Away from the comings and goings of the present. ( well goings ) and to those of us lucky enough to go to both finals which do you rate the highest munich or madrid. For me munich by a mile

I was only 1 and then 2 so didn't go, but from what I've seen of the games Forest played much better in 79 in Munich. Albeit Malmo weren't as much of a challenge as Hamburg, and it's been said Forest were a bit disappointed in some ways not to score more and put on an even better show (more akin to their best performances over the previous couple of years in England, or some of the results earlier in the competition).

Forest's side in Madrid was missing some players though and Robertson's goal was still a great moment I'm sure!

I went to both and Munich was the better day by a mile. I broke my leg in Munich but it was still a fantastic time.

I was a poor student at the time up in Billyland so couldn't afford to go, particularly as it was around exam time.

I still have my reminder of the Munich final though -

I wonder how many are still around and if they are worth much.

I went to Munich as a ten-year old but missed Madrid due to chicken pox, so Munich all the way for me!

Munich because we beat the scouse in the first round who were at the time holders and had dominated english football for years.
I can remember the draw for the first round and my dad and i were praying to avoid Liverpool. Low and behold first round first leg at the City ground best atmosphere not only in the game but the week leading up to it also has for me never been matched. Beat them easily and knew Forest were going on to something special. The scouse were dumbstruck by the way.

Madrid. Unbelievably diciplined performance. Those who slag off Gary Birtles want hanging up by the testicles. The most selfless, non-stop effort from ANY Forest player I've ever witnessed. I was on the edge of my step (not seated) for the whole game. We outnumbered the German fans who met us in the street afterwards. We thought there would be a ruck as they had spent the later part of the second half burning their flags and banners. They just greeted us and congratulated us for our win. I think about 10,000 Reds went that day.

Munich was good too. Great weather. Got to say that the Germans couldn't have treated us better - got bought loads of drinks while we were there and were even given a lift to our campsite after the game by a girl on her own. She crammed 5 of us into her Beetle.

Only managed to get to Munich final which was a fantastic experience but the result against Hamburg was the better performance in my opinion.

Munich was a better city and the opposition were not so great . In Madrid we were kinds underdogs with a star studded Hamburg team thinking they would walk it after Trevor Francis got injured. both great experiences which Ive written about on this site

Madrid because of the effort and performance. Also largely because my Grandad had convinced me we'd not win after watching Hamburg destroy Madrid in the second leg of the semi (bearing in mind they went into that match 2-0 down).

When you look at it nowadays you can see why it is such a difficult trophy to win.

We played 9 matches to win it in 1980. Last year it was 13 required to win it - presuming you qualified and didn't have to play 6 qualifying matches (3 x 2).

For those that remember, its also perhaps interesting to note that the team we played in the Quarter Finals, Dynamo Berlin, have had a major change in fortunes since those days. So we're not the only ones.

They were impacted by the reunification of Germany and if you ever think we're having a rough time then spare them a thought.

They now play in the FIFTH tier of German football and finished 13th in it last season. How times change eh?

I went to the home game against Dynamo Berlin and John McGovern signed my program in the car park afterwards.

(Interesting random fact of the day!)

They were certainly impacted by the German reunification, and the emphasis on having one Berlin team in the Bundesliga (that being Hertha SC) didn't help them either.

The iconic moment of all my years supporting forest came in munich. Not when we,d won but at the start when john mac led the team out. Standing with all the forest fans thinking we,re forest and we,re going to play in the european cup final. Expected waking up in the middle of a dream and our next match being luton or oldham in the old second division

I was on a school trip to Munich last week and I twice passed the Olympic Stadium on the way to the pool.

Magic stadium felt so special passing by knowing what had gone on there.

How did you break the leg Donny?

We were near the ground at an open air bar and Forest fans and Malmo fans were dancing on a table. I was leaning on one end, the table collapsed and trapped my foot. I still went to the game, despite first aid staff saying I need the hospital. I was given a seat in another area, when Francis Scored I jumped up and next thing I rememember was waking up in Munchen Krankenhausen ( hospital). I was in my Forest top when the Doctor told me we had won the European Cup and all the waiting room cheered as they thought I was a player. I got back to my coach just as it was about to leave ( fortunately it was run by my Brother in Law and Sister a Silverdale coach) I wasnt in much pain as I was well oiled all day. It was a fantastic time and I had some great treatment with my broken leg on the ferry etc, missed the second half but I still have a tape of the game with my Sister being informed on the loud speaker about me.

Went to both, but Munich will always be the greatest because it was the first. Not just the football either; the celebrations afterwards in a bierkeller on Marianplatz will never be forgotten - was anyone else there? What a night!

We arrived on the bus in munich early afteroon and made our way to the beerkellers. Met by a sea of red and white. Seemed like nottingham had moved for the day. After the match we had to go straight back to buses to travel overnight to make our ferry departure. However our driver announced in the morning he,d managed to get a later ferry and took us to eindhoven. We met a load of p s v fans great lads who challenged us to a drinking contest. Poor lads must still have a hangover. We left them in a coma. Great memories
