a young lad at least. But he says it's the best goal of his career so maybe it could have gone on Francis's thread or the video I made.

When you listen to footballers talk about old games, you realise what useless crap you fill your head with.

I'm listening to Steve Hodge talk about Brian Stein playing for Luton in 89 final and thinking both Steins left Luton after the 88 final. He talks about Webb being in the dressing room when Keane arrived, does correct himself, but still. Says before the 91 cup final Forest beat Notts County in a friendly - we lost 2-1. This a ex professional sportsman talking about his successful career and these minor details are irrelevant to him. Yet football fans who just sit and watch other people playing a game store all this useless trivia in the head for life instead of using the space for something at least somewhat useful that could help you get on in life.

Loved the quote from Ian Woan about making his debut off the bench at Norwich. Said he had to find a phone box call home and say 'Dad, just got twenty minutes!' as it wouldn't have been on TV or national radio, no internet.

Twenty-five years on, not only would his Dad have known and probably watched it, the entire fanbase would have assessed his twenty minutes and hailed him as the new Robertson or have written him off completely on social media.

Are they still doing these stories this season? Don't bother with Forest Player anymore but haven't seen a new one for while on youtube.

One of the best 'My Forest Stories' is Steve Hodge

I was enjoying listening to his views. Loved him as a player. But he has real intelligence.

Seeing as we going down the Nigel route and if it comes off we could do a lot worse than Hodge and Chetts in his backroom staff.

They strong enough to know that the fans will have to carry on with the Fawaz Out Campaign but knows what the club means to everyone and will make sure the players as well prepared as possible with the Garibaldi Red Shirt on.

I had lost my passion but in some weird way I have got it back through the will to want Fawaz Out and the drive by Stan Collymore etc

Currently watching 'Steve Sutton' 'My Forest Story' One of our best ever goalkeepers. Certainly feel he is slightly under-rated in the talk for 2nd greatest keeper.

But how much do they care about those times ? The passion and enthusiasm is what makes you get goosebumps watching it.

Love how Sutts knew he had 199 league appearances and was disappointed he didn't get 200. :D Take that for a stat known by a footballer.

Love the comment that Bassett has aged like a fine milk.

Also how Pierre used to moan the grass was too short or too long and the ground was too hard and he would then have to manage that and tell Micky Adams to take him away for some free-kick training and tell him about all the great free-kicks he scored for Coventry and Pierre was like who was Coventry. Good times.
