you know what u are getting with carayol

direct pace and inconsistent delivery.

Sounds like most wingers at this level.

Also think its more difficult to achieve successful delivery here because of the lack of size & numbers in the box. Warburtons style isn't reliant on crosses in, so with the set up not conducive, I wouldn't hang him based on that.

Frustratingly ended up in central midfield for about half the minutes he was on the pitch yesterday.

You want him on the flanks where there's space to run into. He doesn't need to be any more intelligent than that, just stay wide, get the ball and drive at goal.

Maxi, there was a discernible difference in our intent when Carayol came on. He got almost our first shot away within 2 mins of coming on.

The shouts for him to start will only get louder.

Our two starting wide men were dreadful.

Yes - he almost scored, after cutting in from the flank. When he positioned himself in central midfield he rendered himself useless. This is the sort of game smarts I'm talking about that Carayol lacks. He's good for a different option but he can't play in a side which has to think.

And agree, the other wide men didn't play particularly well, although McKay did cushion a lovely first time ball for Murphy for our best chance of the first half.

You could move McKay to the right and bring Carayol into the side but then you're very much changing the whole balance of the side. Full backs would no longer provide the width and we'd be playing a much quick transition from defence to attack. Not saying it's a bad thing, but it's a very different approach than what MW has wanted us to do so far this season. People don't realise it's not a case of one in, one out and carry on as you were. Different players give you different dynamics.

I don't disagree but surely the aim is to get comfortable playing a certain way this season so that it's second nature next season, allowing any new players we bring in to gel quickly?

It's going to be a Vellios thing with Carayol - Warburton isn't going to listen to loud noises demanding for him to start because it's just not the way he wants us to play.

Warburton & Weir prefer to work with players still learning the game. It allows them to get their philosophy and ideas across to players they like to fit their system.

Very much like Pocchetino.

Unfortunately Carayol isn't the type he likes to start games because he is what he is as a player that doesn't suit their overall wants for the team & what they trying to make second nature.

Lately MC has been very good off the bench and fair play to him for that.

The idea of Carayol is better than the reality of Carayol. We talk about him as this speedy winger who torments defenders, but he has rarely done that in a red shirt for whatever reason. Perhaps the injuries have taken their toll, his confidence is gone, lack of game time means he can't get into his stride or there's something else.

Shame as we have glimpsed what he is capable of in brief spells and if he could channel that for more than brief patches he could be a huge asset.

As a bench player great, as a starter didn't look arsed.

That's probably why Karanka let us have him for free in the first place.

A player forever in the shadow of a 20-year old boy, who played like it too.

Didn't Karanka terminate his contract at Boro prior to him coming here too? Clearly he isn't a fan. No big loss.

He played a large part in the good results when Warburton first came in. Destroyed Gunter. I wish him well.

Never took to him. Just something about him.
It wasn’t his lack of quality that followed all the pacy build up. I loved Frank Carr and he was the king of that.
Close the door on the way out please Muzzy.

Carayol had pace, could take his man on, but lacked end product. His defensive contribution was minima.

A poor mans Ryan Mendes.

If it sends a message to the other lazy Gits that if you can't be arsed we'd rather pay you than have you turn up for work, then it's a yes from me.......

Even when signing a new deal he looks like he doesn't give a shit; which pretty much sums him up as a footballer from what I saw.
